FAMILY TREASURE

Owned by one loving family for all 53 years of its existence, this sweet Shelby has enjoyed the life of a pampered second vehicle. Four of those five decades were spent in the company of the original purchaser, who cruised the car selectively until a career move forced him to mothball it and make plans for a ground-up restoration. Circa 2008, that owner's brother, having a renewed interest in the Ford he literally watched his sibling purchase, nabbed the Shelby and, with the help of acute restoration, put what was a 59K-mile time capsule back on the road. Naturally, this Mustang's sculpted profile wears correct Lime Gold skin that's finished with requisite war paint. And today, the car rolls as one razor-sharp classic that looks good, runs great and is poised to turn heads for years to come!

Shelby's GT line threw fuel on the muscle car fire by not only adding power, but also introducing some of the coolest and most aggressive Mustang design elements ever created. At the front of this coupe, a mesh grille hangs a familiar “SHELBY G.T. 350” emblem between Wagner driving lamps, Wagner headlights and a sharp chrome bumper. At the top of that grille, a pinned Shelby hood leads the eye to chip-free glass, which is founded in mirrored stainless trim. Behind that glass, a correct, SHELBY-branded decklid trails correct Shelby quarter scoops and a factory mirror. At the sides of that decklid, a straight profile hangs correct Shelby cove scoops between polished door handles and classy GT350 emblems. And at the back of the car, correct taillights and an original fuel filler complement a second chrome bumper, bright reverse lamps and polished exhaust tips.

ORIGINAL 289

Hoist the lightweight hood and you'll find 289 cubic inches of original Ford power! At the top of that Hi-Performance Windsor block, an attractive Cobra air cleaner jams oxygen into a hot Cobra intake via choice Holley carburetion. At the sides of that intake, cast iron heads hang attractive Cobra valve covers between a polished breather and correct exhaust manifolds. The engine's fires get lit by a requisite FoMoCo distributor and 7mm High Temp Static Suppression cables. And, aesthetically, this Mustang's detailed engine bay appears very close to original, featuring an even combination of Ford Blue and Satin Black paint under correct Ford decals.

TOPLOADER OR BUST!

Behind that legendary V8, an original Toploader 4-speed spins a rugged Ford 9-inch. At the front of that drivetrain, straight control arms hang a beefy sway bar and correct power steering between vented rotors and power-assisted calipers. At the back of that drivetrain, familiar leaf springs join correct, power-assisted drums to cage a fresh fuel tank and fresh KYB Gas-a-Just shocks. At the center of the car, aluminized, true-dual exhaust funnels spent gases through an H-shaped crossover and throaty turbo mufflers. And power meets the pavement through polished Magnum 500s, which twist 235/60R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As.

SPEED AND STYLE

Inside this Ford's tidy cockpit, you'll find an optional Décor Group Interior that's both stylish and correct. The first thing you'll notice is an old school wood-rimmed and speed-drilled steering wheel that laps a timeless GT350 centerpiece. Above that steering wheel, a great looking dash founds a correct 140 MPH speedometer next to a correct 8,000 RPM tachometer. In front of that dash, plush vinyl buckets are paired with a predictable roll bar and correct, optional shoulder belts. A reliable Hurst shifter backs retro Stewart Warner accessory gauges, which frame an old school Shelby assembly plate. And behind the passengers, a familiar Sport Deck seat opens to a clean trunk.
