Description

In 2009, when NASCAR announced it would posthumously induct Dale Earnhardt into the NASCAR Hall of Fame, Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet decided to commemorate the occasion by building ten special edition Hall of Fame Camaros. Lesser known, but no less publicized is this one of one 2010 Hall of Fame Corvette. Built to be used as a parade vehicle for the staff of both Dale Earnhardt Incorporated and The Dale Earnhardt Foundation, it made appearances at holiday parades around Charlotte and was driven by the Earnhardt family to Dale's May 2010 induction into the inaugural class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

There is no doubt that Dale Earnhardt Sr. or 'The Intimidator' as most of us knew him, was one of the greatest NASCAR drivers of all time. He officially began his NASCAR career in 1979 by winning the Rookie of the Year award. In 1980, he became one of the only drivers to win a Cup Championship the year after winning Rookie of the Year and would go on to win a record tying six more Cups throughout the 80s and 90s. Earnhardt's other accomplishments include a coveted Daytona 500 victory in 1998 and four championship titles in the now defunct International Race of Champions series. He was posthumously named NASCARs Most Popular Driver in 2001 and voted the best NASCAR driver of all time by ESPN in 2007. He was inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in 1994, posthumously inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 2002, posthumously inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2006 and posthumously inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2010.

The awesome black, silver and red paint on this 2010 special edition Corvette is a familiar sight to most Earnhardt fans, especially if it's traveling at a high rate of speed. This car is so black that light seems to hit its surface and disappear into the paint and that, along with the cars excellent panel gaps, is a true testament to how far GM's manufacturing and paint facilities have come. The C6 Corvette, while familiar in appearance, added some modern updates to the traditional look of the Corvette. Up front, Xenon HID headlamps are trimmed in chrome and housed in black body matched buckets instead of traditional, heavy flip up panels. Below those headlights, large square fog lights are split by a square air intake and occupy the corners of the car instead of being mounted inboard. Above the air intake, centered on the cars nose is the words “Continue The Legend” which is The Earnhardt Foundations motto. Above those words, a crossed flag C6 Corvette emblem leads your eye to the hood where you'll find red accents that flow from the front of the car over the front fenders. In the center of the hood between the accents is The Earnhardt Foundation's Hall of Fame logo. Detailed in red, white and silver, it features Dale in his now famous victory pose above signature Dale Earnhardt script and is surrounded by black and white checkers. Further back at the top of the windshield you'll notice an “EarnhardtChevy.com” banner and behind the windshield you'll find a body matched removable roof panel. At the sides of the car, red stripes line up with arrow shaped marker lights to flow up the sides of the car from front to back. On top of the red stripes, white accents that were obviously influenced by the decal jobs on DEI stock cars run from the front fender air extractors to the rear of the doors. In the middle of the car, the words “Hall of Fame” are printed in white and complement two more Dale victory poses that sit above black and white checkers at the rear of the doors. Just behind the front wheels, the Dale Earnhardt Inc. nautical star logo complete with Dale's signature script appears in black, silver and red. Directly above the rear wheels, signature Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet logos feature white script, red bowties and red checkers. The rear window of the car features The Dale Earnhardt foundation logo above red accents that trace the rear fenders of the car from the doors to the rear valence and frame the words “Hall of Fame”. The rear panel of the car features clear Corvette tail lights and reverse lights, and another chrome C6 Corvette emblem above a “Continue The Legend” script. Above the quad stainless exhaust tips, final red accent begins at the rear wheels and wraps around the top of the rear splitter with “thedaleearnhardtfoundation.org” imprinted on it in black.

Powered by GM's 6.2-liter LS3 V8, this 2010 Corvette coupe is certainly no slouch in the performance department. Making an even 430 horsepower and 424 pounds of torque, it's a thrilling companion for both daily driving and Sundays at the track. The LS3 uses an all-aluminum block and high flow aluminum heads to house an aggressive cam, a high flow intake manifold, offset rocker arms, and electronic fuel injection with bigger injectors for a healthy 10.7:1 compression ratio. It fires up instantly and runs perfectly smooth thanks to years of advanced technology, and the sound of this OHV V8 is sure to send chills down your spine. It will be difficult to restrain yourself from burying the throttle every chance you get just to listen to the sonorous engine note, especially given the black red and silver colors of the car and the name Dale Earnhardt on the sides. The engine bay is tidy and clean, as everything is virtually new with only 312 sunny day miles on the car. To dress things up a bit, there is a black plastic intake manifold and matching coil covers with “Corvette” and “LS3” emblazoned on them in red and hood insulation that has been stamped with the C6 crossed flags.

Underneath the car you'll find a heavy duty Hydramatic 6-speed automatic transmission that is the most advanced and performance oriented automatic GM has ever produced. It sends power to a limited slip differential which is housed in a sport tuned wishbone front and rear independent suspension. Bolted to that suspension is heavy duty stabilizer bars, transverse mounted leaf springs, speed sensitive variable ratio power steering and ventilated four wheel disc brakes that feature “Corvette” branded calipers. Handling is further enhanced by GM's Active Handling System that works to prevent understeer to keep the car straight and a factory traction control system with an incorporated anti-lock braking system. Putting the power to the ground is five spoke chromed aluminum wheels that measure 18 inches in the front and 19 inches in the rear. In the center of those wheels you'll find Corvette center caps and chrome lug nuts and mounted to the outside of those wheels you'll find 245/40 front and 285/35 rear z-rated Goodyear Eagle F1 radials. Thanks to the six-speed transmission, high-speed cruising is a pleasure and the LS3 settles into a muted, distant rumble which produces fuel mileage in the mid-20s. Not bad for a car with this kind of performance.

Inside, the Corvettes black power adjustable leather buckets are aggressive enough to hold you in place during spirited driving, yet comfortable enough for cross-country touring. In front of you, the leather wrapped steering wheel features a C6 Corvette logo, holds revised for 2010 paddle shifters for the 6-speed automatic and controls for the cars cruise feature and audio system. Behind the steering wheel, the dash houses a bright Corvette branded tachometer and speedometer above a standard equipment driver information center. The center stack, which features premium stitching and a new for 2010 'weave' panel flows from the dash onto the floor and houses the cars dual zone climate control and an AM/FM 'smart radio' with a CD player, an MP3 jack and XM satellite capability. The door panels feature controls for the power windows, power door locks and self-dimming power heated outside rearview mirrors. Above the windshield you'll find a self-dimming rearview mirror that's complete with a compass and GM's Onstar, and a passenger's side sun visor that has been signed by Teresa Earnhardt. Safety equipment includes front and side impact air bags and keyless entry with push button ignition.

Documentation for this car includes a signed certificate of authenticity from Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet, the original window sticker for both the car and the Hall of Fame package, the original owner's manuals and warranty booklets and the original dealer paperwork.

This one of a kind Hall of Fame Corvette is a fitting tribute to The Intimidator. It drives with the tenacity of a track car, looks striking and has an engine that is an all American display of brute force. If you want a chance to own a car that has been tied to racing royalty and is certain to only increase in value, call today!
