Description

From boulevard cruising to track bruising, it's hard to find a better all-around performance car than the Corvette Z06. 505 horsepower, a slick six speed manual transmission, huge tires, huge brakes and a stiff chassis combine to make a weapon of unequalled power for the price. This one owner, 10,550 mile 2008 Corvette Z06 packs unbelievable track capabilities in a comfortable and luxurious car that can be driven every day.

Most cars have performance options but it's just not the same as a car that has been tailor made for all out speed and cornering. Tethered to a tidy 106 inch wheelbase, the Corvette's low weight composite body gives the car a killer, crouched look while allowing for excellent performance. At the front of the car a cold air intake feeds the massive 7.0 liter V8 engine. Air splitters along the front fascia and fenders create much needed downforce while functional air extractors behind the front wheels allow heat to escape the engine bay. Radiused carbon fiber front fenders and fender wells house 275/35/18 Goodyear EMT radials on 18 inch chrome wheels improving aerodynamics while offsetting weight gain from the engine. Widened rear fenders house huge 325/30/19 Goodyear EMT radials on 19 inch chrome wheels and include functional cooling ducts that allow air to pass over the massive rear brakes. A fixed roof makes the car more rigid and helps it achieve almost perfect front to rear weight distribution while it's on the way to an Autobahn recorded top speed of 198 mph. This isn't some pony car that's had a few bolt-ons to make it faster at the strip; this car was built from day one to run with the finest cars on earth.

Assembled in 2008, this 'little red Corvette' features Chevrolets vibrant code 74 Victory Red paint. The smooth composite body and showroom fresh paint is the product of an intensive five stage process at GMs Bowling Green Kentucky assembly plant. The process begins with every panel receiving a conductive primer so it can be electrically charged for paint. Next up, an additional layer of primer is allowed to dry and is then sanded to correct any imperfections in the car's panels. Step three begins with GMs 'water born' base coat application and ends with every panel being dried at 80 degrees. Step four involves each panel receiving a durable clear coat shell. And finally, in step five, the panels are sent to bake in an oven at 250 degrees until the paint is completely dry. The result is a rare factory paint finish that looks good enough to rival the freshly restored cars populating our RK Motors Charlotte showroom floor. From the red 427 emblems on its hood to the center mounted chrome exhaust tips, this car is flawless.

The Z06 is probably the last production car that proves the 'more cubic inches equals more horsepower' rule. Derived from the very successful Corvette C5R racing program, the hand built 7.0 liter (427 cubic inch) LS7 V8 packs an 11.1 compression ratio and 505 SAE certified horsepower into a lightweight small block package. The foundation for these incredible numbers is a brand new aluminum block design with pressed in cylinder liners to accommodate added displacement. Inside the engine you'll find a forged steel crankshaft, forged main bearing caps, 464 gram, light weight titanium connecting rods, cast aluminum flat top pistons and a high lift camshaft. Completing the package is race derived CNC ported aluminum heads with titanium intake valves and sodium filled exhaust valves. Specifically designed for the high air flow demands of the giant 7.0L engine, these heads are very close in design to the heads used on the actual C5R race car. Hydroformed headers send exhaust through close coupled catalytic converters into rear mounted dual chamber vacuum actuated mufflers that sound every bit as fierce as this car performs. A low restriction air intake and a dry sump oil pan, which ensures the engine gets oil even when the car is pulling over 1.0g in the corners, were added to round out the package. Despite being one of the fastest production cars ever made, the LS7 passes all emissions tests, drives like a commuter car, and still pulls down 26 MPG on the highway... I know big block purists will disagree, but I think this 427 is probably the greatest large displacement motor GM has ever produced.

The Team Corvette influence continues underneath where an aluminum body structure houses one piece hydroformed perimeter rails and a carbon composite floor board. The small block 427 is anchored to a light weight magnesium engine cradle and sends power through a light weight high capacity clutch to a rear mounted, radiator cooled TR6060 6-speed manual transmission. New for 2008, that 6-speed transmission puts the power to the ground through a heavy duty limited slip rear end with 3.42 gears. A Delphi four channel four wheel antilock braking system combines with 6 piston, 6 pad brake calipers and massive 14 inch cross drilled rotors up front and 4 piston, 4 pad calipers with 13.5 inch cross drilled rotors in back to bring this car to a very prompt stop. Active Handling traction control featuring a competitive track mode utilizes the cars power steering and upgraded short long arm suspension with larger roll stabilizers, transverse mounted springs and Z06 specific shocks to lap the famed Nurburgring in 7 minutes and 43 seconds. A lot of people think the golden age of automobiles was 40 years ago. But apparently they've never experienced what it's like to pull 1g around a curve while enjoying dual zone climate control and a premium audio system.

And speaking of race-inspired functionality, this Z06 is designed to be a daily drivable high-performance vehicle as comfort and convenience are held to a very high standard. A Bose premium sound system is controlled through steering wheel mounted audio controls and features a cd player, cd changer, MP3 capability and XM satellite radio capability. GM's OnStar provides GPS navigation and remote garage door opening as well as an integrated alarm system with engine immobilization. GM's Heads Up Display projects vital information onto the windshield and includes a track mode with a built in g-meter. Dual zone automatic climate control and two tone power heated leather seats with memory settings help keep you comfortable at the track and one the way home from the track. Additionally, the car features the expected array of basic convenience features: cruise control, auto headlights, intermittent wipers, a trip computer, power windows, power door locks, remote keyless entry, remote trunk release and an adjustable leather wrapped steering wheel. Safety equipment includes power adjustable rearview mirrors with memory settings, and electrochromatic interior rearview mirror, front driver and passenger airbags and side body airbags front and rear.

Documentation for this sale includes the cars original owner's manual, a limited warranty and owner assistance information manual, the cars original OnStar manual and a “Getting to Know Your Corvette” manual.

If I were looking for a new Corvette, this is the one I'd choose. The base Corvette is a great car, but it's just too ordinary. The ZR1, while astounding, just seems over the top and doesn't have quite as much attitude as the Z06 on the track. With limited production, astounding performance, and killer looks, this is the kind of car I would buy, enjoy as often as possible and hang on to for a long time. It'll undoubtedly become a hot collector's item in the not-too-distant future as fuel economy mandates continue to kill and limit production of big displacement engines. Call now!
