Frame Off Restored GTO Convertible 400/350 HP 4 Speed

For 1968 Pontiac's GTO received a complete redesign and featured a broad new exterior paint palette that included FOUR different shades of blue. You could order your GTO in any color ranging from bright Meridian Turquoise all the way to loud Solar Red. And with the GTOs reputation practically founded on the fact that it was an in-your-face, end-all-be-all muscle car that was bought to be seen in, it's no surprise that most of the order sheets were checked with the most ostentatious colors. One of only 9,980 rag top goats built for the 1968 model year, this unassuming GTO convertible wraps a fire breathing 350 horsepower Pontiac 400 V8 in a subtle and rare Aleutian Blue and teal color combination.

The recent beneficiary of a frame off nut and bolt rotisserie restoration, this clean GTO wears its correct Pontiac code L Aleutian Blue paint and features a correct code 1 Ivory vinyl top. During the restoration, the cars body was removed from its chassis, entirely disassembled and stripped to bare metal. Once completely rust free, the arrow straight body was professionally re-sprayed in the cars deep blue paint and buffed to a tremendous wet look shine. The result is a show stopping GTO with better than factory panel alignment and a high quality finish that simply glows in the sunlight.

At the front of the car, Pontiac's highly renowned body matched Endura front bumper houses familiar stainless trimmed twin grilles, new for 1968 horizontal headlights and a pristine white inlayed “GTO” emblem. Below the front bumper the cars curved front valence is trimmed in more showroom quality stainless trim that is centered between clear corner mounted marker lights. Above the front bumper a new for 1968 hood features more aggressive sculpting that incorporates the first use of Pontiac's 'twin nostril' air intakes and features an awesome lighted tachometer. Behind the hood, the like-new glass windshield connects to the correct ivory top through excellent looking stainless trim and is cleared by the first production version of hidden windshield wipers ever featured on an American car. At the sides of this GTO, expressive 'coke bottle' fenders are highlighted by dent free stainless wheel well trim and rocker moldings that add just the right amount of flash to the cool blue paint. On the car's front fenders, traditional red and black inlayed GTO emblems display the cars “6.0 Litre” engine displacement, and on the back fenders white “GTO” decals sit next to awesome chrome trimmed Pontiac arrow head marker lights. On the doors, traditional chrome GM door handles and correct chrome rear view mirrors complement a stainless antenna that's mounted at the top of the passenger's side front fender. At the back of the car, more awesome looking stainless trim lines the entire convertible boot above a second white inlayed “GTO” emblem which looks perfect mounted to the passenger's side of the trunk lid. Below the trunk, a show worthy body width chrome bumper houses showroom fresh tail lights and hangs above two great looking beveled Pypes exhaust tips.

Under the hood of this GTO you'll find a date code correct Pontiac WT 400 with 10.75 to 1 compression and 350 horsepower. Completely rebuilt to factory specifications, this performance bred V8 is good for 445 lb./ft. of torque and features correct components all the way from its satin black air cleaner to its turquoise oil pan. At the top of the motor, a correct single snorkel air cleaner features a correct chrome lid and a reproduction AC decal. Below the air cleaner, a finely tuned 4 barrel carburetor includes a correct yellow spring and sends fuel into a high output Pontiac intake which is painted traditional Pontiac turquoise to match the date correct engine block. Behind the carburetor, a correct points distributor sends power though black Ultimate Heat Protection wires that snake around correct rust free cast iron exhaust manifolds. Fully sorted and completed to a high level of detail, the engine bay includes correct hoses and clamps, fresh belts, a reproduction Delco battery and even correct hood insulation. The fenders and firewall are covered in a smooth coat of GM satin black and the turquoise dipped engine fires up easily, idles well, and runs just as you would expect a newly restored GTO to run.

Take one look underneath this car and you'll really begin to appreciate what a high quality restoration looks like. Spotless satin black floor pans sit above a super clean powder coated frame that is held together with new stainless hardware. Traveling up and down the floorpan is new stainless fuel and brake lines that run to either a new stainless fuel tank or power front disc and power rear drum brakes. In the middle of the chassis a tough 4-speed manual transmission sends power through a new driveshaft to a fully restored GM 10 bolt rear end. The cars original double A-arm front and three link rear suspension has been completely restored to factory specifications and features correct power steering, correct new shocks and correct decals on all of its parts. New bushings and body mounts give the car a showroom slick ride, and a fresh reproduction exhaust system incorporates an x-pipe and welded mufflers to produce a classic sound that will make you feel like its 1968 all over again. At the corners of the car, black and silver Pontiac Rally II wheels wear reproduction F70-14 Firestone redline tires and feature cool red lettered “PMD” center caps that are mounted in the middle of new chrome lug nuts.

Inside this GTO you'll find a great looking combination of Flat Teal and Ivory interior panels that complement each other perfectly and look great against the cars Aleutian Blue exterior paint. In front of the driver, the Flat Teal dash wears a great looking warp free pad which lays over an impressive wood applique that's bordered by bright chrome trim. Inside this killer trim combination you'll find a speedometer and tachometer, chrome knobs for the car accessories, a chrome switch for the power top, a correct push button radio and a locking passengers side glove box. At the center of the dash, a Custom Autosound satellite radio with built in MP3 compatibility hangs over a correct teal console that houses a chrome Hurst shifter that's topped with a traditional white cue ball knob. At the sides of the console classy looking stainless trimmed Ivory seats sit in front of a matching Ivory rear seat and feel as if they were restored just yesterday. At the sides of the seats, good looking Ivory door panels are set of by correct red, black and chrome GTO emblems and feature new stainless trim along with new chrome handles for the doors and windows. Fresh black carpet runs from under the chrome trimmed foot pedals to the plush rear seat and anchors like-new black seatbelts that are a perfect contrast to the cars Ivory seats. Connecting the driver to the road is an awesome silver spoked steering wheel which features a correct teal and chrome “Pontiac Motor Division" horn button and sits in front of a stylized billet turn signal stalk and tilt wheel lever. Below the Ivory convertible boot, the cars restored trunk includes correct spatter paint, a correct trunk lid decal and a correctly covered spare tire.
