Award Winning Restored Impala SS Restomod 327 V8 4spd Automatic A/C
Introduced in 1958 as Chevrolet's first foray upmarket, the Impala proved GM's volume car juggernaut had the strength to be all things to all people. It was the ride your upper class neighbors enjoyed and, like the original Bel Air, it wholly embodied the time of its creation. With that in mind, the restoration of this 1,000-point coupe involved a frame-off mix of nostalgia and convenience that created a better-than-new cruiser. Amenities like a correct 327 and smooth 700R4 4-speed make this the perfect car for fun drives while classic lines, a fashionable interior and miles of Silver Blue paint are sure to keep collectors happy. If you're looking for a spectacular classic that's road ready, show ready, and just plain ready to go, this classy bowtie is a whole lot of metal for not a lot of money!
FOREVER STYLISH
One of only two cars awarded a full 1,000 points at the 2015 Eckler's Classic Chevy Show in Orlando, Florida, this awesome B-Body displays immaculate metalwork that simply glistens. A lot of time and effort was put in to making sure the car's profile was extremely straight, which resulted in a chiseled showboat that's completely wave-free. And that choice form is bathed in a rich layer of Silver Blue base that's been sealed in durable clear and buffed to a spectacular shine.
Chevrolet's third generation Impala is a stylish piece that, with its absence of excessive chrome, suggests GM had officially left the tailfin-induced bender America enjoyed throughout the 1950s. A broad stainless grille hangs modern halo headlights and an ornate “Chevrolet” script between a patriotic header and a guarded bumper that's fashioned around amber parking lamps. At the top of that grille, a subtle hood spear leads the eye to crisp glass that's cleared by polished wipers, sealed in polished frames and reflected in polished mirrors. At the sides of that hood, engine-turned Super Sport spears reflect traditional door handles, small cross-flag emblems and bold “IMPALA SS” quarter badging. That engine-turned theme is carried to the car's rear valance, where LED taillights illuminate a second header and prominent “CHEVROLET” lettering. And that valance floats between an angled antenna, a second guarded bumper and a stainless-trimmed, “IMPALA SS” branded trunk.
TRADITIONAL POWER
Scoot for this sweet coupe comes from a 327 cubic inch Chevrolet small block that, according to its 3782870 casting number, is correct to the car. At the top of the freshly rebuilt mill, a dual snorkel air cleaner funnels wind in to a coated Edelbrock carburetor, which dressed in a quality Lokar linkage, a braided line and a liquid-filled Jegs pressure gauge. Below that juice box, an iron Chevrolet intake perfectly complements correct Chevrolet heads, which anchor painted valve covers over a Comp roller cam and Comp roller lifters. At the back of that intake, a retrofitted HEI distributor shoots spark through loomed MSD Super Conductor plug wires, which lurk beneath restored exhaust manifolds. At the front of those manifolds, a polished Concept One serpentine drive spins a polished water pump between a polished alternator, a polished AC compressor and modern power steering. And in front of those ancillaries, an aluminum Griffin radiator leads spry SPAL puller fans.
READY TO ROLL
One look under this sturdy cruiser reveals a solid X-frame chassis that's been carefully powder-coated and professionally reassembled. Torque meets the pavement through a chrome-trimmed 700R4 4-speed, which spins a factory rear axle. That massaged drivetrain rides a restored double A-arm front and 3-link rear suspension. That suspension's handling is greatly enhanced by a power-assisted CPP steering gear. Quick stops are provided by power-assisted discs and drums. Exhaust flows from the aforementioned manifolds to aluminized pipes and baritone turbo mufflers. And all that old school Americana rolls on 17-inch Ridlers, which spin 225/50 Nexen N5000s around Charcoal spokes.
RETRO AND LIVABLE
Installed during the detailed restoration, this Impala's monochromatic interior has been restored to factory-fresh condition in virtually every way. Professionally rebuilt by Romero's Auto Tops of Loganville, Georgia, SS-specific front bucket and rear bench seats present just as well as the day they rolled out of the upholstery shop. Front and center, a padded dash hangs trick Dakota Digital telemetry next to Vintage Air climate control and direct-fit audio. At the base of that dash, a stylish, SS-specific console founds a factory shifter in front of lockable storage. In front of the driver, a speed-drilled steering wheel laps a tilting column. And modern amenities abound, including power windows, power door locks, Cruise Control and 3-point seat belts for the car's front passengers.
