Description

Pro touring cars are one of the hottest segments in the collector car market. They mix the best attributes of modern performance cars with the unmatched swagger and exclusivity of classic muscle cars and enthusiasts just can't seem to get enough. The last serious pro touring Mustang we sold, a show stopping '69 fastback with a modern Mach 1 powertrain didn't even last ONE DAY on our website! And when word gets out about this 5.0 liter Coyote powered 1965 Shelby GT350-H pro tourer, it'll likely be snatched up just as quickly.

Starting life as a run of the mill 1965 fastback, this solid Mustang would prove the perfect starting point for a radical Shelby GT350-H tribute build. The rotisserie restoration began with hours spent massaging the cars panels into a completely wave free and arrow straight canvas. Once that canvas was smooth and fully prepped it was covered in a coat of Ford code A Raven Black basecoat/clearcoat paint and topped with traditional code Z Sauterne Gold Metallic Shelby stripes that include correctly stenciled “G.T. 350 H” callouts. The result is a lust worthy fastback tribute car with expertly aligned body panels, better than factory panel gaps and an all business attitude.

At the leading edge of the car a Shelby style grille with horizontal bars and an offset Mustang emblem sits between two clear and perfectly functioning stainless trimmed headlights. Below that grille, a Shelby 'R' front valence replaces the car's front bumper and incorporates a larger air intake between two chrome trimmed bullet style marker lights. At the top of the grille, a weight reducing fiberglass hood carries a traditional Shelby hood scoop and aligns perfectly with the car's front fenders and front valence. At the top of the car, new windows and Shelby exclusive plexi-glass rear quarter inserts are bordered by straight stainless trim that looks like its fresh off the showroom floor. The profile of the car presents a slick purpose built race car appearance with pristine chrome door handles, a stainless antenna and rear Shelby style air scoops being the only bolt-on parts. Out back, the Sauterne Gold Metallic stripes are divided by a pristine chrome GT350 fuel filler cap and flanked by two like-new segmented brake lights and a passenger's side mounted “GT350” emblem. Below that fuel filler, a straight and show worthy chrome bumper sits above chrome trimmed reverse lights mounted at the edges of the cars roll pan.

Pop the fiberglass hood on this killer Mustang and it transforms from classic to state of the art in the blink of an eye. Looking completely natural between the cars satin black fenders is an all-aluminum DOHC Ford Motorsports 5.0 liter 'mod motor' that's rated at pavement scorching 412 horsepower and a hefty 390 lb./ft of torque. Officially named the Coyote motor and officially found in the engine bay of the 2011 Mustang GT, this silver rocket utilizes redesigned cylinder heads that are equipped with 32 light weight valves and variable valve timing, a long runner single scroll intake with a direct mount throttle body, a forged steel crank and forged steel connecting rods that are equipped with oil cooled hypereutectic pistons to create a stout 11 to 1 compression ratio and a 7,000 RPM redline. At the front of the engine, the 80 mm throttle body mixes air from a custom stainless air induction system with fuel from a Speed Inc. return style race ready fuel system. Breathing is optimized by Stainless Works tubed headers which sit at the sides of an eight quart high capacity oil pan that allows the car to pull over 1g without losing oil pressure. Cooling is supplied by a custom aluminum radiator which is equipped with an electric fan and a sweet looking Shelby radiator cap. And tuning is supplied by an SCT Performance tuner with a glove box mounted port and a custom Speed Inc. tune. The engine bay is tidy with “Powered by Ford” cam covers and a nicely detailed “5.0” fuel rail cover concealing most of the factory silver engine. And the race inspired engine bay, topped by a completely finished Raven Black hood, is clean of any extraneous wires, hoses and bolt-ons. The original GT350 was about as close to a race-ready car as you could buy in 1965; this car takes that spirit and turns the performance dial up to 11.

In the spirit of the original Shelby Mustangs, this car is all about maximizing performance on the track and that means making all five gears very useful and providing unmatched turning and stopping ability. Behind this car's serious motor is a new Spec clutch equipped Tremec TKO600 5-speed manual transmission that sends power to a Posi-traction Ford 9 inch rear end with huge 3.90 gears. At the front of the car, a new Heidts subframe combines with tubular control arms, coil over shocks and Heidts power rack and pinion steering to provide excellent grip and handling. At the back of the car, new leaf springs and shocks sit in front of a new stainless fuel tank that is equipped with stainless fuel lines and a new fuel pressure gauge. The cars manual braking system has been upgraded with slotted and drilled rotors at all four corners, and a custom fabricated 2.5 inch exhaust system features an X-pipe, polished Magnaflow mufflers and rear mounted polished tips. Above the suspension, flat black floors contrast well to all new stainless hardware and look as clean as the day the car left the factory. At the corners, spectacular looking 17 inch replica Magnum 500 wheels wear Hertz Sports Car Club spinners and 225/45 front and 245/45 rear Firestone Firehawk radials.

Inside the car you'll find a freshly restored factory vinyl interior that is super nice and fits the character of this custom Mustang perfectly. The front seats wear their new covers well and feature firm padding that's probably spent most of its life holding trophies instead of people. Below the seats, new black carpet anchors cool Shelby branded front seat belts and is protected by retro rubber Shelby floor mats. Top dead center on the transmission tunnel you'll find a billet shifter that is topped by a black shift knob and sits in a simple chrome trimmed boot. In front of the driver, a great looking chrome trimmed dash includes a speedometer set between gauges for the cars vitals, a correct AM radio and a large glove box. Above the seats, a replacement black headliner is stretched tight, and beside the seats, stylish stainless trimmed door panels feature new chrome handles for both the windows and the doors above new arm rests. Connecting the driver to the road is an excellent looking deluxe steering wheel that sits in front of a column mounted Shelby tachometer and features a wood rim, polished spokes and a polished Shelby horn button.

Documentation for this car includes a spec sheet and a cool Hertz Rent-A-Racer tag bracket.

Absolutely no expense was spared on this 1965 Shelby GT350-H pro tourer. With an authentic Shelby appearance and a modern Mustang feel it combines the style and class of yesterday with the performance technology of one of today's most potent street machines. If you're looking for an instantly recognizable classic that is scary fast and an absolute blast to drive, we have the car for you. Call now!
