Is there a more famous high impact Mopar color than code FC7 In Violet Metallic? It is by far the most appealing hue to come out of Chryslers hip 1970s 'brighter is better' muscle car mindset; and when executed correctly it is one of the most timeless and dynamic colors to ever adorn classic Detroit metal. Expertly applied over a fully restored 'Cuda body which includes brand new floorpans and high quality reproduction quarters, this cars straight and flat In Violet paint absolutely glows under its trademark black organisol horizontal panels. The result is a durable, modern finish which creates a high energy visual masterpiece that oozes the bare knuckle confidence and old school appeal which made this Mopar the stuff of legends.
Thanks to a fresh frame off rotisserie restoration, the body's crisp shut lines and spectacular panel alignment present much better today than when it rolled off Dodge Main's assembly line almost 41 years ago. Up front, a satin black stainless trimmed 'Cuda grille holds clear headlights and parking lights above a showroom fresh front bumper. Below that bumper, two clear driving lights are centered between pristine AAR 'eyebrow' spoilers which give the body a wider, more aggressive appearance. Behind the grille, an AAR exclusive fiberglass hood is correctly secured by two hood pins, shows no cracks or stress marks of any kind and displays an authentic suede paint finish. At the back of that hood, like-new glass is bordered by excellent looking dent free stainless trim, body-matched optional sport mirrors and a flawless black vinyl top which blends perfectly with the textured organisol paint. At the sides of the car, flush satin finish door handles and cool gold Chrysler pentastar emblems combine with pristine body-length All American Racers strobe stripes and correct stainless side exit exhaust tips to provide an authentic race ready appearance. Behind those stripes, a great looking satin black 'ducktail' spoiler sits above a traditional satin black 'Cuda rear valence which hangs like-new tail lights and a cool silver “'cuda” emblem above a second show worthy chrome bumper with correct chrome guards. Unlike most dressed and decaled cars which tend to throw good taste out the window, this AAR 'Cuda seamlessly balances a cool personality with flashy good looks to create a timeless muscle car with excellent appeal.
Pull the pins on the flat black fiberglass hood and you'll find a date correct 340 cubic inch Mopar Trans Am block. Although SCCA Trans Am race cars were limited to 302 cubic inches, Plymouth decided that the 340 was a better fit for its street car, and the extra cubic inches generally made the AARs faster than their Mustang and Camaro competition. Specifically designed for high performance applications, the beefed up 340 utilizes three 2 barrel carburetors, a dual plane aluminum intake, a dual points ignition system, unique high flow cylinder heads, a bigger cylinder bore with domed pistons, a more aggressive camshaft and a forged steel crankshaft to create a hefty 10.5 to 1 compression ratio. Due to SCCA regulations and increasing insurance costs, the motor's output was understated to 290 horsepower on paper, but in reality it creates somewhere north of 315 fire breathing horses and easily disposes of most stop light challengers even today. Whatever the number, the engine bay of this particular AAR is in brilliant show-ready condition, with immaculate detailing and exact finishes throughout. The cars awesome purple paint provides an electrifying contrast against the 340s fresh coat of Hemi Orange and the massive correctly decaled Six Pack air cleaner looks great peeking through the cars functional black hood. And as with almost any restored Mopar these days all the little details have been correctly duplicated or restored; correct hoses and clamps run to and from a correct 26 inch radiator, there's a correct reproduction Mopar battery which still sports a new paper tag, and even the plug wires are authentic looking Chrysler Electronic Suppression units.
The high-winding small block churns power through a tough A727 TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic that was professionally rebuilt and equipped with a new torque converter just last year (the receipt is included with the sale). And while you might think an automatic is counter-intuitive for a car like this, remember that the AAR street cars were still built to appeal to a wide variety of buyers. Plus, with factory equipped power steering and the stalwart A727s crisp shifts you'll easily get used to just stomping, steering and enjoying this Cudas thoroughly modern cornering abilities. Included with the Trans-Am package is a few minor suspension modifications to help the car hook up quicker and perform better. An 8.75 inch Sure Grip rear axle with 3.55 gears is held up by specially tuned shocks and re-cambered rear springs which also lift the rear of the car roughly two inches to accommodate the unique side-exit exhaust system. Braking is handled by a factory equipped power front discs and heavy duty 11 inch rear drums, and the car proudly stands on a new set of 15 inch Rallye wheels featuring what is generally regarded as the first application of staggered tire sizes with new 225/60 front and 255/60 rear BF Goodrich T/A radials. Aesthetically, the bottom of this 'Cuda is as close to perfect as it can get with spotless purple floors, a highly detailed restored suspension and fantastic sounding factory replacement mufflers.
Inside, the cars well-executed, fully restored black vinyl interior is simple, functional and showroom fresh. The driver and passenger high-back bucket and rear bench seats are showroom fresh and show no signs of any wear at all. Below the seats, new black carpet is protected by heavy duty rubber 'Cuda mats, and above the seats a taut and wrinkle-free headliner stretches from door to door and window to window. On the doors, new molded panels proudly hold the 'Cuda name amid subtle stainless trim, and both the pistol-grip shifter and optional wood grain steering wheel perfectly match the cars full console and slick Rallye gauge pod. In front of the driver, rebuilt gauges have all been fully re-faced to better than new status, and an original Chrysler AM radio still lives in the center of the dash. Behind the cockpit, you'll find a nicely finished trunk with a new mat and a correct collapsible spare tire that's complete with an inflator bottle and a full jack assembly.
