It's about making a statement and turning heads. It's about the excitement of putting the wind in their face and the roar of an American V8 at their back. That's why rides like this awesome Camaro have such a loyal following. Sure, you'll probably see another one at the show. And it might not turn into a six-figure asset over the next decade. But, it's cool, it's stylish, it's unique and, most importantly, it provides a whole lot of enjoyment! Want to make it yours? Your friends at RK Motors Charlotte are happy to help!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Primped, polished and ready to roll, this awesome Chevy is the beneficiary of a detailed, ground-up restoration that was completed in late 2011. When the car's body was solid and smooth, Daytona Yellow 2-stage led hours of careful color-sanding. When that sanding was glossy and level, a fresh vinyl roof followed Tuxedo Black Super Sport stripes. And today, this Camaro rolls as a top-notch classic that preserves some of the best attributes of storied Chevrolet history!
With balanced proportions and crisp detailing, the first-generation Camaro is an inherently good-looking design. At the front of this coupe, a Satin Black grille hangs traditional headlights and a bright “SS” emblem above a polished bumper and clean parking lamps. At the top of that grille, a Camaro-branded header leads the eye to a familiar Super Sport hood, which is founded on tinted, stainless-trimmed glass. At the sides of that hood, a sculpted profile centers polished door handles, correct mirrors and ornate quarter louvers between factory emblems, stainless rocker spears and small marker lamps. And at the back of that profile, a Satin Black valance anchors factory taillights and a second “SS” badge between a requisite deck spoiler and a second polished bumper.
ENGINE
In its heyday, Chevrolet's 396 cubic inch big block played the role of all things to all people. Introduced in 1965, it was marketed as a top-of-the-line performance offering in Chevrolet's Corvette line, was widely used in Chevy's immensely popular Chevelle line, and even found its way under the hood of tough Chevrolet trucks. Stare in to this panther's smooth engine bay and you'll find a polished and painted 396 that, during the car's detailed restoration, was bored .060 over, fitted with forged TRW pistons and fully rebuilt. Power originates when wind whips through remote air cones to a coated Spectre plenum, which rides a 750cfm Holley that's wired to clean stainless fluid lines. That air/fuel mixture travels to a polished Edelbrock intake, which rides between cast iron heads, fabricated valve covers and a simple breather. Sparks get sequenced from a traditional points distributor to loomed MSD Super Conductor plug wires. Spent gases roar through large-diameter pipes via coated Hedman Hedders. Charge comes courtesy of a Concept One serpentine system, which spins an Edelbrock water pump between a polished alternator and a polished AC compressor. A beefy Be Cool radiator makes excellent use of dual SPAL puller fans and a polished expansion tank. And details like braided hoses, an Optima battery and a slick Wilwood master cylinder mix proven reliability with all-star appeal.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Park this Camaro on a lift and you'll find solid, Satin Black floorpans that span a roster of upgraded componentry. Behind the 396, a proven Muncie 4-speed twists torque to a tough 12-bolt axle. That axle rides a fully restored suspension, which backs quick-ratio power steering with a Belltech rear sway bar. At the corners of those sturdy bones, four Wilwood calipers cinch a quartet of drilled and slotted rotors. Charred dinosaurs float from the aforementioned headers in to 3-inch, Mandrel-bent exhaust pipes, which center an H-shaped crossover in front of dual-chamber Flowmaster mufflers. And power meets the pavement through American Racing Torq Thrust IIs, which spin 215/35ZR18 Sumitomo HTR ZIIIs and 255/30ZR20 Sumitomo HTR ZIIIs around a custom combination of black spokes and polished rims.
INTERIOR
Swing the doors and you'll find a customized leather interior that wraps firm Corbeau seats in a nice blend of classic flash and modern flair. In front of those seats, a factory dash hangs rebuilt telemetry beside Vintage Air Gen IV climate control and modern Alpine audio. Below that dash, a factory console balances a polished Hurst shifter behind factory 4-pack accessory gauges. Beneath that console, new carpet floats “SS” branded floor mats beneath large kick speakers. At the edge of that carpet, Standard door panels look great under factory handles. In front of the driver, a Rosewood Steering Wheel laps a tilting column. And behind the passengers, a carpeted trunk frames boxed Rockford Fosgate subwoofers.
