Boyd Coddington Designed Ford Convertible LS1 V8 Automatic Leather A/C
This custom-built 1940 Ford Convertible designed by Boyd Coddington stands as a timeless masterpiece, seamlessly blending the classic charm of a bygone era with modern craftsmanship and innovation. The sister to Boyd Coddington's iconic '40 Ford Coupe, this is the one-of-a-kind Club Coupe he was building at the time of his death. This car was finished by Hot Rod Investments of Arizona in conjunction with Boyd's wife Jo and his sons Boyd Jr. and Chris. The restoration finish was exactly like Boyd had designed. This final build took into consideration all of Boyd's experience, creativity and the "Boyd look." Every detail of this iconic automobile reflects Coddington's unparalleled skill and dedication to perfection.
Boyd inspired lines:
Starting with the exterior, the body of the 1940 Ford Convertible has been meticulously shaped and sculpted to enhance its original lines. The steel body retains its classic appeal, but with subtle modifications that add a touch of contemporary flair. Most notably is the hand-formed aluminum single-piece removable hardtop created by the legendary Marcel Delay and Sons. The show worthy Black cromax chroma base paint, executed with precision, showcases a deep, lustrous finish that complements the car's sleek curves. Additional body modifications included shaved handles, lowered windshield and frenched headlights.
Boyd Coddington's signature touches are also evident in the famous original Boyd Coddington 17" billet wheels complete with Boyd signature center caps, each of which are no longer produced, giving the car a modern stance while maintaining a connection to its vintage roots.
Hot Rods Need Power!
Beneath the hood lies a LS1 V8 producing 430hp, an LS1 cathedral-port intake manifold, a 102mm throttle body and ceramic-coated headers. The engine bay is finished with a Griffin dual-fan aluminum radiator, polished aluminum serpentine system and all-chromed components. Power is managed by a 4L60E automatic overdrive transmission and put to the ground through a trick Corvette independent rear suspension and limited-slip differential.
Luxury Digs
Step inside, and the interior reflects the same level of craftsmanship as the exterior. Luxurious leather upholstery, expertly stitched and tailored, adorns the seats and interior panels. The dashboard has been revamped with a blend of vintage-inspired design and modern technology, providing the driver with both a sense of nostalgia and the convenience of contemporary features. Embroidered Boyd signatures are found on the back wall of the trunk and on the side door panels, and a custom dash, Dakota Digital instruments, tilt column, and Alpine Bluetooth receiver add convenience and style. The ride is comforted with Gen II Vintage Air Air Conditioning, Mercedes-Benz carpeting, LED courtesy lights, power windows and remote-operated doors. Coddington's attention to detail extends to the smallest components. Custom-machined accents and controls enhance the interior, ensuring that every aspect of the car reflects a cohesive design philosophy.
Street Prowess
Driving this 1940 Ford Convertible is a true sensory experience, where the synergy of design, power, and craftsmanship converge. All made possible by a custom-boxed chassis, Heidts double A-arm chrome independent front suspension with chrome coilover shocks, Corvette-based independent rear suspension with quad-chrome coilover shocks, power rack & pinion steering, aluminum fuel cell and chrome disc brakes.
Boyd Coddington's legacy lives on in this custom creation, a testament to his influence on the world of automotive design and the enduring appeal of a meticulously crafted classic.
