Restored GTO Convertible Restomod 400 V8 Auto A/C Upgraded Suspension
The beloved GTO is a direct result of what happens when a renegade car division that's ran by busted-knuckle gearheads defies corporate culture, 'borrows' Ferrari's most coveted name and stages an octane-fueled war against crosstown rivals. It offered buyers the very real opportunity to walk in to a Pontiac showroom and, with the flip of a checkbook, purchase a one-way ticket to hot style and big performance. Today, classics like this cool resto-mod, featuring a massaged big block, a tough 700R4 and crisp aesthetics, are perfect cruisers for enthusiasts who want to prowl the show field and burn up the streets. Looking to add a little fun to your weekends? Time to feel the glory of an old school muscle car!
POLAR GOAT
Fully sorted and ready to roll, this clean cruiser is the beneficiary of detailed restoration that mixes polished poise with proven athleticism. All that lovable charm was carefully sealed in a correct layer of reposeful Polar White two-stage. And today, the car rolls as uniquely familiar Americana that's easy to live with and even easier to look at! The exhibit kicks off with a prominent Pontiac grille that hangs bold “G T O” lettering between stainless-trimmed headlights and ornate 'gunsight' parking lamps. A familiar Ram Air Hood founds a factory tachometer in front of stainless-trimmed glass and tight White cloth. A sculpted profile floats delightfully '70s “GTO” decals amid polished mirrors, factory door handles and tight rocker armor. And at the back of the car, an imposing wing shades a polished bumper, polished exhaust tips and a third “GTO” callout that balanced on factory taillights.
PONTIAC 400
Hoist the hood and you'll find 400 cubic inches of dressed Pontiac power that's been professionally rebuilt by the pros at Dallas, Texas' HCC Performance. That tough Turquoise terror breathes through a polished air cleaner, which funnels wind through a coated Edelbrock 4-barrel that's wired with stainless lines and a snazzy Edelbrock filter. Speaking of Edelbrock, a lightweight Edelbrock intake feeds cast iron heads that tilt bold Pontiac valve covers under polished Moroso breathers. Those heads are framed with coated Hooker long-tubes and bright Taylor plug wires, which are sequenced to a polished coil and hot Pertronix ignition. A billet serpentine drive spins a polished alternator opposite a polished AC compressor. In front of those grooves, quick electric puller fans dress a big aluminum radiator. And details like a polished brake booster and a reliable Optima battery trim out first rate aesthetics.
FOR THE DRIVE
Bottom-side, power flows through a tough 700R4 4-speed that, like the car's buff engine, was completely rebuilt by the pros at Dallas, Texas' HCC Performance. Naturally, that gearbox twists a tough 12-bolt axle. That drivetrain rides an upgraded 4-link rear-clip that cages a stiff sway bar between quality Bilstein shocks and tubular Global West control arms. Up front, a second beefy sway bar leads fluid power steering, two more Bilsteins and more tubular Global West control arms. At the corners, four power-assisted calipers clamp four drilled and slotted discs. At the center of the floors, a throaty exhaust system roars through Flowmaster dual-chamber mufflers. And everything rolls on handsome Pontiac Rally IIs, which spin 225/70R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As around stainless trim rings, red-trimmed lugs and red PMD center caps.
FOR THE RIDE
Swing the doors and you'll find a correct vinyl interior that, naturally, feels like the perfect place to spend a warm summer evening. Front and center, plush factory buckets feature factory headrests. The 400's vitals are registered by crisp Pontiac Rally gauges, which ride next to controls for modern air conditioning and modern Pioneer audio. Fade-free carpet anchors a stylish console around a short factory shifter. At the sides of the car, integrated kick speakers lead ornate door panels. And the driver spins a thick wood grip around polished spokes.
It's no wonder GM's excitement division enjoys such huge popularity despite being over a decade removed from the new car market. With storied power, unmatched swagger and enough curb appeal to make every day picturesque, Pontiac muscle cars feature a perfect combination of form and functionality.
