Ground Up Built Camaro Restomod 6.2L LS3 V8 Auto A/C DSE Suspension
From era-defining tri-fives to world-beating sports cars, Chevrolet has always delivered approachable, all-American performance. With that in mind, modification has long been a hallmark of the Chevrolet brand, and turning a working man's car into a boss icon is a trick that's almost as old as hot rodding itself. For decades, southern California has been awash in killer street rods that are literally rolling pieces of art. Here in the American south, brazen moonshiners built a racing empire on the backs of upfitted grocery getters. And in the Midwest, our favorite OEMs are still elevating corporate powerplants into elite powerhouses. So, when we tell you this striking Camaro features a roster of choice pro-touring technology, it shouldn't be a big shock. When we tell you its storied GM power is actually 6.2 liters of fresh Chevrolet Performance LS3, it's sure to get your attention. And when you take a look at some high-resolution photos of what has to be one of the sharpest American muscle cars on the planet, we're sure you'll be ready to join the RK Motors family!
INFERNO OF STYLE
The beneficiary of a detailed, no expense spared restoration that's clean, crisp and ready to roll, this awesome F1 is a thoroughly modern take on undeniably timeless muscle! That eternal style glows through glossy Inferno Orange Metallic two-stage that was lifted straight from The General's modern performance color palette. At the front of that pigment, fluid Detroit Speed headlights frame a stainless-trimmed Rally Sport grille between a shaved header, a painted bumper and modern parking lamps. A requisite Cowl Induction Hood leads the eye to a stainless-trimmed greenhouse that's cleared by polished Detroit Speed wipers. A sculpted profile plants familiar second-generation Camaro mirrors above factory handles, factory markers and straight stainless rocker guards. And at the back of the car, a shaved decklid tilts a customized D80 spoiler over trick Marquez taillights and a second painted bumper.
LEGACY OF PERFORMANCE
Enact this Chevy's polished Billet Specialties hood supports and you'll find 6.2 liters of divine GM small block. Officially known as the Chevrolet Performance LS376/480, that trusty engine twists a respectable 495 horsepower into 473 lb./ft. of pavement-slaying torque! At the top of the block, a color-keyed Cold Air Intake slinks breeze through a stylized tube to a proven GM throttle body. Reliable electronic fuel injection lines a composite GM intake and rectangular-port L92-style heads. Factory coils fire hot AC Delco plug wires. A nodular crank, powdered connecting rods and hypereutectic pistons provide stout 10.7 to 1 compression. A hydraulic roller cam maximizes intake efficiency. Speaking of breathing, that smooth valvetrain funnels spent gases through coated shorty headers. There's a polished AutoRad radiator that's slid between a polished support, a polished tank and twin puller fans. A bright serpentine drive spins a polished alternator opposite a polished AC compressor. Polished Billet Specialties coil covers join a custom, Inferno Orange engine cowl to add a whole lot of style. And, as you likely deduced from our photos, the fresh mill rolls in a smooth, Inferno Orange frame that's finished with niceties like polished brake components, trick dipsticks and billet fender braces.
EASE OF ENJOYMENT
Behind the potent engine, a PerformaBuilt Level 3 4L60E 4-speed, built to handle 800 horsepower, spins a quality Yank 3200 converter that creates mega thrust right off the line. Power spins through a Hitchcock Autoworks driveshaft to a narrowed 12-bolt axle that, sourced directly from Detroit Speed, spins a tough Detroit Locker around big, 3.73 gears. That pumpkin rolls on a sturdy Detroit Speed QUADRALink suspension. That clip pushes a Detroit Speed hydroformed front-half. Performance is optimized by adjustable coil-over-shocks that feature remote reservoirs. That chassis, solidified by subframe connectors, skates under, you guessed it, predictable Detroit Speed mini tubs. Turns come courtesy of athletic power rack-and-pinion steering. Stops are provided by 14-inch drilled and slotted rotors, which get clamped by 6-piston Baer calipers. Custom exhaust funnels spent gases through a stainless Dynatech crossover and rowdy Flowmaster mufflers. A massive aftermarket fuel tank supplies plenty of 'go juice'. And at the corners, attractive Fikse Profils carry 275/35ZR18 front and 335/30ZR18 rear BF Goodrich g-Force T/As.
SENSE OF PLEASURE
Between the doors, Chuck Hanna of Mooresville, North Carolina's Hot Rod Interiors installed a virtual sea of custom leather. Front and center, a quartet of modern buckets wraps thick bolsters in emollient tan hides. Crisp Speedhut telemetry joins discreet Vintage Air climate control on a custom dash that was created by incorporating elements of both '68 and '69 Camaros. A custom, full-length console centers a modern shifter behind clever Speedhut accessory gauges and snazzy Pioneer touchscreen audio. Plush wool carpet bridges the gap between custom side panels that frame billet handles. Naturally, a custom headliner flows to a custom package tray, which fronts a custom-upholstered trunk that hides a Kicker amp, a Power Acoustik sub and an Optima gel cell battery. And the driver spins a classy Luisi steering wheel around a tilting Ididit column.
