Description

What's better than getting your hands on a cool classic that's fun and easy to live with? Getting your hands on a cool and equally interesting classic that's sure to be unlike anything you'll ever see at a monthly Cars & Coffee gathering! A unique collectable for gearheads who desire substance over performance, this 1953 Willys combines go anywhere spirit with all-American valor. Looking for a sentimental ride that'll fascinate and delight? Here's a robust roller for every General Purpose!

DRAB DELIGHT

Officially the first appearance of the 'round fender' Jeep, the M38A1 was quite different than its civilian CJ5 counterpart. In addition to standard military accoutrements like a 24-volt electrical system and generalized GI instrumentation, the truck featured a stronger chassis that made excellent use of reversed front spring shackles. Willys' dedication to tough engineering certainly paid dividends, as the ute saw military duty for well over two decades!

The beneficiary of a through, frame-on restoration that was completed in 2018 by Rutland, Maryland's Greg's Restorations, this M38A1 dresses traditional Olive Drab paint in patriotic U.S. Army callouts. Under that pigment, a straight fuselage features retro panels that fit well and look good. A hinged, 1-piece windshield leans just beneath a decommissioned machine gun. Up front, a thick tow rope ensures mud doesn't turn into capture, and out back a vintage Pintle Hook capacitates a small trailer. Extended trials, both expected and unexpected, are accounted for with a large Jerry Can and a full-size spare tire. And cool details include a small mirror, a tied antenna and an NOS Blackout Head Lamp.

60 MPH HURRICANE

Hoist the hood and you'll find 134 cubic inches of proven Willys Hurricane that follows a new carburetor, a new fuel pump, a new generator and a rebuilt distributor with new plug wires and an NOS exhaust manifold. Power flows through a tough Borg-Warner 3-speed, which, positioned next to a new starter, spins Spicer front and rear axles. That drivetrain hangs in a rugged leaf spring suspension, which stretches old school manual steering between NOS drum brakes. And at the corners of the floor, study steel wheels twist 6.00-16 Firestone Military tires.

IT'S A (MILITARY) JEEP THING

When you're talking about trucks from the World War II era, you're essentially talking about combining the best elements of battle and utility. Between this Jeep's deleted doors, there's enough room for up to four troops on simple cloth seats. Opposite those thrones, an Olive Drab dash hangs vivid telemetry in front of fresh wiring. There's an antique ammo box that nicely complements the truck's big gun. And the driver rules the road through three shifters and a simple Olive Drab steering wheel.

Mixing unique character with all-American swagger, this Willys is one super cool classic! And when it comes to the driving experience, it's about as much fun as you can have on four wheels! Call, click or visit https://www.RKMotors.com for more information.
