Award Winning Camaro Convertible Restomod LS2 V8 Auto Heidts Pro-G Leather A/C
If you want to create a crowd-pleasing custom, there are a few simple rules to follow. For starters, base your build around a popular model. Keep the paint scheme memorable, the wheels tasteful and make sure to dial in the stance. And, for best results, throw in plenty of power, a capable chassis and a tailored interior that's comprised of carefully chosen materials. It's much more difficult than it sounds, but this exceptional Camaro adheres to that formula for a result that's nothing short of spectacular. Mixing modern GM power and a smooth GM 6-speed with a full Heidts suspension and custom leather upholstery, no piece of this stunning F-Body was left unimproved. And if you're ready to rule the show and stop traffic on the strip, it's the killer classic your heart desires!
NATIONAL AWARD WINNING STYLE
Blasted bare and rotisserie restored by Yoke's Body Shop of Powell, Ohio, this sweet F1 has, in addition to claiming awards at ISCA, Goodguys and MCACN events, been invited to the GM Nationals and graced the cover of Super Chevy Magazine. However, lest you think it's just another trailer queen marvel, the car has also been professionally sorted over roughly 200 miles of varied blacktop. Naturally, a show-stopping profile needs show-stopping paint, which manifests as DuPont Snakeskin Green base under a slick Metallic Charcoal stripe and of layers of wet-looking clear. And today, this legendary Chevy rolls as one razor-sharp F1 pro-tourer that's poised to show and raring to go!
When it comes to muscle cars and body modifications, it's best to de-emphasize ornamentation. Too much era-correct bits will make the build look disjointed, and too much chrome just makes everything look tacky. Thankfully, this Chevy's builders did a great job of placing form over function and keeping add-ons to a minimum. At the front of the car, a shaved Rally Sport grille shades a custom, mesh-lined valance, which seats traditional Rally Sport parking lamps at the corners of a crisp D80 spoiler. Above that grille, a shaved header leads a traditional Cowl Induction Hood, which draws the eye to a stainless-trimmed greenhouse that's cleared by satin-sheen wipers. That glass's one-piece backlite is sealed in custom, Graphite-colored cloth that, coordinated through the owner of Haartz Corporation, took two attempts to perfect. Opposite that top, professionally chromed belt trim traces a clean profile that's dotted with factory door handles, a factory mirror and traditional marker lamps. And at the back of the car, a Metallic Charcoal valance seats a Super Sport fuel cap and Camaro coupe taillights between a polished bumper and a second D80 spoiler.
Gr8 GM POWER
Under the hood, an even six liters of massaged GM small block, sourced from a 3K-mile Pontiac G8, spins 410 rear-wheel horsepower into 379 lb./ft. of tire-torching torque! At the front of that all-aluminum mill, an AIRRAID filter funnels wind into a 90mm LS2 throttle body. A finely tuned mixture of fuel and air falls through hot L92 heads, which have been rebuilt with tough COMP pushrods and spry Livernois Motorsports springs. Those heads cap a stock rotating assembly that's been augmented with a quality Livernois Motorsports cam. A factory serpentine drive spins modern power steering opposite a modern AC compressor. A baffled oil pan joins reliable AC Delco plug wires to split customized Hedman Hedders. A beefy AFCO radiator hangs a billet expansion tank next to a big electric puller fan. Details like Snakeskin brace bars, a subtle closeout panel and familiar Wilwood brake components ensure first-class presentation. And all that performance glitz is constructed between a conservative cowl and clean, Satin Black paint.
TRADITION PLUS ABILITY
Park this Camaro on a lift and you'll find solid floorpans that frame modern aftermarket components in a subdued coat of Satin Black skin. A custom transmission tunnel hugs a tough 6L80 6-speed, sourced from the same Pontiac G8 as the car's engine, which twists power to a 9-inch Moser axle that's finished with fun, 3.54 gears. Power-assisted Heidts rack-and-pinion steering leads a Heidts Pro-G front-clip that's finished with tubular control arms, two-inch drop spindles, a one-inch sway bar and adjustable QA-1 coil-overs. Opposite that clip, an adjustable Heidts 4-link pairs a stiff Panhard bar with two more adjustable QA-1 coil-overs. That chassis, set-up by the professionals at Powell, Ohio's Auto Assets, employs sturdy subframe connectors to wrestle this Chevy's 3,778 mass into a keen 51/49 weight distribution. A frame-mounted Wilwood proportioning valve sequences six and four-piston Wilwood calipers, which clamp 12 and 14-inch drilled and slotted rotors behind hand-fabricated cooling ducts. Charred dinosaurs float from the aforementioned headers into custom, three-inch pipes, which position mean Xlerator mufflers between an H-shaped crossover and polished tips. And torque transitions to pavement through custom Boze wheels, which spin 245/40ZR18 Nitto NT05s in front of 275/35ZR19 Nitto NT05s.
NATIONAL AWARD WINNING STYLE TIMES TWO
Behind the solid-closing doors you'll find a custom leather cockpit that, thanks to Ridler Great 8 winner John Miller, wraps tons of classic flash in miles of modern flair. The car's seven hides of leather begin on reshaped Lexus buckets that feature full power adjustment for both the driver and front passenger. A leather-capped dash hangs custom Burnt Rust stitching around Vintage Air climate control, Dakota Digital VHX telemetry and modern RetroSound audio that bumps crisp Infinity speakers. Below that dash, thick Dynamat insulation floats custom wool carpet around billet foot pedals and a factory console that's centered on a factory horseshoe shifter. Custom side panels are an excellent complement to the Haartz custom top, which has been carefully color-matched to the car's sedate leather. The driver spins a leather-clad Lecarra steering wheel around a tilting column. And naturally, this Chevy's trunk has been customized to match!
Well-built, fully detailed and attention grabbing in every way, this Camaro finds the perfect midpoint between show and go. And, created in adherence to the basic tenants of custom-car building, you can rest assured that its appeal won't fade with time. If you're ready to bring home one of the coolest Chevys we've seen, free up some garage space and give us a call!
