Description

A new year often inspires thoughts about the future. Planning, resolutions and idealizing what should be instead of optimizing what is. But whatever happened to the 'here and now'? You know, living in the moment and enjoying what we have as opposed to fighting for constant betterment and forever prolonging joy. So many enthusiasts are enthralled with owning the biggest, baddest and awesome-est garage trophy that they completely lose sight of the reason they fell in love with cars in the first place. Have you ever met any seasoned gearhead who reminisces about huge residuals or plastic trophies? That's why inventory like this sweet '70 Mustang is such a soothing breath of fresh air. Sure, it's a stellar classic that wears a squeaky clean restoration. And yes, we're willing to bet it'll build some value and grab a few trophies. But it's also the kind of car you buy because you actually enjoy working on, driving in, and playing with Detroit's finest metal. So, if you've been nodding in agreement with everything mentioned, this slick Ford belongs in your garage!

TIME TO TURN HEADS

The beneficiary of a 6-figure reboot that was completed by B-Mac's Auto Restoration of Raleigh, North Carolina, this slick pony features a custom combination of Lexus 2-stage and Cadillac tri-coat. Take one look down the sides of that tantalizing pigment and it becomes very obvious that all the car's professional metalwork, conducted by Graverobber Sheetmetal Replacement of Cumming, Georgia, was finessed to better-than-factory standards. Those straight and ripple-free surfaces, which included new doors, new quarters, a new hood, a new decklid and a new fender, we're aligned to a level of fit that would create solid reflections at any summertime car show. And in January of 2016, this Ford stormed the scene as one very well done pro-tourer that's built to exacting specifications.

Back in the day, Ford designers made sure every year of the first-generation Mustang had plenty of visual sizzle. And in the 21st century, it doesn't get much better than this drop-top's masterful combination of aggressive accents and well-placed trim. Those aesthetics begin with a stretched 1969 front-clip, which centers custom billet grilles between a mirrored bumper, H4 headlights, a carbon fiber splitter and a massaged valance that's devoid of marker lamps. Opposite that valance, a tough Boss 429 hood stacks a subtle stripe on a mesh-filled scoop and stylish Ringbrothers lanyards. Opposite those pins, a tasteful Cream roof hangs a tinted backlite behind polished wipers that ride a custom cowl, and polished frames that trace a new windshield. Opposite that glass, a silky profile plants mesh-filled Shelby side scoops behind factory door handles and factory Racing Mirrors. And opposite those guides, a trick power antenna shades polished exhaust tips, a second mirrored bumper and a 1967 taillight panel.

COYOTE POWER

Hoist this coupe's snug fitting hood and you'll find a 5.0 liter, DOHC Mod Motor that twists easy horsepower into miles of pavement scorching torque! Officially named 'Coyote', and officially known as the backbone of the current Mustang GT, this state-of-the-art crate engine utilizes forged internals, oil-cooled hypereutectic pistons, a long runner single scroll intake, variable valve timing and a direct-mount throttle body to create stout 11 to 1 compression all the way up to 7,000 RPM. At the top of the engine, a remote filter element feeds a custom air tube. At the sides of the engine, factory manifolds optimize breathing. At the front of the engine, a Vintage Air Front Runner system spins an assortment of smooth ancillaries. And a beefy aluminum radiator, fitted with large electric puller fans, provides plenty of cooling. The svelte powerplant is extremely tidy, with “POWERED BY FORD” cam covers and a “5.0” branded cowl concealing most of its factory silver block. And the car's show-detailed engine bay is finished with thoughtful accessories like a smoothed firewall, color-keyed structure bars, a mirrored core cover and snazzy Ringbrothers hood supports.

CRUISE WITH EASE

Behind the potent engine, a tough hydraulic clutch kicks a Tremec Magnum 6-speed, which, capable of funneling 700 lb./ft. of torque, spins a familiar Ford 9-inch that's finished with 31-spline axles. Those axles roll on a Heidts triangulated 4-link that's fitted with modern coil-over-shocks. That rear-clip pushes an upgraded front-half, which wraps a beefy sway bar around tubular control arms, two more coil-overs and requisite drop spindles. That chassis is solidified by sturdy subframe connectors, which make a noticeable difference in the car's overall rigidity. Turns come courtesy of power rack-and-pinion steering. Stops are provided by trusty Wilwood calipers, which grip a quartet of drilled and slotted rotors. Large-diameter pipes funnel spent gases through stainless cats, rowdy Flowmasters and polished resonators. The car's textured floors appear solid and weather-free. And at the corners, chrome Foose wheels carry 245/40ZR18 front and 275/40ZR18 rear Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs.

RIDE IN STYLE

Open the doors and you'll find a custom leather interior that wraps modern style around modern convenience. Heated seats, which feature full power adjustment for the car's driver, wear red-striped leather. Under those seats, rich carpet floats Mustang-themed mats between custom sills and hearty Dynamat insulation. At the center of that rug, a custom console founds a short shifter between chrome window switches and touchscreen audio. Above that island, a leather-wrapped and body-matched dash hangs Auto Meter Phantom telemetry next to a custom clock and Classic Auto Air conditioning. At the sides of that dash, custom door panels, anchored on big speakers, mimic factory styling. In front of the driver, a polished Grant steering wheel spins a thick, wood rim around a polished, tilting column. And behind the cockpit, a custom-upholstered trunk hides the car's battery next to a big amplifier and a loud subwoofer.
