Description

With big '60s Chevys being highly desirable collectables in factory-correct form, it takes quite a bit of nerve to pull the gloves off and 'frankenstein' a killer pro-tourer. But, as you'll see, the results are definitely worth the six-figures and countless hours of labor it required to finish this amazing Bel Air custom! Wrapping 632 cubic inches of iron Dart big block in silky aesthetics and completely custom mechanicals, this national award winning bowtie possesses the kind of performance and style that literally defines 'one-of-a-kind'. Ready for a first class build that combines everything great about front row Goodguys customs with modern motorsports technology? Check out this killer bowtie bubble top!

STUNNING STREET ROD STYLE

This slick Chevrolet is the product of an extensive, ground-up build that wears an absolutely superb combination of black and Toyota Speedway Blue pigment thanks to the pros at Taylorsville, North Carolina's Muscle Car Accessories. Highlighting better-than-factory alignment and superstar detailing, that paint is split by dashing chrome trim that was professionally plated by Paul's Chrome Plating of Evans City, Pennsylvania. That trim traces a solid Georgia body that flashes flat reflections through high-gloss clear. And throughout the past decade, this alluring Bel Air has stormed the national show scene on its way to earning 13 Best of Show awards and an honorary T-shirt feature!

The greatest thing about building a customized fifth-generation Chevy full-size is: the understated style most street rod enthusiasts strive for is pretty much standard factory fare. At the front of this hot hardtop, a chromed grille hangs a quartet of modern headlights above clear parking lamps and a tucked, filled and shaped bumper. A custom steel hood stretches custom lip molding in front of a 4-inch cowl that's both attractive and fully functional. A filled cowl panel props polished wipers in front of elegant stainless trim, which shapes smoked glass. Below that trim, the car's timeless profile has been stripped of everything but chromed side spears, stylish “Bel Air” scripts and traditional door handles. And at the back of those spears, chrome-trimmed LEDs illuminate a shaved, monochromatic valance above a second tucked, filled and shaped bumper.

SIX HUNDRED THIRTY-TWO

Hoist this Chevy's sculpted hood and you'll find 632 cubic inches of custom Dart big block that twists stout 10.2 to 1 compression into 1,015 dyno-proven horsepower and a massive 875 lb./ft. of tire torching torque! Carefully assembled and expertly detailed, that brutal stoplight slayer breathes through a custom cowl induction air cleaner, which caps a 1,250 cfm 4-pot that was sourced directly from AED Performance. A perfect combination of air and 93-octane flows from a polished Pro-Filer Performance intake to polished Pro-Filer 12 degree cylinder heads. Those heads tilt custom valve covers between Jesel roller rockers, Jesel roller lifters and billet breathers. Inside the Dart Big M iron, a Callies Magnum crank pushes quality JE pistons. Hot MSD ignition sequences fire through an MSD Pro-Billet distributor and loomed Taylor plug wires. Spent gases roar through bundles of coated headers that were custom fabricated by famed North Carolina hot rodder Ken Thompson. Charge comes courtesy of a polished alternator that, like the car's polished AC compressor and Polished Edelbrock water pump, spins a polished Billet Specialties Tru Trac accessory drive. Cooling is provided by an aluminum Flex-A-Lite radiator that's dressed with a polished cap, a polished tube and electric puller fans. And the car's custom engine bay is tricked to the max, with items like braided hoses, polished reservoirs and a liquid-filled AED Performance fuel pressure gauge adding both form and function.

STOCK CAR INSPIRED

We've said it time and time again, and the old adage still proves true. A pro-tourer simply isn't an authentic pro-tourer unless its significant power enhancements are augmented by significant chassis hardware. That's the only way 100% of the car's performance potential will ever be realized. This Bel Air's spry big block is, first and foremost, augmented by a custom-fabricated perimeter chassis that was, like the aforementioned headers, pieced together by former Holman & Moody employee Ken Thompson. At the center of those tubes, a Tremec TKO600 5-speed makes excellent use of a .82 overdrive. Speaking of gears, a smoothed and dressed Moser 12-bolt seats a posi-traction differential and 3.37 cogs inside a NASCAR-style rear-clip that's finished with mini tubs, a heavy duty sway bar and double-adjustable QA-1 coil-overs. Turns come courtesy of a power-assisted, NASCAR-style gearbox, which rides inside a NASCAR-style front-clip that's finished with a second heavy duty sway bar and more double-adjustable QA-1 coil-overs. At the corners, red Wilwood calipers squeeze 20 pistons around drilled and slotted rotors. Spent gases flow into coated, custom-fabricated pipes, which angle thin mufflers in front of tailored rockers that hug rowdy, NASCAR-style boom tubes. Miles of smiles are supplied by a 25-gallon fuel tank. Power meets the pavement through polished Budnik Ice, which spin 245/45ZR18 Goodyear Eagle F1s in front of 275/45ZR20 Goodyear Eagle F1s. And this Chevy's undercarriage is so superbly detailed that every stainless bolt has literally been cut to fit and meticulously polished on every angle.

STYLISH AND CLASSY

Swing this Chevy's doors and you'll spy a stylish leather cockpit that was stitched by Lexington, North Carolina's Ray Hester. Custom leather hides join serious Simpson harnesses to dress a quartet of customized SCAT Procar buckets. From the driver's perch, a glossy dash hangs an impressive array of AutoMeter C2 telemetry above Wilwood foot pedals and controls for Vintage Air conditioning. Fade-free carpet stacks a custom steel console, complete with a traditional Hurst shifter, on thick sound insulation and a flat floor that's courtesy of the body's custom channeling. Leather side panels center billet handles in front of modern power windows. An 8-point roll cage, complete with a removable harness bar, traces a sculpted headliner. The driver spins a polished and half-wrapped steering wheel around a tilting Ididit column. And behind the passengers, a fully upholstered trunk hides the car's relocated battery.

This incredible Bel Air is the kind of car that runs hard and wins trophies. Everyone loves a nice Chevy full-size, but some are A LOT nicer than others. Searching for an awesome custom to enjoy for years to come? You've officially found your next classic!
