Description

Here at RK Motors Charlotte we sell everything from high end Pro Touring cars to numbers matching investment grade automobiles and we sell a LOT of 1967-1969 Chevrolet Camaros. In our current inventory, we have a few numbers matching Z/28s that are perfectly suited for trailering to shows, and they're priced accordingly. But we also cater to customers who want cars that don't cost a fortune and can actually be driven to the show. This frame up restored 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 is just that. It features a great color combination and drivability that delivers exactly what you've been waiting for.

Before we go any further, I'd like to decode the cowl tag for you.

69 – Year of production
12 – Camaro
4 – Fixed number meaning nothing
37 – Coupe
NOR – Assembled in Norwood Ohio
140097 – The body number
711 – Black interior trim
52 52 – Garnet Red exterior color
10D – Body assembly started in the 4th week of October

Refinished in its original 52 Garnet Red and traditional black racing stripes, this Camaro was delivered to Modern Chevrolet in Winston Salem North Carolina in 1969. It comes equipped with the familiar look of optional factory air spoilers and an optional cowl induction hood. This Z/28 recently benefitted from a frame up restoration andthe body work is nothing short of immaculate. The seams look great and every panel is aligned to better than assembly line. A lot of effort was put into making sure the paint looks as slick as glass, and it shows. The paint is vibrant and the finish is excellent cementing its place as a car that can be shown with the best of them and driven without worry.

The chrome on the '69 adds that little extra panache to an already great design. The ornamentation and emblems are very nice despite this car being driven instead of trailered, as evidenced by the intentionally dulled chrome wipers. The glass is clear in front, on the sides and at the rear and both the headlights and tail lights are new. New 15" inch Rallye wheels wrapped in P225/60 BF Goodrich tires put this awesome muscle car in motion and provide a reliable and smooth ride. Stainless steel exhaust tips complete the look and make a promise of good things to come from the engine bay.

Under the hood fulfilling that promise is Chevrolet's legendary 302 small block V8. Rated at 290 horsepower on paper, this engine actually made somewhere closer to 400 horsepower in reality. While this isn't the original DZ 302 that came in the car, it is an original 1969 Z/28 DZ 302. The codesequence reads: V, meaning assembled in Flint Michigan, 1022, meaning assembly started on October22nd and DZ; the factory code for 302 cubic inch Z/28 motors. It is also stamped with the casting number 3932386 which dates it as a 1969 block. From the factory, the 1969 Z/28 included an aluminum intake, free breathing heads and a Holley carburetor. The carfeatured here has the correct Winters intake, correct double hump heads and a correct DZ Holley carburetor. Under the hood, this Z/28 is just as cleanas when it came off the showroom floor. The ground up restoration provided correct hoses, correct clamps, correct wires and correct chalk marks.

You'll notice that the attention to detail from the ground up restoration has been carried over underneath as well. Correct markings, new paint, fresh hardware and an aluminized exhaust system runthe entire length of the car. SCCA Trans Am winning power is put to the pavement by a factory equippedperformance suspension featuring coil springs up front and a live axle with heavy duty leaf springs in the rear. Housed within that suspension is a close ratio 4 speed transmission with the casting number 3925660 which was the only code used for Muncie transmissions in 1969 Camaros. That Muncie sends torque through a 12 bolt Posi-Traction rear end with 3.73 gears. 4 wheel disc brakes, which were offered for the first time on the Camaro line in 1969, and quick ratio power steering round out the package.

Inside the car you'll find the restored stock vinyl interior to be in excellent shape. The seats are restored tonew condition and the seat covers, seat foam and springs feel firm. A highlight is the '69 exclusive dash which features wood grain appliqué and the optional clock between the speedometer and tachometer. A replica replacement radio by Custom Autosound is mounted where the factory pushbutton AM/FM radio, which is included in the sale, once sat. An optional center consolehouses the hallmark four pack gauge pod and the chrome Hurst shifter and shift knob. The four pack is in excellent shape and the chrome and wood appliqué on the shift plate shows minimal wear. This car also came equipped with Astro Ventilation and a factory option sport styled steering wheelwhich lends a tailored look to the crisp and comfortable interior. The carpet looks as if it just rolled out of the factory. And the trunk finishes off this cruise ready car with a houndstooth mat and matching tire cover.

If you've been looking for a legitimate Z/28 which can be shown and driven, your search is over. Beautifully restored to a high standard both cosmetically and mechanically, this Z/28 is comfortable on the open road, at a cruise night or at a major show. The beautiful body & paint, high quality interior and intricately restored mechanicals pay homage to the original intent and unmistakable stance of the Camaro design. This car is comfortable on the open road, at a cruise night or at a major show. Most importantly, it represents what the hobby was originally about: a top notchcar that can be enjoyed anywhere.
