Choice Bel Air Resto-Mod LS376/480 V8 Automatic Ford 9-inch A/C Leather
When it comes to nearly universal appeal, few cars bring it quite like a Chevrolet tri-five. While a lot of classics place an emphasis on speed, style or some other singular piece of the puzzle, the quintessential Chevy continues to thrive as a malleable definition of everything to everyone. With almost all the dials turned past 11, this tailored Bel Air resto-mod is a car that'll fulfill the needs of virtually any enthusiast. And, from its smooth Chevrolet Performance LS3 and proven 4L70E drivetrain to its choice Street Rod Garage chassis and custom leather upholstery, pretty much any spectator with a pulse can find something to admire!
THE BEST YEAR
The subject of a professional, ground-up build that was completed by Mount Ulla, North Carolina's CWC Custom Fabrication, this '56 is definitely built for keeps! From casual glances to long looks, the car exudes a sense of quality that comes from countless hours of work and serious credit card bills. With straight panels and impressive panel fitment, its body sets the standard for what to expect from the rest of the build. There are no notable modifications, aside from deep black two-stage that would've been unimaginable in the mass-production world in 1955. And overall, this slick resto-mod is right at home turning heads on the road OR logging points at a show.
Not surprisingly, this Chevy's sinister pigment creates a fabulous foundation for a select array of mirrored bolt-ons. At the front of the car, a polished bumper props polished guards in front of a polished grille, amber parking lamps and modern, stainless-trimmed headlights. At the top of that grille, a Chevrolet-branded hood centers a correct Jetbird in front of tinted glass, polished wipers and polished frames. At the base of that glass, a silky profile hangs black-tinged Speed Spears between polished mirrors, traditional door handles and classy Bel Air scripts. And at the back of that profile, a second polished bumper floats two more guards beneath LED taillights and an ornate trunk crest.
THE BEST POWER
Pop this coupe's steel hood and you'll find 6.2 liters of divine GM small block. Officially known as the Chevrolet Performance LS376/480, that trusty engine twists a respectable 495 horsepower into 473 lb./ft. of pavement-slaying torque. At the top of the block, a remote filter cone slinks breeze into a proven GM throttle body. Proven Holley fuel injection lines a lightweight GM intake, which feeds rectangular-port L92-style heads. Quality American Autowire wiring fires hot Taylor plug wires. A nodular crank, powdered connecting rods and hypereutectic pistons provide stout 10.7 to 1 compression. A hydraulic roller cam maximizes intake efficiency. Speaking of breathing, that smooth valvetrain funnels spent gases through GM LS exhaust manifolds. There's a beefy aluminum radiator that's slid between a dressed support, a machined cap and dual SPAL puller fans. A CVF Racing serpentine drive spins a muted alternator opposite a muted AC compressor. And, as you likely deduced from our high-resolution photos, the fresh mill rolls in a smooth, body-matched frame that's finished with niceties like a Holley oil pan, Lokar hood supports and classy Chevrolet valve covers.
THE BEST DRIVE
Bottom-side, the spry small block funnels torque through a proven 4L70E 4-speed. That drivetrain hangs in a fully boxed Street Rod Garage chassis that was CNC cut and professionally backwelded for both precision and strength. Those powder-coated bones are led by a fully adjustable Street Rod Garage Force independent front-clip that's finished with a big sway bar, tubular control arms and QA-1 Aluma Matic coil-overs. Opposite that clip, a fully adjustable Street Rod Garage Force 4-link, complete with two more QA-1 Aluma Matic coil-overs, secures a 9-inch pumpkin around billet Big Ford Ends, a Truetrac differential and 31-spline axles. That curve-carving suspension is stopped by hydroboosted Wilwood calipers, which squeeze a quartet of 12-inch drilled and slotted rotors. Turns come courtesy of power rack-and-pinion steering. Fluids get shuffled by a custom fuel tank and a series of stainless lines. Custom stainless exhaust centers throaty Magnaflow mufflers in front of polished resonators. And all that mechanical goodness rolls on chromed American Racing Torq Thrust Ms, which spin 255/40ZR17 Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs in front of 255/50ZR17 Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs.
THE BEST RIDE
Pop the doors and you'll find a choice custom interior that was installed by Leon Brown's Custom Auto Upholstery of Concord, North Carolina. Modern bucket seats wear high quality leather that's both plush and supportive at the same time. A body-matched dash wraps striking carbon fiber accents around Dakota Digital VHX telemetry and controls for Vintage Air conditioning. A custom console continues that carbon fiber theme around a muted Lokar shifter and modern pioneer audio that's complete with GPS and a backup camera. Custom side panels anchor sculpted armrests amid billet handles and more carbon fiber. Premium carpet floats thick mats under a tilting Ididit column and billet Lokar pedals. And behind the passengers, a custom-upholstered trunk hides a relocated battery and the car's spare tire.
When it comes to maximizing the amount of metal your money buys, you simply can't go wrong with a world class tri-five. Thanks to a well-planned build that utilized top notch components, this legendary Chevy is fun, reliable and ready to turn heads. Looking for a stylish classic that commands respect on both the boulevard and the show field? Look no further than this sophisticated Bel Air!
