Description

There are many different definitions of cool in the collector car hobby. There are rare cars that are nice to show off and talk about because of their stories and exclusivity. There are performance cars that are purpose built toys for some specific event, like a fun day at the track. Then there are cars like this 1990 Dodge Ramcharger 150 which are just a blast to own and drive 365 days a year. Fully sorted and ready to hit the road, this Plum Crazy Purple Dodge is one of the toughest and most capable SUVs ever built. If you hesitated to pull the trigger on the 5,900 actual mile 1988 Ramcharger we featured last week which literally sold overnigh for $25K, this is a scarce second chance to redeem yourself. Or, you could just sit there and fumble with your price guide while another one of these cool trucks gets snatched up by someone who knows how to spell V-A-L-U-E!

Based on the shortened version of the Dodge Ram platform, the Ramcharger model began as a regular cab truck with an extended roof, an extra seat and a covered cargo area. It proved extremely useful to people who needed the towing and all terrain capability of the Ram in a vehicle that could haul a lot more passengers or equipment. Recently frame up restored, this Ramchargers all original body panels were repainted in traditional Plum Crazy Purple and given a white bumblebee style stripe for a look that's both unique and fitting. There isn't a dent or crease anywhere to be found on its Rhino inspired body; and the smooth purple paint has a great looking finish that shines much better than the basecoat/clearcoat paint it wore from the factory.

At the front of the truck, a familiar silver and stainless trimmed Dodge grille that evolved from 60s era Mopars is bordered by bright square headlights and sits above the trucks great looking 21 year old front bumper. Above the grille, a nice looking satin finished “Dodge” emblem that still resembles the font used by the division today sits below an awesome highly detailed Ram hood ornament that perfectly personifies this capable trucks spirit. On the profile of this Ramcharger, square sculpted purple panels feature clear square front marker lights, chrome factory door handles and well-maintained chrome single arm factory mirrors that were designed to reduce damage to the trucks door sheetmetal in the event that they are knocked off. On the front fenders, the trucks original “Ramcharger” emblems feature charging chrome rams and correct “150” inlays, and below the doors, black aftermarket steps add both form and function to the design. At the top of the truck, a satin black roof rack sits above a factory roof vent, glass that presents as new and body matched vent visors that shield the front passengers from rain. At the back of the truck, a light weight fiberglass lift gate sits below a body color drip molding and features bold white and orange “Dodge Ram” lettering beneath a centered orange Rams head decal. At the bottom of the lift gate, a second original chrome bumper presents well, and at either side of the lift gate, vertically oriented tail lights look good enough to be showroom fresh.

Pop the hood on this lifted truck and you'll find an original Chrysler LA 318 V8 that looks good and runs great. It's not a grossly overpowered mill, but rest assured, this stalwart Chrysler engine has enough torque to get this monster 4x4 out of any tight situation or tow just about any toy you can imagine. At the top of the motor, the trucks original black air cleaner feeds an original Holley 2 barrel carburetor. Below that carburetor, original black valve covers sit above the trucks original cast iron exhaust manifolds. Behind the carburetor, a correct points distributor sends power from a factory electronic ignition to the cylinders through black plug wires. In front of the motor, the alternator, power steering pump and Chrysler tagged A/C compressor are all turned by new belts; and a correct radiator sends and receives water through good looking hoses. Extremely reliable and the epitome of 'easy to work on' this clean engine bay is complete from the trucks original hood insulation all the way to its black oil pan.

Built on the solid Ram truck frame, this old school SUV features part time four wheel drive and enough ground clearance to ford most creeks without a problem. The trucks original Chrysler Loadflite 727 automatic transmission sends power through an NP-241 transfer case to a Dana 44 front axle and 12 bolt rear end with 3.23 gears that serve as an awesome combination for off-roading and inclement weather. Power steering is a welcome addition when you're driving a truck with tires this big, and power brakes that consist of discs up front and drums in the rear bring all the mass to a quick and uneventful stop. The trucks suspension is a rugged solid axle and leaf spring set up at both the front and back which has been equipped with both add a leafs and lift blocks for a raised stance and even more off road capability. Exhaust is handled by a welded OEM system that runs into one muffler and exits through two tail pipes that are capped with stainless tips, and at the back of the truck, a frame mounted hitch is already wired for trailer brakes and ready to tow the toy of your choosing. The bottom of this truck looks just as you would expect a 21 year old truck to look and proves that while this truck is exceptionally nice, it's not something that you should be afraid to get dirty. At the corners, 15 inch factory steel wheels come equipped with satin finished dog dish hubcaps, matching stainless trim rings and oversized 31x10.50 Courser AWT radials.

Inside this Ramcharger you'll find a spacious and comfortable environment with enough room to be the vehicle of choice for family adventures. The firm front captain's chairs and rear bench seat are wrapped in nice two-tone gray covers that show relatively little wear given this trucks age and purpose. New looking black carpet runs from under the dash to a bright stainless trim piece at the foot of the rear bench seat and is protected by black carpeted mats. In front of the driver, the trucks square dash wears a warp free gray dash pad and contains clear round gauges, controls for the heating and air conditioning and a correct Chrysler AM/FM radio. In the center of the dash a lighted message center displays warning lights and details about the trucks four wheel drive system above a simple black shifter for the four wheel drive system. At the sides of the seats, gray molded plastic door panels show very little weathering and house chrome handles for the doors along with switches for the power door locks and power windows. Connecting the driver to the road is a black steering wheel with a Chrysler pentastar logo that sits in front of a chrome column mounted shifter and buttons for the trucks cruise control. Behind the rear seat a bright and airy cargo area is covered by more good looking black carpet and holds an Invicta 235/75/15 spare tire.

Fully sorted and ready to roll, this Plum Crazy Purple Dodge Ramcharger is one very cool SUV that's still every bit as functional today as it was in when it drove off the showroom floor. It would be right at home sitting beside other vintage Mopars at your favorite Friday night dive or conquering your latest Saturday afternoon outdoor adventure. Super nice Ramchargers are getting pretty hard to find and our last one sold in less than 24 hours, don't miss your chance to own this one. Call now!
