Description

If you missed the dual quad 1960 Chevrolet Corvette we sold last month for $105K here's your chance to redeem yourself. There's just something special about an early solid-axle Corvette. Whether it's the connection to the very first Corvette in 1953 or their classy curved shape, or the fact that they're the origin of America's super car dynasty, these cars are unique among even the Corvette family in terms of collector appeal and driving characteristics. This sweet 1958 Corvette roadster wraps a dual quad 283 and classic good looks into a show-stopping car that is both fun to look at and thrilling to drive.

The recipient of a recent frame-off restoration, this 1958 Corvettes smooth body is covered in glowing Signet Red paint and features traditional gloss white door coves. The bright red, which appears almost orange under our RK Motors Charlotte showroom lights provides a fitting look that goes hand in hand with the affluent image of 50s Corvettes and, when combined with the cars curvaceous body, always seems to draw your eye even in our sea of highly desirable collector cars. Panel gaps are factory straight and there is no evidence that this C1s fiberglass body has ever been hit or seen significant repairs. The cars surface is as clean as when it pulled into a Chevrolet showroom 53 years ago and the body panels display an excellent finish which gives this Corvette a nice 'still wet' looking sheen.

For 1958 the Corvette reached a design pinnacle which some argue it has never since matched. Up front, an aggressively styled and well-tailored 3 piece chrome grille, sits behind angled front bumpers that curve around the sides of the car and a fang style chrome front tag bracket. Below the bumpers you'll find round chrome trimmed marker lights, and above the bumpers, four pristine headlights are surrounded by chrome bezels and divided by a centered three piece Corvette emblem with correct gold lettering. On the hood of the car, 1958 exclusive hood louvers run perpendicular to mirror-like stainless trim that caps centered front fender ridges. At the sides of the car, completely restored and buffed stainless trim and traditional red, white and black Corvette crossed flag emblems detail the door coves giving the car a finished and polished look. The cars blemish free curved windshield sits inside stellar looking stainless trim which complements new stainless windshield wipers, chrome door handles and chrome rearview mirrors that are mounted on both the driver's side door and dash. At the top of the windshield, a white vinyl top with a plastic rear window folds into a trunk that features 1958 specific chrome spears and a second gold lettered Corvette emblem. Below the trunk, show quality rear bumpers align perfectly with the stainless trunk spears and feature factory correct exhaust tips. At the edges of the car, new chrome trimmed brake lights sit above round turn signals and combine satin finished tag bracket light to provide rear illumination.

Flip up the traditional front hinged fiberglass hood and you'll see the other reason behind the Corvettes 58 year legacy: performance! A perfect fit in this car's engine bay, the code 3834812 283 cubic inch V8 engine is secured by chrome motor mounts and features a correct dual quad intake that is topped with two correct Carter four barrel carburetors. After the cars original 283 four barrel engine block (which comes with the car) developed hairline cracks, the owner decided that the dual quad engine would be a perfect complement to his Corvettes killer good looks, and we can't help but agree. On top of the Carter carburetors, a correct low profile louvered air cleaner complements a rear mounted and chrome covered transistorized ignition. At the sides of the intake, correct Corvette finned aluminum valve covers sit above original ram's horn exhaust manifolds. In front of the motor, fresh hoses run to a correct satin black radiator and a fresh V-belt turns a correct fan and correct generator. The clean engine bay wears traditional GM satin black paint and the '62-'63 engine block is finished in a nice coat of Chevrolet Orange. This stout dual carbureted Chevrolet small block gives this Corvette the ability to cruise effortlessly down the boulevard for eyeball popping passes, and the power to tear up the pavement at the local drag strip during cheer inducing time trials.

Sitting behind the hot 283 is a 4-speed Borg Warner T10 transmission that sends power to the cars factory rear axle. At the front of the car, a factory double A-arm suspension houses manual drum brakes along with components for the cars manual steering and appears to be in excellent working order. At the back of the car, factory leaf springs feature two more manual drum brakes and good looking Delco rear shocks that were added during the recent restoration. Exhaust is handled by a true dual system that pipes gases from correct ram's horn manifolds through factory replacement mufflers to correct bumper housed tips. At the corners of the car, 15 inch steel wheels wear Goodyear 6.70-15 wide white wall tires and carry correct aluminum spinner style wheel covers that have been stamped with Corvette crossed flags and “Chevrolet Corvette” script. The dual carbureted motor works well with the tried and true drivetrain to provide both amazing acceleration and relaxed highway cruising. And the bottom of the car is sprayed in a nice coat of satin black and doesn't appear to have seen much street time or any rainy days since its restoration.

Inside the car a sumptuous black vinyl interior complements a gloss black dash that houses fantastic looking round gauges and indicator lights. The cars vinyl seats are fresh with like-new covers that show no significant wear and tear and fit perfectly inside the stainless trimmed convertible cowl. At the center of the interior, the cars black dash flows to the floorboard in typical Corvette waterfall fashion and houses a chrome trimmed direct fit AM/FM cassette deck, controls for the cars heater/defroster and a cool electric clock. Top dead center on that transmission tunnel you'll find the T10s chrome shifter that is complete with a reverse lock out and white cue ball knob. The door panels are correct pieces that feature amazing stainless trim, great looking door handles, correct chrome window cranks and door locks and pristine black arm rests. Connecting the driver to the road is a correct three spoke Corvette steering wheel that features a matching black rim and a polished horn button. And behind the cockpit, the trunk is just as well finished as the rest of the car featuring new black panels and a new black rubber mat.

Exceptionally well-built and incredibly fun, this 1958 Corvette preserves the timeless design of the 50s and, with its dual carbureted 283, is a blast to drive anywhere. With awesome looks that'll make you a one car parade anywhere you go there simply isn't a better way to enjoy your Saturday afternoons. To top it off, this is the lowest priced fully restored 1958-1962 Corvette Roadster we've ever had... And it's nicer than most of the ones we've sold in the past. Call today!
