Description

Chevrolet has long been considered a 'working man's brand'. The interesting thing is, despite those humble origins, Chevy consistently peddles enough content-laden trucks to also be considered one of the best-selling luxury marques in the world. No doubt, a big part of the firm's upscale appeal comes from the Corvette. From 1950s optimism to 21st century moxie, the Chevrolet Corvette has always represented everything aspirational about the automotive experience. Of course, another part of that appeal is the franchise's long history of creating many of the world's most iconic vehicles. And that unique axiom is exactly where you'll find this stellar tri-five custom: self-assuredly rumbling at the crossroads of timeless style and world-class athleticism. Timeless, of course, because it's a 1955 210 that's been lovingly massaged through a nut-and-bolt rotisserie restoration. And a world-class stoplight slayer because, during that restoration, it was fitted with 408 cubic inches of smooth LS stroker! Ready to see why the bowtie brand is affectionately called USA-1?

DOUBLE-NICKEL DELIGHT

The product of a nut-and-bolt rotisserie restoration that was perfected by Roger Lynskey of Royse City, Texas' RPL Customs, this sweet Chevy resto-mod does an excellent job of wrapping enduring style around modern technology. An all-American cherry that was ripe for customization, the car was subjected to a systematic, no-expense-spared build that began with all its panels being carefully blasted and artfully straightened. After that thorough massage, those surfaces were carefully sealed in glossy two-stage that, reflecting a rich combination bronze and cream, simultaneously shines as timeless and hip. And today, this sweet Chevy rolls as a lights-out custom that's earned major accolades from some of the biggest enthusiast groups in the collector car hobby!

Rolling proof that more doesn't necessarily mean better, this sedan turns virtually every head it passes by simply doing what it does best: being one of the finest classic cars on the planet. No heavy add-ons or overwrought fabrication, just balanced proportions and tasteful aesthetics. At the front of the car, modern, stainless-trimmed headlights lead a polished grille, clear parking lamps and a guarded bumper. Between those torches, a massaged hood points an ornate Chevrolet crest opposite polished wipers, which clear a smoked and stainless-trimmed greenhouse. At the base of that glass, a tidy profile leads tasteful quarter spears with factory door handles and intricate nail guards. And at the back of the car, a second guarded bumper frames subtle Vs, Buick-style LEDs and a Chevrolet themed Center High Mount Stop Lamp.

SMALL BLOCK STROKER

Hoist this Chevy's sculpted hood and you'll find 408 cubic inches of rowdy LS stroker motor that charges the rear wheels with an even 500 horses and 455 lb./ft. of pavement-scarring torque. At the top of that iron mill, a remote filter cone funnels wind into a billet throttle body, which is backed by a trusty Aeromotive regulator and a liquid-filled Marshall pressure gauge. That valve fronts a spry LS3 intake that, port-matched to the car's hot LS3 heads, makes excellent use of Holley fuel rails and LS7 injectors. Those heads, built with COMP 921 springs, cap LS7 lifters, Arias pistons and Eagle H-beam rods. Those rods spin a forged Eagle crank beneath an LG Motorsports cam. Fire is provided by Taylor ThunderVolt wires, which split coated, long-tube headers that were fabricated by the pros at Art Morrison. In front of those tubes, polished Vintage Air Front Runner serpentine components spin modern power steering beneath a polished AC compressor and a polished, 140 amp alternator. A beefy Performance Rod and Custom radiator hangs PCM-controlled SPAL pullers behind a billet expansion tank. The balanced and blueprinted engine cruises like a champ thanks to details like ARP bolts, a Holley oil pan and a Powermaster XS Torque mini starter. Items like a Lokar cable, Lokar sticks and Billet Specialties hood supports ensure first-class presentation. And all that glitz is dressed in smooth bronze two-stage, which edges to crisp fenders and a custom firewall.

LOOKS, POWER AND ATHLETICISM

Not surprisingly, the bottom of this show worthy bowtie continues the theme of pairing proven hardware with enhanced technology. Glossy floors create a picturesque frame for a Satin Black rendition of Art Morrison's acclaimed GT Sport Tri-5 chassis. That chassis, itself a work of CAD-based art, looks especially appealing finished with tubular arms, big sway bars and Strange adjustable coil-overs. Behind the stroker, a dressed 4L60E 4-speed, professionally built by Gainesville, Texas' Kenny Wilson Transmission, makes excellent use of high quality Sonnax internals and a 3,000 RPM Precision Industries Vigilante stall. That transmission twists torque to a Strange 9-inch axle that's built with a posi-traction differential, 31-spline shafts and Strange 3.70 gears. Turns come courtesy of Detroit Speed power rack-and-pinion steering. Speed gets scrubbed by power-assisted Wilwood calipers, which cinch a quartet of drilled and slotted rotors. A Rick's stainless fuel tank secures 22 gallons of 'go juice'. Coated exhaust feeds coated Flowmaster 40s. And all that hardware rolls on polished American Racing Torq Thrust IIs, which spin 245/45ZR17 Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs in front of 275/40ZR18 Nitto NT01s.

CUSTOM, CLEAN AND COOL

Between the doors, a custom cockpit manifests as a supple sea of tasteful tan curves that are padded with Ultraleather Buff surfacing. Broad bench and bucket seats are dissected by a custom console that's garnished with controls for power windows and a polished B&M QuickSilver shifter. A streamlined dash hangs bowtie-stamped trim around Vintage Air conditioning, Dakota Digital VHX telemetry and a vintage lighter port that's been creatively refashioned into a shift light. Billet foot pedals shade light Daytona Carpet, which mirrors both a custom headliner and Second Skin sound insulation. Custom, billet-trimmed side panels front power locks, remote windows and remote door poppers. The driver spins a polished Billet Specialties steering wheel around a polished, tilting column. A custom-upholstered trunk hides a big Optima battery. Crisp Alpine audio gets funneled through an Alpine amp, Alpine speakers and a custom-mount Earthquake subwoofer. And modern conveniences include Cruise Control and a remote battery disconnect.

Owning a lights-out classic is cool. Owning a lights-out classic that's been tastefully customized is something few are lucky enough to experience. Owning a tastefully customized, lights-out classic that's propelled by one of the hottest powerplants ever created is the stuff most gearheads dream about. Don't miss your chance to enjoy this incredible tri-five!
