TRADITION MADE BETTER

Professionally finished by some of Charlotte's best hot rod shops, this fantastic F1 wears a traditional coat of Hugger Orange 2-stage that's been worked to near perfection. Under that pigment, solid body panels align well, presenting the kind of fit and finish that's common on high level builds. And that alignment serves as an excellent canvas for Pearl White Rally Stripes. Those stripes begin at a “Z/28” branded grille, which hangs modern headlights above a polished bumper and amber parking lamps. Above that grille, a Camaro-branded header leads a 4-inch Cowl Induction Hood, which shades fresh glass that's cased in straight stainless. At the sides of that glass, a sculpted profile seats polished door handles, ornate quarter louvers and correct chrome mirrors amid colorful “Z/28” badges and flowing “Camaro” scripts. And at the back of the car, a Camaro-branded trunk hangs a familiar D80 deck spoiler over traditional taillights, a fourth “Z/28” emblem and a second polished bumper.

BIG MADE BIGGER

Lift this Camaro's steel hood and you'll find 632 cubic inches of Nelson Racing Engines Hot Rod V8 that, without the aid of the car's polished Alien Intake, turned an incredible 820 dyno-proven horsepower into 770 lb./ft. of tire-spinning torque! Fires are lit when Electromotive fuel management floods polished and CNC-ported Brodix heads. Under those 440 cfm caps, a tough Dart block spins a forged Callies 4340 crank under JE pistons and Callies H-beam rods. A custom-grind cam plays well with relocated coils, loomed MSD Super Conductor plug wires and hydraulic roller lifters. At the front of those wires, a Billet Specialties Tru Trac serpentine drive spins Zoops power steering beneath a polished alternator, a polished AC compressor and a coated Edelbrock water pump. In front of those ancillaries, a polished Auto Rad core cover leads a polished Auto Rad radiator, which makes excellent use of a polished expansion tank and two electric puller fans. And exhaust duties are handled by Elston stainless Tri-Y headers. While this mill's main purpose is to go straight at a very high rate of speed, it's still very impressive to look at. Satin Charcoal paint slinks around Detroit Speed fender braces and billet hood supports to highlight a custom firewall. And overall, everything, from the car's quality ARP fasteners and polished master cylinder to its relocated oil filter and high-capacity oil pan, is well-planned and professionally executed.

FAST MADE FASTER

Bottom-side, a McLeod RXT twin-disc clutch kicks a tough Tremec TKO 5-speed, which spins a trusty Dana 60 differential. That driveline pushes a Detroit Speed QUADRALink rear-clip, which seats a sturdy Panhard bar behind Detroit Speed mini tubs and adjustable coil-over-shocks. Opposite that clip, a Detroit Speed sub-frame centers Detroit Speed power rack-and-pinion steering between tubular control arms, two more adjustable coil-overs and a racing sway bar. At the corners, Baer 4 and 6-piston calipers squeeze 14-inch front and 13-inch rear Baer drilled and slotted rotors. Exhaust floats from the aforementioned headers in to coated, Mandrel-bent pipes, which center a 3-inch crossover in front of stainless Magnaflow mufflers. Power meets the pavement through polished Budnik Cobalts, which spin two 275/35ZR18 BF Goodrich g-Force T/As in front of two 335/30ZR18 BF Goodrich g-Force T/As. And the car's clean, undercoated floors highlight top-notch finishing components like a steel scattershield, a custom stainless fuel tank and Detroit Speed sub-frame connectors.

BETTER MADE BEST

Installed by Chuck Hannah of Mooresville, North Carolina's Hot Rod Interiors by Chuck, this Chevy's tastefully customized cockpit is tailored and taut. Front and center, Recaro-style buckets stretch monochromatic leather under hearty Simpson harnesses. Opposite those thrones, a traditional dash frames bright Auto Meter Pro-Comp Ultra-Lite telemetry beside modern Alpine audio and controls for modern air conditioning. Beneath that dash, a custom, full-length console centers a digital air/fuel display in front of a short Tremec shifter. In front of the driver, a tilting Flaming River column spins a thick Flaming River wheel around metal foot pedals. And behind the passengers, Dynamat sound insulation sandwiches trick California Carpet under a Detroit Speed roll bar and custom side panels.
