Restored FJ43 Land Cruiser 2F Inline-6 cyl 5-speed 4x4 Air Conditioning
This 1980 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ43 is a fully restored example that blends classic off-road capability with smart, functional upgrades. Built to explore, engineered to endure, and dialed in to thrive far beyond the trailhead, this long-wheelbase Toyota blends is equally at home deep in the wilderness or cruising on the open road. It's not a trailer queen. It's not a tribute build. This one's ready to be driven.
The body was completely disassembled, sandblasted, and refinished in a matte, factory-style Heath Gray. The fiberglass hardtop retains the classic silhouette while offering meaningful upgrades in insulation, corrosion resistance, and overall durability. The paintwork is smooth and even, and the panel fit is tight throughout. The truck rides on a set of black 15" steel wheels wrapped in 31x10.50 Kenda Klever M/T tires with a rear-mounted full-size spare, giving it a strong, purposeful stance. Modern LED headlights have been installed up front, improving nighttime visibility while preserving the original headlight bezels for a clean, factory-style appearance. All trim and badging have been properly restored or replaced to maintain the FJ's iconic look.
A correct Toyota 2F inline-six resides under the hood, presenting cleanly in a fully refinished engine bay. This 4.2-liter straight-six is known for low-end torque, long-term reliability, and the determination of a mountain goat. It starts easily, runs smoothly, and pairs to a H55F 5-speed manual transmission. The combination of 2F and H55F is a proven recipe, a kind of mechanical comfort food for off-road purists who appreciate a rig with confident trail manners and is also highway-friendly. Power is delivered through a later-model HF2A transfer case. The axles are factory Toyota units with 4.11 gearing, while the suspension has been upgraded with a 2" Old Man Emu setup for improved ride quality and trail capability. Braking is handled by a power-assisted system with discs up front and drums in the rear, providing confident stopping power without overcomplicating the original mechanical simplicity. And power-assisted steering and a hydraulic clutch add welcome refinement to its rugged driving experience.
Inside, the cabin has been fully reupholstered in high-grade brown vinyl, including a set of Corbeau front bucket seats and folding jump seats in the rear. The floor has been refinished and left bare for durability and easy cleaning. A lockable center console has been added between the front seats for secure storage. A modern Bluetooth-compatible, touchscreen stereo system has been installed in the dash, along with modern speakers, and the truck is now equipped with air conditioning for improved usability in warmer climates. A full roll cage has also been fitted, adding safety without compromising visibility or ease of access.
This FJ43 isn't a showpiece built for display. It was built with real-world exploration in mind. Every choice, from the drivetrain upgrades to the cabin refinements, was made to preserve the spirit of the classic Land Cruiser while eliminating the compromises that usually come with it. It still looks the part, but it no longer drives like an antiquated tractor. It's comfortable, capable, and genuinely usable on pavement, off-road, and everywhere in between.
