Fresh Rotisserie Restored and Upgraded Bronco 306ci V8 Automatic
Sometimes an item is so good that its trademarked name becomes a generic term for an entire category of products. Many of us say Kleenex instead of tissue, Xerox instead of copy, or Band-Aid instead of bandage, despite knowing the proper term. The off-roading world finds one more example in the Ford Bronco. To many, the word Bronco defines an array of capable, feel-good fun machines that can be found in all the places we'd rather be, from the mountains and the woods to the beaches and the dunes. And classics like this professionally restored resto-mod are an excellent reminder why. A perfect blend of timeless style and proven mechanicals, this handsome beast is a first-rate exercise in old school utility and off-road swagger. And if you're looking for a super cool cruiser that can be enjoyed for years to come, it's the classic of your dreams!
FACTORY COLORS, GLASURIT SHINE
Riding the massive wave of goodwill generated by the reveal of Ford's latest and greatest off-roader, it's easy to recite the many merits of the Blue Oval's second pony. However, nostalgic romanticism aside, the simple fact remains that few vehicles have aged better than a first-generation Bronco. And that goes double for something as undeniably immutable as this restoration-fresh Explorer! Completed in January of 2020, this ute's rotisserie rebuild was a fully documented, 2.5-year affair that, conducted by the pros at Greenville, South Carolina's Creative Rods & Restoration, reached well into six-figure territory. Over 2,000 hours of labor began with a full blast of the truck's body, which was eventually seam-sealed and undercoated with LizardSkin noise and heat insulation. Slick Glasurit two-stage manifests as a fitting combination of flaked Midnight Blue and pearled Wimbledon White: colors that are technically correct to 1974. And it all adds up to a timeless and handsome classic that wraps the best elements of retro-chic style around fresh, thoughtfully updated mechanicals.
In addition to new factory bolt-ons, this Ford features a roster of first-rate details. At the front of the truck, a pearled Wimbledon White grille centers color-keyed “FORD” lettering between fresh parking lamps, LED headlights and a body-matched bumper. Behind that grille, a steel hood points a familiar scoop at crisp glass that's seated between small wipers and a billet windshield hinge. At the sides of that hood, enlarged fender openings join enlarged quarter openings under buff Kindig It Design wheel flares. Between those flares, a sculpted, “Bronco” branded profile centers removable doors behind polished handles, more billet hinges and stylish Scott Drake mirrors. At the back of that profile, a factory, Wimbledon White hardtop fits nicely around custom, Midnight Blue roll bars. And at the back of those tubes, a “FORD” stamped tailgate hides flashy stainless hardware between polished exhaust, factory taillights and a second body-matched bumper.
POWERED BY FORD
Pop this Bronco's bonnet and you'll find 306 cubic inches of compact Ford V8 that was sourced directly from the pros at BluePrint Engines. What's more: decked, honed and sonic-tested, that mill is poised to rev for decades! At the top of the seasoned, hand-picked block, a colored-keyed air cleaner feeds reliable Holley Sniper fuel injection, which floods an aluminum intake. At the front of that intake, a hot HEI distributor sparks thick Moroso Ultra 40 plug wires, which crawl around a sedate FoMoCo breather and trick, Bronco-branded valve covers. Below those covers, aluminum BluePrint heads are finished with hardened springs, hardened retainers and swirl-polished valves. Those heads cap a balanced rotating assembly that spins a cast steel crank beneath moly rings, hypereutectic pistons and 150,000psi rod bolts. A hydraulic roller cam joins hydraulic roller lifters to create stout 9.5 to 1 compression. Ceramic-coated block hugger headers funnel spent gases into large-diameter exhaust pipes. A billet March serpentine drive spins a polished alternator opposite modern power steering. A lightweight aluminum radiator wears a large SPAL pusher fan under a small, body-matched support. All the motor's ancillary components, from its Optima battery and fresh wiper motor to its double-roller timing chain and high-volume oil pump, appear to be high quality kit. And it all adds up to a solid 370 horsepower!
NUT-AND-BOLT RESTORATION
Crawling under this fresh Ford reveals a lovingly restored chassis that appears completely weather-free. Power meets the pavement through a smooth 4-speed, which rides between a straight frame and strong axles that have all been fully blasted and professionally powder-coated. A fully rebuilt suspension makes the most of new sway bars and a tough, 2.5-inch lift. Power-assisted turns get funneled through a tight Borgeson gearbox. A new brake booster kicks hydraulics to fresh front discs and fresh rear drums. Aluminized, true-dual exhaust growls through throaty Magnaflow mufflers. A polished fuel cap seals a single, 20-gallon tank, which replaces the truck's antiquated dual tank and dual filler set-up. Everything rolls on handsome Mickey Thompson Classics, which twist 33x12.50R15 BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/As around Mile Marker hubs and Mickey Thompson caps. And naturally, there's a fifth Mickey Thompson wheel and fifth BF Goodrich tire in case anything slumps.
SO SIMPLE, SO GOOD!
Open this Explorer's doors and you'll find an airy cockpit that features glowing White upholstery. The seats, kept factory-spec to maintain this resto-mod's glorious retro theme, face a restoration-fresh dash that's augmented with factory heat and vintage-style Classic Instruments telemetry. LizardSkin-coated floors pack quality Dynamat insulation under custom-cut Daytona Carpet that poses a nice contrast to brilliant side panels. Fresh wiring jolts a vintage looking radio, which uses modern, Bluetooth-compatible internals to juice a quartet of Polk Audio speakers. And the driver spins a classy factory steering wheel.
Functional and as hard-working as ever, this choice Bronco is a fun classic that can easily earn its keep! It's professionally restored. It features a proven Ford drivetrain. And best of all, it's retro-chic aesthetics are sure to cue smiles and inspire stares. Looking for a sweet ride that mixes unmatched style with instant fun? Check out this buff Ford!
