MacNeish Certified Original Engine Daytona Yellow Camaro Z/28 DZ 302 V8 4-speed
This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 combines one of the most celebrated performance packages of the muscle car era with one of its boldest and most distinctive factory color combinations. Backed by a certificate of authenticity from Camaro guru Jerry MacNeish, it keeps its original DZ-code 302 V8 and matching 12-bolt Positraction rear intact. Backed by a full nut-and-bolt restoration, this Z/28 carries itself with the kind of authority that made the model a street legend.
The body is finished in Daytona Yellow with white stripes, a white vinyl top, and deluxe houndstooth interior. The combination is so unusual that even MacNeish called it “very rare” for a Z/28. The car was born with black stripes and a flat hood, but during the restoration the stripes were changed to white and a cowl hood was added, and the result flat-out works. The color ties perfectly into the interior and gives the car a crisp, high-impact look that stands out even among other 1969 Camaros. Spending most of its life in Arizona, the restoration allegedly retained the original sheet metal, and it shows in the tight panel gaps, straight lines, and deep polished finish. Chrome bumpers, stainless trim, emblems, and glass are all show-quality, adding sharp contrast to the bold paint. Rally wheels wrapped in Goodyear Wide Tread GT tires finish the look with the exact stance you would expect from a factory-fresh Z/28, only sharpened by the attention to detail in the build.
Under the hood sits the soul of the Z/28: the original DZ-code 302 small-block. Rated at 290 horsepower on paper but known to produce more than what GM was claiming when its full rev range was utilized, it was Chevrolet's way of putting a race motor on the street. This one has been rebuilt and detailed the way Camaro purists want to see it. The engine bay is crisp, clean, and factory-correct right down to hardware and finishes, the kind of presentation that supports its certification. Behind the engine is a Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission, rebuilt and paired to the original 12-bolt rear with 4.10 gears and Positraction. Together they deliver the sharp, mechanical driving feel that made the Z/28 a legend. The undercarriage is just as dialed-in, with suspension, power steering, and power brakes rebuilt to factory spec.
Inside, the deluxe white houndstooth interior has been restored with the same level of care as the exterior. White vinyl bolsters and patterned cloth inserts look showroom fresh, while woodgrain trim on the dash, console, and steering wheel adds depth and warmth. Power steering, the tilt column, wood-rimmed wheel, console, and U17 special instrumentation package with full gauge cluster and tachometer make it clear this Z/28 was ordered for a driver who wanted more than just straight-line speed. Everything from the carpet to the headliner presents as new.
With its rare Daytona Yellow over white color combination, numbers-matching pedigree, and MacNeish certification, this Z/28 strikes the balance between investment-grade collectible and street legend. It is a car that nails the details, one you can show with confidence and talk about with authority, but it also has the kind of personality that makes you want to turn the key, grab first gear, and let the 302 sing the way only a true Z/28 can.
