Description

In the automotive world, there aren't many problems that better components won't solve. We all know that a big-block powered Chevelle is a hell of a car. But when you add an even BIGGER big block and a better suspension it becomes a lust worthy machine that'll please any crowd anywhere. This killer 1970 Chevelle Super Sport packs 502 cubic inches of ZZ502 crate motor and a drag strip ready suspension into one of the most compelling pieces of Chevy muscle we've seen in a long time.

Frame up restored in 2008, this Chevelle was repainted in its original GM code 14 Cortez Silver and features a correct black vinyl top and gloss black Super Sport racing stripes. The cars original body panels retain their factory correct gaps and were expertly prepared to be a smooth and wave-free canvas for the revealing silver paint. The result is a great finish that emphasizes the lines of this classic Chevrolet and gets the car instant attention wherever it goes. Up front, a new or re-chromed original bumper features a show quality finish that looks great against the cars silver body. At the edges of the bumper, correct marker lights sit below clear headlights that are housed in correct stainless bezels. Between those headlights, a traditional black Chevelle grille stands out against the cars silver body panels and displays a pristine white “SS” grille emblem. Above the grille, a correct cowl induction hood is dressed in black stripes and features correct hood pins and correct “Cowl Induction” badging. At the sides of the car, the Cortez Silver paint highlights powerful, bulging fenders while the stainless trimmed vinyl top provides onlookers with the visual impression of looking at a convertible. Stainless trim around the wheel openings looks as good as new and perfectly matches the cars optional stainless drip moldings. Factory fresh chrome door handles combine with chrome side mirrors to add form and function while original style “SS” front fender emblems sit above red “502” scripts that are subtle but intimidating. At the back of the car, a second show quality chrome bumper houses a great looking black SS insert which combines with the stainless trimmed black top and black Super Sport stripes to give the car a very balanced look. Two chrome trimmed tail lights sit above correct stainless exhaust tips and a pristine “Chevelle by Chevrolet” emblem occupies the passenger's side of the trunk lid. Glass is new all around and tinted as original, and weatherstripping is fresh and free of crack or tears. A lot of people say silver is a boring color, but this Chevelle has a ton of presence in Cortez Silver with black accents.

While the “502” fender emblems might be subtle, the ZZ502 big block crate motor under this cars hood is anything but. Sitting inside the functional cowl induction hood is a chrome air cleaner with a Spectre reusable air filter. Under that air filter a Holley 850 double pumper carburetor sends fuel from stainless fuel lines into an aluminum bowtie intake and aluminum oval-port, big-valve street heads. Those heads flow enough air to satisfy the demands of the hungry 4.47 inch bores and 4.00 inch stroke of the forged steel crankshaft. Forged steel rods that are connected to forged aluminum pistons crank out a 9.6:1 compression ratio and send spent exhaust gases into the exhaust system via coated long tube Hooker headers. Behind the Holley, an HEI distributor sends spark to the cylinders through GM Performance Parts wires to AC Delco Rapid Fire plugs. In front of the motor you'll find a heavy duty radiator with correct GM hoses and clamps, and a combination of billet and steel pulleys that turn fresh belts, a flex fan, a Power Master alternator and a compressor for the cars Vintage Air air conditioning system. The engine bay looks spectacular with a correctly finished silver hood closing on gloss black inner fenders, attractive black “502 Chevrolet” valve covers and correct engine bay decals.

Backing the massive ZZ502 is a super durable Turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed automatic transmission. These transmissions have bulletproof reliability and are the choice of many builders when it comes to high horsepower engines. Power flows from that TH400 to an infamous GM 12 bolt posi-traction rear end with stout 3.73 gears. This Chevelle was equipped with a heavy duty suspension from the factory and has seen further upgrades in the years since its restoration. Up front, a Performance Suspension Technology front end kit combines with Summit Racing drag racing shocks, factory power steering and factory power disc brakes to provide excellent braking and handling. Out back, strip tuned Moroso rear coils combine with Summit Racing drag racing shocks, a rear lift bar, polyurethane rear bushings, adjustable UMI Performance rear upper control arms and power drum brakes to provide excellent heavy footed launches. Fuel is sent to the motor through stainless fuel lines thanks to a frame mounted electronic fuel regulator and a Holley electronic fuel pump located just behind a fresh stainless steel fuel tank. A welded Flowmaster American Thunder exhaust system includes an H-pipe and looks to be about three inches in diameter from front to back. The floors of the car have been lightly undercoated for long-term durability on the street and the frame, which is held together by stainless hardware, retains a correct GM satin black appearance. Keeping the power planted to the ground is a set of 225/70 front and 275/60 rear BF Goodrich radials that are sealed to 14 inch front and 15 inch rear Super Sport wheels complete with correct center caps and correct stainless trim rings.

The fully restored code 755 black interior is correct to this Chevelle and features stainless trimmed strato bucket seats which show little to no signs of wear. In front of the seats, a great looking dash is free from cracking or warping and houses the traditional tachometer-speedometer-clock Chevelle gauge cluster. To the right of that gauge cluster is a correct radio and slick Vintage Air heater and air conditioner controls that look factory correct and fit perfectly. Below the dash, the showroom fresh silver trimmed console houses a horse shoe shifter for the TH400 and sits on black carpet that shares black seat belts with a tight black headliner. Under the passenger's seat you'll find a remote controlled Alpine CD player that can provide enough power to override the chugging big block 502 soundtrack if you ever tire of it. Front and rear door panels are in excellent shape and feature chrome handles, black “SS” emblems and stainless that flows from the dash to the rear of the car. In front of the driver, a correct black steering wheel is trimmed in silver and displays a white “SS” logo on its horizontal horn button. Out back, the trunk has been correctly restored with a coat of spatter paint, a new mat and spare tire, and correct trunk lid decals.

Documentation for this car includes a substantial amount of receipts from the cars restoration and modifications and an original General Motors build sheet.

This 1970 Chevelle SS is the total package and its 100% ready to rock. Thoroughly upgraded in every way, it's a car that can be a serious threat at the drag strip, yet is still livable enough for a Sunday afternoon ice cream run. Anyone can own a stock big-block Chevelle, but this one will put them all on the trailer and then happily DRIVE all the way back to your house; it's serious fun at a serious bargain. Call today!
