Description

Fear not Ford fans! Even though RK Motors Charlotte has been selling a lot of Corvettes and Camaros lately, we haven't forgotten about the blue oval camp. Packing a top dog 428 Cobra Jet engine and an original 4-speed transmission, this stunning 1969 Mustang Mach 1 is the perfect big block pony car for someone who enjoys taking their vintage muscle to the streets and doesn't want to pay blue chip prices for a numbers matching car.

Originally a Pastel Gray car, it was recently frame up restored to better than factory condition and covered in a glossy coat of Acapulco Blue. All of the cars body panels are straight, indicating a lot of time was spent block sanding everything to get it smooth and flat, and the ridged body lines and narrow panel gaps present better today than when the car was brand new. On top of the Acapulco blue, trademark flat black paint was re-applied to the hood and rear decklid spoiler and combine with perfectly aligned gold Mach 1 side stripes to create a no-questions-asked car which, stylistically, is some of the finest work to come out of Dearborn Michigan in the last hundred years.

Top dead center on the hood of the car is a silver finned shaker scoop that proudly displays chrome “Cobra Jet” emblems on each of its sides. At the edge of that hood, factory chrome hood pins are in excellent shape and complement bright stainless trim around the grille and a showroom fresh plateaued front bumper. Chrome trimmed low beam headlights and crystal clear grille mounted high beam headlights combine with an angled chin spoiler and ridged front fenders to provide a fierce, aggressive look. In the left side of the grille a pristine chrome Mustang emblem features a familiar galloping horse and red, white and blue vertical inlays. At the sides of the car, stainless rocker moldings parallel the gold Mach 1 stripes and run from just behind the front wheels to just in front of the rear wheels. On the doors, excellent looking chrome door handles sit below body matched racing mirrors to complement stainless drip rails, stainless wipers and straight stainless trim which houses factory correct tinted glass. On the rear quarter panels, attractive deep set quarter scoops sit below new C-pillar mounted chrome and black Mustang emblems and complete front body lines that begin at the leading edges of the front fenders. Out back, a pristine Mach 1 tape stripe borders the top edge of the rear valence to sit above trunk mounted and black inlayed "Mustang" letters. Below the "Mustang" letters you'll find an attractive satin finished and highly detailed fuel cap which features another red white and blue inlayed Mustang emblem and traditional segmented Mustang tail lights. Below those chrome trimmed tail lights, a pristine chrome bumper sits above quad outlet stainless exhaust tips and round chrome trimmed reverse lights that are mounted on the cars roll pan.

Fortunately, this car is a lot more than just a pretty body. Under the blacked-out hood lives a 428 Cobra Jet Ram Air engine that has been restored to its correct factory appearance and cranks out a very conservatively rated 335 horsepower. The engine was fully rebuilt to stock specs during the cars restoration and runs every bit as good as it looks. As you can see, it has been properly coated in Ford Blue paint and includes correct ancillary components and accessories. Up top, a correct 4 barrel carburetor sits under a correct ram air induction system that receives air from the shaker hood scoop. Below the carburetor, chrome valve covers proudly read "Powered By Ford" and feature correct reproduction decals, and a correct points distributor sends power through correct Autolite plug wires. In front of the motor, a correct satin black radiator features correct decals and sends water through correct hoses with replica clamps. Beside that radiator an Autolite Sta-Ful battery is charged by a rebuilt alternator which is driven by a fresh V-belt. Today, this car is every bit as fast and potent as it was 42 years ago and the engine bay has been completely detailed all the way down to a correct satin black finish and authentic chalk marks.

The bottom of the car has been restored to the same high standards as the top of the car. Behind the motor, the cars original 4-speed transmission drives a durable, correctly marked Ford 9 inch rear end with 3.50 gears and a correct Traction-Lok limited slip differential. The silver transmission slips effortlessly through the gears and, like the engine, features accurate and authentic chalk marks. The car's front and rear suspension is 100% correctly marked OEM-grade equipment that includes a front shock tower reinforcement, correct staggered rear shocks and is held together with stainless hardware. Above the suspension, red floor pans appear new, show absolutely no signs of rust or weathering and wear a lot of Acapulco Blue overspray, just as the car would have left the factory. Braking is handled by optional power front discs and rear drums that receive fluid through new stainless lines, and turning is aided by optional power steering that is held on by a correct silver bracket. The cars fresh and accurately duplicated dual exhaust system is fed by stock cast iron exhaust manifolds, features a curved H-pipe crossover and has a powerful, vintage tone. At the back of the car, a new stainless steel fuel tank sends gas through shiny new stainless fuel lines. At the corners of the car, 14 inch factory steel wheels wear correct satin finished wheel covers and a new set of 215/70 BF Goodrich T/A radials.

Inside the car, a black comfort weave bucket seat interior features red accents, a sport deck rear seat and presents as new. Everything from the seat foams and seat covers to the carpet and red floor mats was replaced during the restoration. The dash is loaded with rebuilt gauges which include a factory tachometer, and features wood grain trim that's as vivid and bright as the day the car rolled into a Ford showroom. A correct optional AM/FM radio sits in front of the cars chrome shifter which is topped by a correct wooden Mustang shift knob and is housed in a correct wood trimmed console. Even the seat belts have been restored to new condition and along with the optional Rim Blow steering wheel, chrome accessory knobs and completely new door panels provide a fresh and nicely detailed driving environment. Behind the interior, a completely restored trunk includes a correct trunk mat, a correct full-size spare tire and correct trunk lid decals. Ford definitely had some of the best interior designers in the business during the 60s, because the driving environments in the Mustangs are always first rate, and the interior in this 1969 Mach 1 is no exception.

Documentation included with this car is an original Ford broadcast sheet, Eminger paperwork, a Marti report and some maintenance and restoration receipts.
