Whoever says you can't own a nice, six-figure Mopar without a framed Broadcast Sheet and a call to Galen Govier obviously hasn't been to our 78,000 square foot showroom. As dedicated gearheads who sweat 30 weight motor oil, we strive to deliver both the finest investment grade metal on the market AND world class muscle cars that literally define the term “pro-tourer”. Take, for example, this wicked 1969 Dodge Charger R/T. Although it hasn't had a nut-and-bolt rotisserie restoration, it is an exceptionally well done piece that's certainly one of the coolest pro-tourers on the market. Although it doesn't have coveted documentation or a stack of plastic trophies, it does have a massaged 440 cubic inch Magnum V8 and a tough 4-speed drivetrain that'll eat a concours showpiece for lunch and attack a modern sports car for dinner. And, although it hasn't been inspected by many white glove judges, you can rest assured the phrase “merely adequate” is not a part of its description. In short, if you're looking for some old school Detroit metal that wraps some of the nastiest muscle your money can buy in one of the best looking packages to ever prowl American streets, this sinister Charger is just your style!

THE BEAUTY OF THE BEAST

After spending most of its life in the dry California air this awesome B-Body was the perfect starting point for an impressive frame-up build that mixes a killer big block engine with classic MoPar attitude. The car's super star body, which includes solid-closing doors on top of better-than-factory panel alignment, was stripped to bare metal, massaged into shape and thoroughly block-sanded into a collection of smooth surfaces. Once those surfaces were completely clean and fully prepped, a rich coat of Jet Black base was sealed in thick and glossy clear. And today, this positively evil Charger sits as one super slick MoPar road warrior that features a perfect combination of no-nonsense looks and vicious street manners.

There's just something about a broad shouldered muscle car that appeals to pretty much everyone. Maybe it's their wow factor. Maybe it's the sense of strength they convey. Or maybe it's simply the surface development of their hard-edged, modernist panels. Whatever the case may be, this Charger carries all that classic Chrysler charm under a whole slew of details which highlight a clean and monochromatic appearance. At the front of the car's sculpted body, a prominent, dual-port grille hangs a requisite “Charger R/T” script between a body-width bumper, artfully hidden headlights and round marker lamps that sport old school fratzog emblems. Above that grille, a scalloped hood floats massaged turn indicators in front of tinted glass that's cased in bright stainless. At the sides of that glass, faceted body panels hang a factory mirror and an elaborate fuel filler amid traditional marker lights and traditional door handles. And at the back of those panels, a metallic Bumble Bee Stripe centers bold “R/T” call-outs on recessed taillights, a red-inlayed “R/T” emblem and a second body-width bumper.

BORED AND BUILT

When this sinister Dodge rumbled in to the RKM Performance Center it caused such a commotion that our entire staff came out of their offices just to check things out. When they tilted the car's long hood and found 440 cubic inches of rowdy Magnum V8 that's been bored .040 over and completely rebuilt, they certainly weren't disappointed! At the top of the storied mill, cold air snorkels thread wind into a Lokar-controlled FiTech throttle body that commands reliable electronic fuel injection. A coated intake feeds Edelbrock Performer RPM heads, which sandwich fluid COMP roller rockers between fabricated valve covers and a hot COMP Mutha Thumpr cam. At the front of that cam, a billet MSD distributor shoots fire through loomed MSD Super Conductor plug wires. Below those wires, wrapped and coated headers pump spent gases through custom, true-dual exhaust. A March serpentine drive spins a polished water pump behind a polished alternator and a polished AC compressor. A broad radiator hangs quick spinning puller fans between corrugated water tubes. Aesthetically, the Hemi Orange block provides an excellent complement to the car's smooth, body-matched engine bay. And details like braided lines, a Wilwood master cylinder and Eddie Motorsports hood supports add a little flash and function.

ADMIRE THE DRIVE

The storied Magnum mill sends thrust through a smooth GM 4L60E 4-speed. That tough transmission spins a traditional 8.75-inch Chrysler axle that's upfitted with an Auburn limited-slip differential and big, 3.91 gears. That awesome drivetrain pushes a thoughtfully upgraded suspension that features tubular control arms, a big sway bar and familiar RideTech coil-overs that are built with stiff Viking springs. 2.5-inch exhaust pipes spent gases through an X-shaped crossover and great sounding Flowmaster mufflers. Braking is handled by four electronically-boosted Wilwood calipers that clamp 20 pistons around 13-inch drilled and slotted rotors. Turns come courtesy of power rack-and-pinion steering. At the corners, custom Boze alloys, 18x10 inches up front and 19x12 inches out back, tuck neatly under three inch mini tubs. And everything, from this Dodge's big stainless fuel tank to its high-torque starter, is fully sorted and ready to go!

THE CORE OF THE CRUISE

Fully restored, and fully lined with high quality sound deadening material, this Charger's attractive vinyl interior is one of the best combinations of form and function to ever roll out of a Chrysler design studio. Traditional bench and bucket seats are both stylish and comfortable. A pliable, crack-free dash anchors modern telemetry next to controls for modern air conditioning and modern Alpine audio. A factory console frames a hearty B&M shifter. Clean door panels have been retrofitted with crisp Polk speakers, which sound great paired with the Polk speakers that line the car's package tray. And the driver spins a small diameter Grant steering wheel around a tilting Flaming River column.

With a tenacious big block, a smooth drivetrain and slick aesthetics, this super cool MoPar looks good and drives great! It's fast. It's fun. And best of all, your hard-earned money is buying a car that can actually do more than sit in a field and attract presumptuous experts. If you're in the market for some stunning Detroit metal that has the bare-knuckle muscle to back up its killer good looks, this Charger is your next classic!
