Description

The 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle is one of those timeless designs that looks good no matter how the car is built. Stock, modified, race, pro-touring, whatever; the clean lines and balanced stance on these tough looking muscle cars create a modern look with classic swagger that is an excellent platform for major modifications. Best of all, their universal appeal and high production numbers mean that the Chevelle has one of the largest networks of aftermarket support in the collector car hobby. Born from that awesome combination of appeal and support, this killer 1965 Malibu pro tourer mixes classic good looks with serious modern performance hardware to put a 21st century spin on a traditional crowd favorite.

During a complete nut and bolt rotisserie restoration, this Chevelle was entirely disassembled and striped of its original dull Ermine White paint. The body of the car was solid and presented itself as an excellent foundation for a slick first rate paint job with the exception of its massive flat quarter panels, which are typically a problem area with these Chevelles. After two new high quality quarters were installed, the rest of the body panels were bolted back to the chassis and perfectly straightened so that the entire car could be layered in a dynamic coat of rare Woodland Green Hummer paint. The result is a fantastic looking hot rod with a top notch, arrow straight body that oozes cool even when it's sitting still.

Although this car isn't stripped entirely of stainless, ornamentation and trim was kept to a minimum to show of the killer green body panels and give the car a more intimidating presence. Up front, a pristine stainless grille houses four clear and bright headlights above a show worthy chrome bumper. At the top of the car, all new glass is complemented by like-new stainless trim, mirror-like stainless wipers and straight chrome drip rail moldings. At the sides of the car, new stainless wheel well openings combine with traditional chrome door handles and a chrome driver door mounted bowtie mirror to add some brightness to the forest of Woodland Green. On the rear fenders, painted blue “Malibu SS” ghost scripts, which are probably one of the coolest details I've seen roll through our showroom in quite some time, are modeled perfectly after factory fender emblems and only visible in certain lighting from certain angles. At the back of the car, excellent looking traditional rear valence trim features a cool textured design and houses perfectly clear tail lights above a second show worthy chrome bumper. Although this car sounds deceptively simple, its classic looks and tasteful modifications make for one awesome ride that has a custom feel while retaining traditional muscle car style.

Lift the hood of this car and you'll find a much less subtle modification in the form of a 5.3 liter (327 cubic inch) Vortec V8 that gives this Malibu plenty of performance to back up its tough looks. Spawned from GM's world renowned LS motors, this modern OHV powerplant utilizes aftermarket Howell electronic fuel injection, coil near plug firing and flat top pistons to create 300 horsepower and roughly 350 ft./lb. of torque. In front of the silver motor, a custom fabricated and powder coated air intake houses a Spectre reusable air filter and reaches to the very front of the car to pipe clean and cool air into a composite manifold. At the sides of the block, ceramic coated Hooker Super Competition headers send exhaust into a true dual system that's equipped with an H-pipe, mean sounding Flowmaster 50 series mufflers and side mounted stainless tips. At the front of the car a custom fabricated aluminum radiator sits beneath a satin finished radiator support in front of new Goodyear hoses, a modern AC compressor and two programmable Dakota Digital electric fans. Supplying those fans with power is a Howell wiring harness that, when combined with Howell O2 sensors ensures all the modern parts are communicating well and the hot small block is performing flawlessly. Aesthetically, the engine bay is modeled after the car's defining 'less is more' approach; the hood, fenders and firewall are all finished in nice looking flat black paint that contrasts well with the silver engine block and there is hardly any brightwork to be found anywhere at all.

Underneath the car, power flows from a modern B&M Super Cooler equipped 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission, that was originally bolted under a fourth generation Camaro through a new driveshaft that's secured by a bolt-on driveshaft hoop to a completely rebuilt GM 10 bolt rear end. Housed within that original rear end is an Auburn Posi-traction unit with pavement pounding 3.73 gears that have no problem pinning the car's occupants to their seats. Holding that performance drivetrain off the ground is a complete Hotchkis performance suspension with an adjustable rear pinion angle, KYB performance shocks, power steering and four wheel power disc brakes. The cars spotless satin black floors are so clean that I doubt the car has ever seen significant road time at all and every single detail such as new stainless fuel lines, new stainless brake lines and a new stainless fuel tank has been completely sorted and rebuilt. At the corners of the car, a set of spectacular looking 17 inch Foose Nitrous wheels throw the power to the ground through 225/50 front and 255/50 rear Nitto Extreme Performance radials. The excellent Hotchkis suspension gives this car an awesome road hugging stance which, when combined with the modern engine and transmission provides excellent driving characteristics that are every bit as good as any modern muscle car.

Like the exterior, the car's interior is a masterful blend of old and new that features the comfort and convenience of modern technology wrapped in classic Chevrolet design. The 12-way power adjustable driver's seat, front passenger's seat and rear bench seat were all taken from a 2000 Camaro and, along with the traditional '65 Chevelle door panels recovered in Sierra Leathermate Snow White upholstery that literally glows under our showroom lighting. Between the seats, a 2002 Camaro console wears its original gray factory hue and houses a factory fourth generation Camaro shifter for the cars 4L60E automatic transmission. Below the console, new black carpet rides on thick Dynamat insulation and is protected by black carpeted floor mats. In front of the driver, a great looking black and chrome '65 Chevelle dash looks perfectly natural holding cool new Classic Industries gauges above controls for the cars Hot Rod air conditioning system and controls for the direct fit Ken Harrison AM/FM radio with MP3 compatibility. That direct fit radio sends sound to both kick panel mounted Infinity Kappa speakers and a rear Rockford Fosgate amplifier and subwoofer that are cleverly hidden below the car's rear package shelf. Connecting the driver to the road is a modern black Chevrolet steering wheel that sits on an Ididit steering column, features a red bowtie horn button and perfectly matches the dash pad. Security is enhanced by a keyless entry system that is complete with a vehicle alarm and door mounted Electra Life power windows and behind the cockpit, a custom lined and carpeted trunk looks better than the day the car rolled off GMs Atlanta assembly line.

One of the coolest things about this '65 Chevelle is the amount of documentation included in the sale. There are two folders full of information which contains enough part numbers and diagrams to literally rebuild the car if the new owner so desired. There's paperwork for the Hotchkis suspension system, paperwork for the Auburn rear end, paperwork for the B&M SuperCooler, paperwork for the Howell fuel injection and wiring system, paperwork for the Hooker headers and Flowmaster mufflers, paperwork for the Ken Harrison, Infinity and Rockford Fosgate sound system components, paperwork for the cars Hot Rod air conditioning, paperwork for the Ididit steering column, paperwork for the Classic Industries gauges and paperwork for the cars keyless entry system. Also included is reference materials about the engine install, hand written wiring guides for the cars custom wiring, a complete component list broken down by manufacturer, books and manuals that inspired parts of the build and many receipts, part numbers and hand written notes.

Sometimes the best cars are the ones that speak softly. No blower sticking up through the hood, no 20-inch rims on a slammed chassis, no wild graphics, just a clean and classy, well-constructed muscle car that was purpose built to look great and have the performance to back it up. With its classic good looks, modern performance hardware and outstanding build quality, this 1965 Chevelle Malibu is an absolute blast to drive and is instantly admired wherever it goes. Don't miss this chance to own a powerful well-sorted performance machine that is as timeless today as it was 46 years ago. Call now!
