Want to know the best thing about being a Chevrolet fan? The fact that, over its 107-year history, the bowtie division has created great cars for pretty much everyone. Now, being the avid Chevy fan that you are, you probably know finding a cool Chevelle isn't all that hard. But, scoring an outstanding resto-mod for cheaper than the high five-figure mark is becoming increasingly difficult. Luckily, since the passionate gearheads at RK Motors Charlotte specialize in A-Bodies of every flavor, we can offer you great opportunities like this awesome Super Sport. Wrapping a spry big block and tough 5-speed in a detailed, ground-up restoration, this coupe is a super cool muscle car that's ready to kick your weekends off with style! If you're in the market for a sweet classic that can be driven and shown without fear, don't miss the chance to own this head-turning Chevelle!
APPEARANCE
The beneficiary of an acute restoration that was completed in late 2007, this Chevelle is a sharp weekend cruiser that currently presents much better than original factory fodder. During the car's precise reboot, solid sheetmetal was completely striped of its dull, original pigment. With that shell removed, and its foundation massaged into great alignment, Corvette Rally Red base was sealed in mirror-like clear. And today, one close look at our high-resolution photos reveals a handsome payoff in the form of one slick Chevrolet muscle car!
During that examination of our rich photos you probably noticed that trim and ornamentation remain mostly as the General specified. At the front of this coupe's long body, a familiar Super Sport grille hangs a prominent “SS396” emblem between clear headlights and a bright bumper that's finished with small parking lamps. Behind that grille, a chrome-trimmed Super Sport hood centers a streamlined topper in front of fresh glass that's caged in straight frames, polished rails and mirrored wipers. At the sides of that hood, ornate fender emblems and quarter-mounted “Super Sport” scripts hint at the true nature of the big block's personality while tasteful door handles and a duo of bowtie mirrors perfectly complement slim wheel lips and correct Super Sport rockers. And out back, a color-keyed valance hangs a wide “C H E V E L L E” script between clean taillights, a second “SS396” emblem and a second bright bumper.
POWER
Check the car's body-matched engine bay and you'll find 396 cubic inches of buff Chevy big block that was professionally assembled by Goshen, Indiana's Hi-Rev Motorsports. At that top of that Chevy Orange mill, a trick wingnut cinches a polished air cleaner to a coated Quick Fuel carburetor. Wired to an Aeromotive rail and a liquid-filled Allstar pressure gauge, that spry carb dumps a crisp mixture of fossils and oxygen in to a sporty Edelbrock Performer 2-0 intake. At the back of that Endurashine plane, a reliable MSD distributor sequences spark between an MSD Blaster 2 coil and loomed Taylor plug wires. Above those cables, cast Chevy heads float polished Moroso breathers on chrome Chevrolet valve covers. At the front of the block, billet pulleys spin a polished Edelbrock water pump between a polished alternator and modern power steering. At the front of those ancillaries, an efficient Be Cool radiator makes excellent use of two electric puller fans. And a quality Holley fuel pump joins items like body-matched hood supports, a body-matched master cylinder and a deep Milodon oil pan to detail serious performance with serious flash.
DRIVETRAIN & SUSPENSION
Behind that impressive powertrain, a tough hydraulic clutch spins torque through a fresh Tremec 5-speed. That transmission is hooked to a familiar 12-bolt axle, which houses big, 4.10 gears. That drivetrain rolls on a massaged F41 Sport Suspension, which, along with the car's frame, has been completely powder-coated. At the front of that lowered chassis, color-keyed springs and QA-1 adjustable shocks are caged in a beefy sway bar and tubular control arms. Opposite that clip, a second beefy sway bar traces Edelbrock control arms and a second set of QA-1 adjustable shocks. The car's modern power steering is augmented with four power-assisted calipers that clamp a combination of drilled, slotted and vented discs. Hooker Super Competition headers dump spent gases in to stainless, Mandrel-bent exhaust pipes, which pierce an X-shaped crossover and polished Magnaflow mufflers. At the corners of the car, polished Intro wheels spin 245/45ZR17 Sumitomo HTRZ IIIs in front of 255/45ZR18 Sumitomo HTRZ IIIs. And this Chevelle's glossy, over-restored floors are dotted with high quality details like stainless hard lines, a polished inspection cover and a fresh fuel tank.
COMFORT
Pop this A-Body's solid doors and you'll find a clean Medium Red interior that's both attractive and timeless. In the middle of that cockpit, taut vinyl buckets are in excellent shape, showing no signs of wear. In front of those seats, a lightly customized dash hangs a full suite of Auto Meter Pro-Comp Ultra-Lite telemetry next to a modern Eclipse head unit. At the base of that dash, Chevelle-themed floor mats frame a factory console, which anchors a flashy Hurst shifter behind an Auto Meter vacuum gauge. Opposite that console, big Eclipse kick speakers lead factory side panels. In front of the driver, a color-keyed steering wheel laps a modern, tilting column. And behind the passengers, a custom-upholstered trunk hides dual Eclipse subwoofers under dual Eclipse deck speakers.
