Description

Sometimes lightning strikes twice.

It's an alarming reality for humans, a fascinating concomitant for the world's greatest architecture, and an exciting phenomenon for businesses. In 1966, Ford electrified Le Mans with a dominating 1-2-3 finish at the world's oldest active endurance race. Fifty years later, Ford struck again earning 1st and 3rd in the LM GTE-Pro Class at the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans. And now, if you're a serious GT enthusiast who couldn't capture lighting in a bottle the first time around, here's YOUR second chance to strike!

Everyone knows how exclusive these cars are. Dearborn originally planned to assemble just 1,000 copies of its newest world-beating icon. However, after receiving roughly 6,500 complete applications before the first GT even rolled out of the shop, they extended their buildout by three years and 350 units. But that's not to say the storm has dissipated. In fact, Ford has continued to heat demand with precipitous product enhancements, high-profile participation in motorsports and tantalizing special editions. That's where this fully-optioned, 7.6-mile GT Carbon Series really starts to shine.

SAME SUPERCAR, MORE TRACK

Building on the success of the phenomenal 2017 Ford GT and more extreme 2017 Ford GT Competition Series, Carbon Series number 67 is a lightweight tour de force that's been housed in a climate controlled showroom since being delivered to its first and only owner. Believed to be one of only 123 Ford GTs produced for the 2019 model year, it's one of even fewer GTs equipped with the stylish Carbon Red Graphics Package. Designed to maximize the GT's already incredible performance, the Carbon Series shaves a substantial 40 pounds off the car's total curb weight. Those savings are achieved through the use of titanium exhaust, a polycarbonate rear window and carbon fiber wheels that are finished with titanium lugs.

SPEAKING OF TRACK

Created by a skunkworks of 12 Ford employees as a symbol of technological rebirth for one of America's greatest automakers, the Ford GT is, first-and-foremost, a racecar. Every aspect of the machine's carbon fiber monocoque construction was dictated by aerodynamics and downforce. Not only does carbon fiber shave weight, it also optimizes air flow around the car's teardrop-shaped cockpit with the help of dramatic flying buttress C-pillars that would've been impossible to construct from alloy. The concept of performance-driven design was pushed even further when the team eschewed potential V12 and V8 powertrains for the space and freedom afforded by Ford's compact EcoBoost V6. That said, the GT's 3.5 liter isn't exactly the same mill you'll find roaming the streets in Lincolns and F-150s. Founded on a common Duratec 35 block, the engine makes excellent use of an aluminum intake, larger turbos, unique cams, strengthened rotating components and custom, dry-sump lubrication to spin 647 horsepower through a 7-speed Getrag dual-clutch transaxle. Aluminum space frames ride a fully adjustable pushrod suspension that can vary by two inches. Stops are achieved with 6 and 4-piston Brembo calipers, which squeeze a quartet of carbon ceramic rotors. And with the aid of an active rear spoiler, production GTs are good for three second 0-60 sprints and a solid 1.11gs on the skid pad.

BENCH RACERS BEWARE

That's all well and good, but numbers are just numbers outside of the track, right? Enter Chip Ganassi Racing, the only race team in history to win the Daytona 500, the Indianapolis 500, the Brickyard 400 and the Rolex 24 at Daytona in one season. Chip Ganassi Racing signed a 4-year agreement with Ford to field the company's GTE-Pro GTs in World Endurance Championship events. And, fifty years after Henry Ford II whipped Ferrari, the new Ford GT racecar achieved a Class Win in its debut at the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans. Factory GT efforts wrapped up in 2019 after a 24 Hours of Daytona win and two IMSA GTLM Second Place Overall finishes. But the legacy continues with Ford's 700 horsepower, track-only GT Mk II, privateer teams already claiming podiums, and the road-going GT's 216 MPH Ford top speed record.

While Chip Ganassi Racing's win at the 24 Hours of Daytona is significant in its own right, it factors uniquely into the history of Ford GT Carbon Edition number 67. Astute fans of sportscar competition will remember that Ford GTE-Pro GT number 67, piloted by veteran driver Richard Westbrook, was the car that put the team in victory lane. So then, it would make sense that, when Ford built Mr. Westbrook a production GT, it'd be serial number 67 of the most capable street car the firm has ever created. In addition to securing Ford's Daytona win and 3rd place at Le Mans, Westbrook has achieved success as a Porsche Factory Driver, a Corvette Factory Driver and an FIA GT2 champion. After a short stint bolstering Aston Martin's 2020 GTE Pro efforts, Westbrook is currently signed to pilot entries for Glickenhaus Racing in FIA World Endurance Championship's new Le Mans Hypercars class.

EXCLUSIVITY DEFINED

Ownership privileges for the original 2017-2019 Ford GT production run required potential buyers to complete an application process that included a 24-month no-sale clause, automatically making an instant collector car even more exclusive. Originally planned for the final year of second-generation GT production, Carbon Edition number 67 is certainly one of the most capable versions of the GT to date. In addition to weight reducing performance hardware, the car features exposed carbon fiber A-pillars, exposed carbon fiber lower panels and an exposed carbon fiber stripe. Inside, unique seat stitching joins unique steering wheel thread and anodized paddle shifters to up driver engagement. Every ounce counts in a thoroughbred track car, so, as with all Carbon Edition GTs, number 67's competition-focused cockpit makes do without cupholders and a driver's storage bin. Unlike the Competition Series it effectively replaced, the Carbon Series retains factory audio and factory air conditioning. And a $15K Carbon Red Graphics Package adds tailored flash via red mirror caps, a red accent stripe and red brake calipers.

History often repeats itself, sometimes in spectacular fashion. If you missed out on purchasing the supercar of your dreams straight off the showroom floor, allow us to provide a rare second chance! RK Motors takes pride in being a premier destination for all things Ford GT. From the historic GT40s in our private collection to the exceptional GTX1 at the front door of our showroom, we've experienced the excitement generated by Ford's legendary halo firsthand. This 7.6-mile GT Carbon Edition represents a rare opportunity to own what some enthusiasts consider the ultimate collector car. Strike while the iron is hot!
