Choice Bel Air Resto-Mod LS V8 6-speed C4 Suspension Air Conditioning
Over the past few years, many of the world's finest tri-fives have graced our RK Motors Charlotte showroom. According to sales, '55-'57 resto-mods are often considered our best offerings. And it's easy to see why when something like this incredible Bel Air, a car that backs modern LS power with a full aftermarket chassis and timeless two-tone upholstery, gets busy casting bright glares in our sedate photo booth. Searching for a sizzling custom that mixes proven mechanicals with neck-snapping appeal? Congratulations, you've found your next classic!
EVERYTHING'S BETTER IN RED
Sealed in a superb shade of red two-stage, this authentic Bel Air is the beneficiary of a body-off, nut-and-bolt restoration that's both clean and precise. That detailed rebuild massaged the car's enticing sedan profile into literal feet of show worthy surfacing. That surfacing is founded on sinuous panels that are solid and well aligned. And today, this Chevy rolls as a fully sorted cruiser that mixes polished tradition with rich customization!
Not surprisingly, this five-seven's brilliant pigment creates a fabulous foundation for a select array of choice bolt-ons. At the front of the car, a heavy Dagmar Bumper guards a requisite Bel Air grille beneath chrome-trimmed halogen headlights. An ornate Chevrolet crest joins clear parking lamps to lead familiar Speer Bullet Spoons in front of a smoked and stainless-trimmed greenhouse. That glass, cleared by polished RainGear wipers, tops a traditional Bel Air profile that's finished with polished mirrors, hot cross-flags and guarded factory handles. And at the back of the car, a second ornate bumper frames an electric antenna, more Bel Air garnish and bright halogen tail lamps.
LS-SWAP THE WORLD
Enact this Chevy's coated hood supports and you'll find 5.7 liters of proven GM small block that spins smooth horsepower into miles of open-road reliability! At the front of that aluminum mill, cleanly integrated Cold Air Induction spins wind into a polished tube, which fronts a factory GM throttle body. A body-matched intake sends a finely tuned mixture of fuel and air into hot 243 heads, which float factory coils under ornate fuel rail covers. Those LS6-spec heads cap a stock, factory-spec rotating assembly. A polished serpentine drive spins modern power steering under a polished alternator and a polished AC compressor. Fresh Dragon Fire plug wires split coated shorty headers. A big Be Cool radiator twins a big electric puller fan with a massaged, body-matched support. And details like a polished brake booster, polished fluid reservoirs and a smooth firewall ensure first-class presentation.
CORVETTE INFLUENCE
Park this Bel Air on a lift and you'll find a super clean undercarriage that's nice enough to show and tough enough to go. The choice motor twists a tough Tremec 6-speed, which spins a proven Dana 44 differential. That unconventional pumpkin pushes a full aftermarket chassis, which rides a full fourth-generation Corvette suspension. Turns come courtesy of power rack-and-pinion steering. Quick stops are a cinch thanks to power-assisted discs. Custom exhaust threads aluminized pipes through an H-shaped crossover, crisp Flowmaster FlowFX mufflers and short stainless tips. And at the corners, polished Billet Specialties Stilettos spin 225/40ZR18 Sumitomo HTR ZIIIs in front of 275/40R20 Nexen Roadian HPs.
TRADITIONAL IS GOOD
The spectacular cockpits in second-generation Bel Airs need no introduction, but here goes. Depress the button on this sedan's mirrored door handle and you'll find a gorgeous Black and Red interior that stays very true to the car's factory scheme. Broad bench seats, which recline for the comfort of the car's driver and front passenger, feature supple, silver-piped hides that fit well and feel great. Beneath those seats, fade-free carpet frames a red-trimmed Hurst shifter. At the edges of that rug, retro door panels anchor small armrests and stainless handles beneath Onyx Black toppers. A curvaceous dash hangs hardware for Vintage Air climate control beneath clean Dakota Digital VHX telemetry and RetroSound direct-fit audio. And the driver spins a bowtie-branded Billet Specialties Vintec wheel around a polished, titling column.
Unique, lust worthy and ready to cruise, this awesome Bel Air is an excellent combination of classic street rod looks and proven resto-mod performance. This car has the potential to pull down serious trophies and can politely cruise to the house 30 minutes later. And with top-notch craftsmanship and a roster of first class components, it's poised to impress in either of those realms!
