Take a good look at the stance of this 1970 Chevelle Super Sport and you can tell that it isn't just another 'me too' LS6 tribute. It's a powerful, curve carving machine that features modifications and custom bits in all the right places for an unbeatable combination of style, performance and driving comfort. This is what happens when a shop owner buys a car, has a vision, carefully plans every component of the build and takes detailing to a whole new level.

Arguably the most popular year for Chevelles, 1970 featured dual headlights, curvaceous quarters, and a tidy greenhouse that almost gives the car a fastback appearance. This Chevelle received a full nut and bolt rotisserie restoration from Southern Classics in 2008 which included many new high quality body panels. Once factory panel alignment was attained throughout, modern silver Chrysler paint was laid under traditional black Super Sport stripes and extensively wet sanded and buffed for the excellent shine you see today. Up front you'll find clear headlights in fresh stainless housings that are free of damage and tarnish. Between those headlights, a stainless trimmed grille features a prominent white “SS” emblem and looks as straight as the day it left the factory. Below the grille, a show worthy front bumper houses clear marker lights and is completely free of defects. On top of the car, a raised hood shows off the mirror-like paint and is devoid of traditional '70 Chevelle emblems and hood pins. Stainless trim on the cowl and around the windows is untarnished and accents like-new chrome windshield wipers and great looking chrome drip rails. On the fenders, new “SS454” emblems with white and red inlays combine with bright stainless wheel well trim to add a touch of detail to the smooth silver paint. New looking chrome side mirrors and new chrome door handles look great and function perfectly. At the rear of the car, divided brake lights are free of defects and housed in another show worthy chrome bumper that features a black Chevelle inlay with a prominent “SS” emblem. All glass appears to be new and the side and rear windows are smoked glass which looks great against the black stripes and silver body panels This car is much, much nicer than it was originally, and it carries a high quality restoration that features awesome finish work and some of the straightest body panels I've seen in a long time.

Under the mirror slick cowl induction hood is a 454 that has been rebuilt and bored .060 over to 468 cubic inches. And according to the dyno sheets provided with the car, that big block tops out at a very respectable 420 rear wheel horsepower and 450 ft./lb. of pavement eating torque. On top of the motor a chrome air filter, topped by a Chevrolet bowtie wing nut, feeds air to an Edelbrock performance fuel injection system that is complete with stainless fuel lines. Air/fuel mixture then travels into an Edelbrock aluminum intake and Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum heads and once inside the block, is compressed by hypereutectic pistons that are connected to a steel crank. The resulting exhaust gases are then sent to ceramic coated long tube headers with the help of a roller cam. Behind the fuel injection system, an MSD HEI distributor sends spark through MSD Super Conductor wires that are loomed to chrome Chevrolet valve covers via Moroso wire looms. In front of the engine, a complete Vintage Air Front Runner serpentine drive system utilizes billet pulleys and one belt to operate a chrome 140 amp alternator, a chrome AC compressor, an aluminum Stewart water pump and an aluminum power steering pump that sends fluid to a polished steering box via braided hoses. At the nose of the car, a heavy duty aluminum radiator sits in front of dual electric fans and pumps water through new hoses and chrome fittings to keep everything cool. Behind the engine, a smoothed, body matched firewall hangs a glossy body matched brake booster and complements the finished underside of the hood, slick inner fenders and a silver header panel with a chrome upper radiator support. Flip a small toggle switch on the side of the engine bay and blue LEDs cast an awesome glow that is sure to be a hit at any night time show.

What good would a killer motor be without the chassis to back it up? Inside the cars custom boxed chassis, a 5-speed Tremec TKO 600 manual transmission utilizes a hydraulic clutch to send power to a tried and true GM 12 bolt rear end with streetable 3.55 gears and durable Moser axles. Up front, a correct double A-arm suspension houses tubular upper control arms, a heavy duty sway bar and a Detroit Speed fast ratio steering box. Out back, the cars original four link rear suspension includes another heavy duty sway bar and load supporting air bags in the rear springs. A complete Hotchkis suspension kit has been installed and combines with Edelbrock shocks at all four corners to provide modern car handling. The GM factory brakes have been replaced with a Baer four wheel disc system that features slotted and drilled rotors all the way around and dual piston front and single piston rear calipers. A 2.5 inch exhaust system flows from the ceramic coated long tube headers to correct stainless exhaust tips and includes an X-pipe and two Flowmaster mufflers. The car even includes a scatter shield and a driveshaft hoop that is completely NHRA legal just in case you want to play at the track. To complete the look, 17 inch Foose Nitrous wheels wear 255/50 front and 270/50 rear Nitto NT450 radials. Everything is clean from the chrome differential cover to the bottom of the radiator and the floor has been lightly undercoated to ward off moisture.

During restoration, this Chevelle was equipped with a correct GM code 756 black bucket interior. The seats are in excellent shape and show little to no signs of wear. The upper dash exhibits no fading or warping and the lower dash has been tastefully modified to include an more extensive and accurate gauge cluster from Classic Instruments, aluminum switches for the heat and air conditioning and a Premier CD player. Above the dash, an auto dimming mirror with a multi-directional compass is a cool, modern touch and below the dash, a correct console flows along the transmission tunnel and houses a great looking chrome Hurst shifter with a black shifter knob. Below the console, like-new carpet sits on complete Dynamat sound deadening and insulation, and is protected by “SS454” floor mats. The Chevelle door panels are free of nicks and feature bright chrome door handles, chrome switches for the power windows, correct “SS” emblems and 2 Pioneer speakers in custom enclosures. The headliner is tight, free of fading and guides your eye to the package shelf where two more Pioneer speakers have been tastefully installed. Modern conveniences include remote keyless entry, an electric trunk release, intermittent wipers and adjustable blue LED dash lighting that is controlled by an aluminum dimmer switch. In the trunk you'll find a durable coating, a 12 disc CD changer and a hidden cut off switch.
