Description

One look through our RK Motors Charlotte archives and you'll notice that we sell only the best Cobra replicas and this 2004 Factory Five Mark III is no exception. With only 50 miles on the odometer since its 2009 completion, this car has all the right hardware to turn your knuckles white with excitement. So if you're in the market for a 1965 Cobra and want instant gratification instead of a 2 year build time, step into our showroom and start your love affair.

Professionally finished and painted, this '65 Cobra features code 40 Mercedes Benz Schwarz Black paint and a code 70 GM Torche Red stripe. It may just be me, but I think this glowing red and cold black color combo speaks a little more highly of the cars monstrous performance credentials than a tired old blue and white or red and white paint scheme. The Mark III body is very typical of the excellent work coming from Factory Five Racing these days and features a higher quality gel coat resulting in a smooth and flawless surface. Better panel trimming and design enhancements for better sealing allows the doors, hood and trunk to function without issue despite panel gaps that would rival an original aluminum Cobra. Topping off that slick fuselage is dual chrome roll bars and new glass, including visors and wind wings that are complemented by satin finish metal mirrors. All new lighting, chrome bumperettes, stainless fender gills and a polished fuel cap add detail while ceramic coated side pipes with auger style mufflers provide a classic Cobra sound. The nice thing about Factory Five's Mark III frame is that it allows for wider tires and results in an aggressive stance that an original Cobra can't match. This car wears meaty Nitro radials, size 245/45/17 up front and 315/35/17 in the back that are affixed to graphite gray OE Racing wheels.

If the sinister red on black paint isn't enough to let people know this is a serious performance machine, they can always take a look under the hood. A rebuilt 302 bored .020 over (that's 304 cubic inches if you're keeping score) makes a dyno tested 331hp and 324ft./lb. of torque. The freshly machined block was first equipped with a balanced rotating assembly complete with SRP forged flat top pistons and shot peened connecting rods. Next, a Comp Cams XE274HR camshaft and Air Flow Research 185cc aluminum heads with Comp Cams roller rockers were bolted up. Then an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake topped with a Holley Street Avenger carburetor finished things off. An MSD ignition system complete with both an MSD distributor and MSD coil provides the spark while ceramic headers bolted to the ceramic side pipes provide the neighborhood shaking sound. Accessories include: a new oil pump and Canton 7 quart oil pan complete with windage tray, a new water pump, a new radiator and a powder coated 130 amp alternator. ARP fasteners hold everything together while a traditional Cobra air cleaner and valve covers add some visual appeal to the clean black and aluminum engine bay.

But what good would that awesome motor be without an equally impressive drivetrain? This car already benefits from a modern Factory Five tubular chassis and the massive amount of aftermarket support for its 1987-2004 Mustang components, but things only get better from there. Bolted into that tubular frame is a modern T5 5-speed transmission that sends power to a rebuilt Ford 8.8 inch limited slip rear end with 3.55 gears. Utilizing a 1991 Mustang as its donor car, this Cobra includes a rebuilt Panhard 3 link suspension at the rear. Coil over shocks and new rotors and calipers at every corner make this car as fun in the curves as it is at the strip. And a new manual steering rack combines with tubular front a-arms to provide an authentic and track worthy driving experience. Aesthetically, the underside of the car matches the new and freshly clean look of the engine bay. The gold oil pan and gray transmission housing offer a bit of color to an otherwise monochromatic scheme. And the gloss black tubular frame is accentuated by the aluminum floorpan and stainless suspension hardware.

The Cobra was about simplicity; and nowhere is this more apparent than inside the car. Performance oriented bucket seats with 4 point Simpson safety harnesses ensure that you'll be locked into place when experiencing the 1g of force Factory Five cars have been known to handle in curves. Auto Meter Pro Comp Ultra Lite gauges adorn the dash behind a wood rimmed aluminum steering wheel to provide the driver with engine basics. New black carpet covers the floor and transmission tunnel where you'll find a relocated emergency brake complete with a Lokar handle next to the cars short shifter. Directly behind the seats are two of the four Eclipse audio speakers that are hooked to a trunk mounted and remote controlled Kenwood audio system. And rest assured, you'll be able to hear your favorite tunes as Dynamat sound deadening and insulation has been installed to separate the road noise from the cockpit. Hidden at the rear base of the passenger seat is a fire extinguisher for safety and the car includes both push button start and a master cut off switch. The trunk is fully carpeted and surprisingly roomy for such a small purpose built car. Despite the recently noted Kenwood audio system being housed here, there is still room for two nice sized suit cases.

Included in this sale is a folder of build receipts and a receipt for the 1991 donor Mustang. Accompanying those receipts is pictures of the build, a spec sheet, the dyno sheet and the metal Factory Five Racing body plate.
