Restored Indy Pace Car Convert. Tribute 502 V8 3 Speed Automatic 12 Bolt
For most enthusiasts, the privilege of owning a classic car isn't about numbers or return on investment. It's about heading out on the weekend and having a little bit of fun. It's about making a statement and turning heads. It's about the excitement of putting the wind in their face and the roar of an American V8 at their back. That's why rides like this awesome Camaro have such a loyal following. Sure, you'll probably see another one at the show. And it might not turn into a six-figure asset over the next decade. But, it's cool, it's stylish, it's unique and, most importantly, it provides a whole lot of enjoyment! Want to make it yours? Your friends at RK Motors Charlotte are happy to help!
APPEARANCE
The beneficiary of a detailed, ground-up restoration, this panther wears an icy coat of Dover White 2-stage that's as smooth as it is glossy. Under that pigment, solid body panels align well, presenting the kind of fit and finish that's common on high level builds. That alignment serves as an excellent canvas for Ontario Orange Rally Stripes. And those stripes parallel a full register of Rally Sport bolt-ons to complete an impressive, head-turning profile.
Chevrolet's first-generation Camaro is a handsome piece that, with its distinct absence of excess, accelerated a new era of Motor City style. At the front of this tasteful F1, an SS-branded grille hangs stylish Rally Sport headlights above a guarded bumper, clear parking lamps and a traditional D80 chin spoiler. Above that grille, a ZL-2 Cowl Induction Hood bridges a bright Camaro header emblem with fresh glass that's cased in straight trim, polished wipers and clean White vinyl. At the sides of that glass, a pinstriped profile seats polished door handles, ornate quarter louvers and a correct chrome mirror amid stainless wheel lips, dent-free rocker spears and intricate fender emblems. And at the back of the car, a second guarded bumper splits a clean “SS” emblem, correct Rally Sport taillights and a familiar D80 deck spoiler.
POWER
Looks aren't the only thing that inspires great memories. Toss this Camaro's hood and you'll find 502 cubic inches of Chevrolet big block that turns a hearty 9.6 to 1 compression into roughly 550 horsepower! At the top of that mill, a polished K&N air filter charges a 750cfm Demon carburetor, which floods a polished Edelbrock intake that's centered on XRP hoses and a quality CSR thermostat housing. At the sides of that intake, polished aluminum heads hide tough Crane roller rockers under Chevrolet-themed valve covers and a duo of polished breathers. At the back of those covers, an MSD Pro-Billet distributor flings fire between an MSD Blaster 2 coil and loomed Moroso plug wires. Spent gases exit through throaty Hooker Competition headers. Billet pulleys spin pliable V-belts in front of modern power steering, a polished alternator and a polished Edelbrock water pump. Cooling is provided by a polished AFCO radiator. Aesthetically, the engine compartment continues this Chevy's striking theme of pairing crisp paint with mirrored surfacing. And, everywhere it strays, the eye is met with quality ancillaries like ARP fasteners, Cloyes timing components and a coated Edelbrock fuel pump.
DRIVABILITY
Behind the big block, a proven 700R4 4-speed funnels torque to a tough 12-bolt axle that's detailed with a polished inspection cover. That pumpkin pushes a fully rebuilt, curve-carving suspension that's capped with modern power steering. Stops are provided by power-assisted disc and drums. At the center of the floor, aluminized exhaust employs baritone turbo mufflers. All that mechanical goodness rolls on polished American Racing wheels, which spin 215/45R18 Nexen N5000s in front of 225/55R18 Nexen N5000s. And, from its deep Moroso oil pan to its stainless steel fuel tank, this Chevy appears to be one sharp and dependable cruiser.
COMFORT
Open this F1's doors and you'll find a stylish Orange Houndstooth interior that feels like an island of vivid bliss. At the center of the car, a vinyl-trimmed bench complements Deluxe bucket seats. In front of those seats, a wood-trimmed dash founds rebuilt telemetry above a direct-fit cassette deck. At the base of that dash, monochromatic mats surf monochromatic carpet, which frames a wood-trimmed console that's finished with a trick armrest, 4-pack accessory gauges and a traditional Horseshoe Shifter. Opposite that console, Deluxe side panels frame polished door hardware. The driver spins a reproduction Rally Wheel. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk cages a correct jack beneath a full-size spare tire.
