We don't need to sell you on the virtues of the second-generation C/K. You already know these trucks are attractive, timeless and universally cool. Luckily, your friends at RK Motors Charlotte have a real knack for finding standout builds. And, as a perfect blend of custom virtues and the kind of showstopping aesthetics that'll always be attractive to enthusiasts, this exceptional C10 is about as standout as it gets. Looking for a fun ride that's sure to turn heads? Take a close look at this killer bowtie!
GOODGUYS AND SHADES OF THE PAST
Commissioned by a diehard enthusiast who wanted to create a show stopping custom that blurred the lines between street rod and pickup, this Chevy is the product of a detailed, $300K build that wrapped a roster of high quality components in countless hours of skilled labor. A long way from the 1967 short wheelbase it began life as, Project Fifty/50 has hardly any surfaces that weren't carefully massaged for maximum display. After hours of precise metalwork, a solid fleetside profile was sealed in a striking combination of Almond and Black/Blue Pearl two-stage. And it all adds up to one sleek, eye-catching resto-mod that backs a Shades Of The Past Top 25 Award with three Goodguys Builder's Choice Awards!
The subdued and classy lines of Chevrolet's acclaimed Action Line trucks are early '60s conservative. And because they're so universal in appeal, they take to customization exceptionally well. The show starts with a tucked and vented bumper, dressed in Satin Silver, that centers familiar PIAA fog lights on a silver-trimmed valance. That valance seamlessly integrates Truck-Lite headlights at the sides of a black bowtie and bright amber parking lamps. Above those torches, a Cowl Induction Hood leads a capped and stainless-trimmed cowl, which fronts a tinted and black-trimmed greenhouse. That greenhouse stands a flush backlite between satin cab trim, murdered bowtie mirrors and shaved, remote-actuated doors. Classy C10 emblems join factory markers above Satin Silver rocker trim. A power-operated tonneau hides a custom upholstered bed. And a custom roll pan frames a shaved and smoothed tailgate, which flies color-keyed “CHEVROLET” lettering under more Satin Silver trim.
BIG BLOCK AND FUEL INJECTION
Built by the pros at Phoenix, Arizona's Klein Engines, this C10's 408 cubic inch big block backs fierce performance with menacing acoustics! At the top of the monochromatic mill, a custom, shotgun-style air cleaner supplies ample oxygen for reliable FAST electronic fuel injection. An aluminum intake feeds tough, cast iron heads, which tilt attractive, Chevrolet-branded valve covers behind dualled R2C Performance breathers. Combustion gets sparked by a hot MSD distributor, which jolts loomed Taylor plug wires. A muted March serpentine drive, tastefully branded with the truck's Project Fifty/50 moniker, spins a trusted Edelbrock water pump between a painted alternator and a painted AC compressor. Cooling is provided by a custom aluminum radiator, which aligns electric puller fans under a custom radiator shroud. Spent gases traverse coated shorty headers. The bright silver mill rumbles in a seamless engine bay that's finished with custom hood braces, a smoothed firewall and custom, hand-built hood supports. And naturally, that clean frame highlights a sea of first rate hardware that includes a polished dipstick, a billet brake reservoir, a deep oil pan and a quality FAST fuel pressure gauge.
MODERN AND CUSTOM
Park this pickup on a lift and you'll see where coveted red carpet flash transitions to proven engineering prowess. Torque gets dealt by a dressed 700R4 4-speed that makes excellent use of a lightweight aluminum driveshaft. Behind that tube, a narrowed 12-bolt spins a posi-traction differential around big, 3.73 gears. That smooth drivetrain rides a boxed and braced hammertone frame that's been seated on fully adjustable air bags. Massive torsion sway bars cage an independent front-clip and a truck arm rear-clip. Those bones get led by modern power rack-and-pinion steering. At the corners, electronically assisted Wilwood calipers cinch 20 pistons around a quartet of drilled and slotted rotors. Spent gases are managed by a custom exhaust system, which fashions three-inch, Mandrel bent pipes around a duo of coated mufflers. A custom stainless fuel tank, striped with LEDs, rides tight next to a power-operated tag bracket. And force meets the pavement through color-keyed MOZ Concours wheels, which spin 275/40R20 and 295/40R20 Toyo Proxes S/Ts inside raised and modified fenders.
LEATHER AND CLOTH
Pop this Chevy's electronic doors and you'll find a tasteful custom interior that was stitched in a cool combination of cloth and leather. A sculpted bench aligns nicely behind a stylish console, which stacks AutoMeter Pro-Comp Ultra-Lite accessory gauges in front of flush power window switches and controls for both the truck's tonneau and tag bracket. Custom, two-tone side panels hang crisp JBL speakers above plush carpet and custom, two-tone door jambs. A leather-lined C10 dash hangs AutoMeter Pro-Comp Ultra-Lite telemetry next to direct-fit audio and cool Classic Auto Air conditioning. And the driver spins a color-keyed '40 Ford steering wheel around floor-mount foot pedals and a tilting column.
Perpetually cool and mechanically fulfilling, this impressive Chevy is an appealing take on the traditional truck concept. Combining acute restoration with big power, it's simply spectacular from every angle. Don't miss your chance to own one awesome C10!
