Built in Norwood Ohio and delivered to George Schmauss Chevrolet and Buick in Forreston Illinois, this 1980 Z28 looks flat out sinister in correct GM code 19 black. It was bought new and kept fresh for 29 years by the same loving owner, and during that time was never wrecked, torn apart or the recipient of any body work at all aside from new paint and decals. Because the car has never been disassembled it still presents surprisingly straight factory panel alignment which gives the glossy black basecoat/clearcoat paint a straight and smooth look from panel to panel. The front and rear bumper covers are both pliable and free of weathering which, along with clear factory glass, suggests it has been garage kept for most of its life.

For the 1980 model year all Camaro Z28s were equipped with the option B81 body side ornamentation delete which allows this cars jet black paint to really show off the second generation's multifaceted design and absolutely glowing blue stripes. At the front of the car, a showroom fresh plastic grille houses a bright blue “Z28” emblem between clear front headlights and parking lights that mimic the look of earlier second generation Camaros. Below the grille, a body width front spoiler displays bright blue striping which flows over exaggerated fender flares to door mounted “Z28” decals. Behind the grille a functional hood scoop mimics the cowl induction look that the Camaro created 11 years earlier and wears both blue stripes and blue “Air Induction” decals. At the back of the hood, pristine factory glass is bordered by original code B77 and code B89 stainless black window trim that is as straight as the day it left the factory. The cars clean fuselage keeps extraneous trim to a minimum with only chrome flip up door handles, cool knife edged front fender louvers and body matched sport mirrors breaking the cadence of the slick black paint. At the back of the car, a traditional D80 second generation rear decklid spoiler hangs a second blue stripe above a blacked out rear valence with clear tri colored tail lights.

Pop the hood on this 1980 F-body and you'll find a low mileage, all original 350 cubic inch V8! Mechanically, the cars original V8 is in great shape and has been immaculately maintained throughout its entire existence. At the top of the motor, a satin black air cleaner pipes cool air into the cars original Quadrajet carburetor. Below the carburetor, the engine block displays GM corporate blue paint from its intake to its oil pan and sends exhaust through original cast iron exhaust manifolds that still retain their factory heat shields. At the back of the motor, a correct Delco-Remy HEI distributor sends fire through gray Packard Delcore plug wires. At the front of the motor, a new battery and fresh cables join fresh coolant hoses and fresh V-belts to provide rock solid drivability. The VAST majority of components in this engine bay are original, and the cars clean engine compartment presents extremely well.

The bottom of this Camaro is completely original, with straight and solid floorpans bolted to a clean 32 year old chassis. The cars original M21 close ratio 4-speed transmission sends power to an original option GU4 10 bolt Posi-traction rear axle with fuel stretching 3.08 gears. If you're a Chevrolet fan, then you know any time an F option code is listed on the build sheet, it means some serious suspension upgrades. According to this Camaros build sheet, it is equipped with the Z28 specific F41 special suspension which for 1980, added higher rate springs, stiffer valved shocks, and a thick rear sway bar. On top of the F41 performance suspension, the car was equipped with J50 power front disc and rear drum brakes and factory standard power steering which improve both handling and braking. Everything under this Camaro looks functional and solid with a light spraying of undercoating covering the dent free floors and an original GM true dual factory system taking care of exhaust duties. Power is put to the pavement through wicked 15 inch painted aluminum wheels that wear 225/70 Performance Radial GTs.

This car's well maintained blue interior is obviously a play on its awesome blue exterior stripes. The custom cloth seats feel great with firm padding and solid frames that are in excellent shape. Below the seats, great looking original blue carpet is protected by front and rear factory optioned rubber floor mats. On the roof, a tight blue headliner frames a round dome light that, along with all of the other factory optioned accessory lights, works like brand new. Between the seats, a wide blue console houses a chrome Hurst shifter in front of chrome switches for the optional power windows. In front of the shifter, a soft and warp free dash houses a wood trimmed gauge pod above controls for the cars HVAC system and a date correct radio. At the sides of the seats, stainless trimmed door panels feature cool blue stripes that mimic the exterior of the car along with switches for the cars optional power door locks and round “Z28” emblems. The simulated rope steering wheel looks perfect atop its blue tilt column, and behind the rear seats, you'll find an original trunk that is in great shape and contains an original space saver spare tire.

Documentation included with this sale is: the cars original window sticker, a copy of that window sticker, the car's original build sheet, a copy of that build sheet, the car's original bill of sale, the car's original warranty booklets and owner's manual, a copy of the original title from the person who owned the car for 29 years, two 1980 Camaro factory brochures, a super cool 1980 Reader's Digest road atlas and a stack of maintenance receipts.

It represents the best Detroit had to offer in the early 1980s, and is an excellent entry point in today's hot muscle car market.
