Restored Two-Top Corvette Conv. 427/400 Tri-Power 4-speed Air Conditioning
Start talking vintage sports cars and the second generation Stingray is almost always directly referenced. Offered in two body styles, and equipped with engine options that spanned 149 cubic inches, the C3 was capable of satisfying nearly every gearhead that took interest. And that legacy of universal appeal has continued for over 60 years, giving fans and aficionados the parts and inspiration to enjoy their favorite car pretty much indefinitely. Take this svelte convertible, for example. Thoughtfully rehabilitated via calculated restoration, this tastefully detailed Chevy turns a universally appealing platform into a Main Street super star. If you're ready to hit the road in a brash, head-turning classic, check out this stunning Corvette!
ABSOLUTE AND AWESOME
The beneficiary of a quality body-on restoration that was completed by Eismann's Corvette Center of Jupiter, Florida, this sweet C3 presents correct Cortez Silver pigment that, when combined with a rare Gunmetal interior, makes the car both exciting and exclusive. At the front of that pigment, chrome-trimmed grilles center small parking lamps between a thin bumper and a subtle chin spoiler. Above that brow, a cross-flag-branded header draws the eye to a chrome-trimmed hood that seats bold “427” emblems at the foot of a vacuum operated cowl. That hood reflects an array of clean glass that's framed in straight stainless and capped by either fresh canvas or an unrestored hardtop. At the sides of that glass, flush door poppers and classy “Stingray” emblems perfectly complement chrome mirrors and Satin Black rocker guards. Those mirrors reflect a polished luggage rack, which frames a cross-flag fuel filler. And at the back of the car, a “CORVETTE” branded valance hangs a chrome tag frame and 2-tone tail lamps above thin bumpers and polished exhaust tips.
TRI-POWER 427
Beneath this Vette's sculpted hood, you'll find 427 cubic inches of buff L68 big block that triangulates a correct 3963512 casting number between a September (I) 11th (11) 1969 (9) casting date, a correct “LQ” suffix stamp and a matching 731419 partial VIN. Straight from the factory, this beefy big block utilizes GM's storied tri-power technology to twist stout 10.25 to 1 compression into an even 400 horsepower! At the peak of the road-ready mill, a polished and decaled air cleaner swirls wind into an aluminum Winters intake via three Holley carburetors. At the sides of that intake, cast iron heads prop stamped and polished valve covers above factory exhaust manifolds. And at the back of those heads, chrome-capped ignition sequences spark through stainless sleeved plug wires. When fired, the infamous 427 rumbles like an old school stoplight slayer. Its ancillary components are top-notch in every way, with a fresh master cylinder and an old school Frigidaire AC compressor accompanying an aluminum Harrison radiator. And attractive Chevy Orange engine skin is the perfect complement to Satin Black fenders.
ENHANCED AND ELEGANT
Peer under this low-slung roadster and you'll find a familiar factory chassis that's straight, solid and ready to roll. The car's stout big block twists torque through a tough Muncie 4-speed, which hangs a 1969 (9) Muncie (P) M20 (A) assembled on October ( R ) 1st, (01) 1968 build stamp behind a correct 3925661 casting number and a matching 731419 partial VIN. That proven transmission spins a tough differential that, according to its date-correct “AT” assembly stamp, wraps a heavy-duty posi-traction differential around spry 3.08 gears. Beneath that drivetrain, a factory suspension combines optional power steering with power-assisted discs. Aluminized pipes shuttle spent gases through rowdy Flowmaster mufflers. And all that high quality hardware rolls on handsome Rally Wheels, which spin 225/70R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As around polished trim rings and turbine center caps.
GUNMETAL GLORY
Slip in to this Stingray's correct Gunmetal interior and settle on attractive vinyl buckets that are dressed in tight, weather-free hides. A familiar dash founds an array of black-trimmed telemetry above factory air conditioning and requisite AM/FM audio. At the base of that dash, a tapered console plants a factory shifter in front of optional power windows. “CORVETTE” branded floor mats split the difference between stainless-trimmed foot pedals and crack-free door panels. And a tilting and telescoping column spins a sporty, satin-spoke steering wheel.
With its hot motor, sinuous body and comfy interior, this solid sports car is an attractive, well-done classic. And best of all, being a Corvette Stingray, its appeal is nearly universal. If you're in the market for a no excuses collector car with an unbeatable combination of style and performance, this Chevy is your kind of ride!
