Description

In a showroom full of outrageous pro-tourers and outsized muscle cars, there's something to be said about a fun hot rod, like this national award-winning Ford Model A, that's built with an eye toward tradition. Sure, the truck's multiple trophies prove that it can easily be taken to a show, impressively displayed and lovingly admired. But a roster of time tested upgrades means it can just as easily hit the highway and create a grand, one-car parade! That's right, as it sits, this Ford, with its plush interior, smooth drivetrain and posh, gothtastic body, is built to show AND enjoy. And what's better: you can have all that show and go for much less than the cost of building it yourself!

TWENTY-NINE-FORTY

The product of a detailed, ground-up build that backed many hours with many Benjamins, this sweet Ford is a timeless classic that's made to last. The truck's gloriously boxy profile is an all-steel affair that, sourced directly from the pros at Brookville Roadster, is centered on a custom, 6-inch-stretched cab. That steel looks especially cool garnished with a custom visor, massaged running boards, a massaged cowl, a custom grille shell and a custom roll pan -- all of which were perfected by Dave May of Genesis Fabrication. And a sophisticated coat of Mandarin Maroon two-stage, sourced directly for Ford's 1940 paint catalogue, incites glares and reflects trophies.

Thanks to first-rate detailing and an astute attention to detail, this hot rod really puts the “class” in classic. At the front of the truck, dual-mode Ford headlights ride a polished bar between a bright grille, a polished spreader and an elegant Ford emblem. At the sides of those torches, steel fenders trace a steel, four-piece hood in front of steel running boards. A tilting windshield hangs painted trim between polished mirrors, a tinted greenhouse, traditional door handles and polished New Port wipers. And out back, widened, all-steel fenders frame a painted wood bed, which centers a polished fuel filler on a stamped tailgate and modern LED taillights.

TWO WORDS: SMEDING PERFORMANCE

Professionally assembled by the pros at Smeding Performance, this pickup's 383 cubic inch small block is good for over 400 horsepower of smooth, pavement-scorching torque! At the top of that premium stroker motor, a polished air cleaner weaves wind into a steady stream of octane that flows through a coated Summit carburetor. That carb, wired with polished lines, an electric choke and a coated Edelbrock pump, feeds a bright Edelbrock Performer EPS intake. That intake rides between a choice roller valvetrain, which caps lightweight aluminum heads. Those polished heads tilt chromed covers and bright breathers over a COMP Thumpr roller cam. Combustion gets sparked by an MSD Pro-Billet distributor, which makes excellent use of a PerTronix Flame-Thrower coil and loomed MSD Super Conductor plug wires. Pliable V-belts spin a polished compressor opposite a chromed alternator. Cooling is provided by a proven Walker radiator. Spent gases traverse coated Sanderson headers. The Jet Black mill rumbles in a glossy, body-matched engine bay that folds polished hood hardware in front of a recessed firewall. And naturally, that clean frame highlights a sea of first-rate hardware that includes polished tanks, polished mounts, a polished oil pan and a high-torque mini starter.

NON-TRADITIONAL TREADING

While this Ford might look traditional it is, first and foremost, a world class street rod. That means every inch of its style rolls on thoroughly modern hardware that was engineered from the ground up to combine the best aspects of head-turning aesthetics and modern performance. The foundation for those great dynamics is a stretched Total Cost Involved chassis that wraps a full roster of Urethane bushings in crisp Mandarin Maroon two-stage. At the center of those bones, a cooled 700R4 4-speed, sourced directly from GearStar, pushes power to a tough Currie 9-inch that's built with a posi-traction differential, 3.50 gears and 31-spline Moser axles. That drivetrain rides a polished 4-bar rear-clip that's finished with adjustable VariShock coil-overs. That clip pushes a polished 4-bar front-half that's finished with a dropped axle, needle bearing king pins and a Durant mono-leaf. Turns come courtesy of manual rack-and-pinion steering. Stops are provided by four Wilwood calipers, which employ a Wilwood master cylinder and a Wilwood proportioning valve to squeeze four drilled and slotted rotors. 2.5-inch exhaust threads a big X-pipe, deep Flowmaster Hushpowers and polished stainless tips. Motivation is provided by a custom, 14-gallon fuel tank. And at the corners of the chassis, muted Torq Thrust IIs spin retro-style Michelins under lined fenders that have been skillfully matched to the truck's striking body.

SIMPLY CUSTOM

Between the doors, a custom cockpit wraps vintage simplicity in modern acoustics. Front and center, a body-matched dash hangs sporty So-Cal Speed Shop telemetry, complete with a GPS speedometer, above So-Cal knobs and Lokar foot pedals. A reclining Glide bench stretches plush leather under tight, color-keyed stitching and modern, three-point belts. A polished Lokar shifter joins a polished E-brake on Dynaliner insulation and German Square Weave carpet. At the edges of that carpet, polished handles dot custom leather side panels. Both heat and air flow through Classic Auto Air climate control. A Bluetooth-capable sound system, complete with a big subwoofer and a hidden Custom Autosound head unit, makes excellent use of fresh Painless Wiring. And the driver stays connected to the road through a chopped '40 Ford steering wheel that laps a modern, tilting column.

You really can't ask for a cooler classic than this 1929 Ford. Featuring an unbeatable combination of proven technology and authentic good looks, it's the perfect car for any enthusiast who wants a top-notch build without spending two years and six figures achieving it.
