Ground Up Restored Challenger R/T 440 V8 Automatic Build Sheet Documented
If you're looking for an iconic '70s Mopar that stays true to the day it roamed the streets when it was sold new, this 440 equipped 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T should check all the right boxes for you. Undergoing a meticulous, ground up restoration between 2004 and 2008, then a mechanical refresh in 2020; this Challenger R/T will impress the most discerning judges and charm die-hard Mopar fans.
The 440 “Magnum” V8 under the optional (J54) Sport hood is a numbers-matching unit and beautifully restored. It's mated to the same A727 TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic transmission it was bolted to back in June of 1970. That 440 is fed by the factory 4-barrel and sends power back to a (A36) Performance Axle package with a 3.55 Sure Grip differential. And exhaust gasses exit out the throaty, (N41) dual exhaust with (N42) polished exhaust tips.
Ordered from the factory in radiant (FK5) Dark Burnt Orange Metallic, that glossy finish shows better than the day it was sold brand new. The fender tag shows this Challenger R/T was ordered with a (V68) factory stripe delete and (V1X) vinyl roof in black, and that's how it remains today. Panel gaps are tight, and the doors click shut with the ease of one finger. The stainless trim shows extremely well, and the R/T badges appear to be as fresh as the day they were mounted. And this legendary E-Body sits on a set of bright, Magnum 500 wheels on updated radial tires.
Inside, we are greeted by a high trim (K4) Burnt Orange interior with cloth inserts. An optional (A62) Rallye Instrument Cluster is always a welcome feature to a Mopar cabin. All upholstery is taut and the interior shows just as well as the glossy exterior and meticulous engine bay. And if you look at our high resolution images of the undercarriage, you'll be just as impressed with that too.
The care of previous ownership of this 1970 Challenger R/T translates into how incredibly well this car shows. The ground up restoration was a no-expense-spared project that utilized NOS parts if the factory parts could not be restored. Even the smallest details of hardware finishing and overspray were not over-looked. And of course, with a restoration like this you can expect a stack of receipts and photos included with the sale…as well as the original Broadcast Sheets.
This 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T is an excellent example of a correctly restored car that represents the golden age of muscle cars. If you're looking to add an icon to your collection, or finally get your childhood dream car in your garage, this Challenger R/T deserves your attention.
