Description

Some of the most memorable muscle cars are sleepers, unassuming machines that hide serious performance beneath factory-style sheet metal. Dodge never officially built a 440-powered Dart, but enthusiasts have long recognized the potential of pairing the brand's big-block with its compact A-body. This 1969 Dodge Dart carries that tradition forward with a rotisserie restoration that left no detail untouched. The result is a car that looks relatively mild at first glance but delivers tremendous performance once the key is turned, capturing the true spirit of Mopar ingenuity and enthusiast creativity.

The exterior shows just how meticulously this car was restored. Finished in its original B7 Medium Blue Metallic, the body is laser straight with precise gaps and a finish polished to a glass-like shine. The fiberglass Six Pack hood fits well and adds muscle car presence, while fender-mounted turn signals, a chin spoiler, and sparkling chrome and stainless trim elevate the look. Painted steel wheels wear poverty caps and fresh BFGoodrich tires, with extra-wide rears tucked under subtly tubbed wheel wells to accommodate the fattest tires the car could swallow. The stance is spot on, balancing factory correctness with the attitude of a purpose-built street machine.

Beneath the hood, the sleeper pretense quickly disappears. A 1971 Chrysler RB 440 cubic inch V8 sits between the fenders, topped with a factory-style aluminum intake and triple Holley carburetors in Six Pack formation. Dyno-tuned, the setup delivers 360 horsepower and 451 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels, translating to well over 400 horsepower at the crank. Correct air cleaner and valve covers complement show-quality detailing, while upgrades such as coated headers, reproduction dated plug wires, a larger oil pan, and a factory-style electronic ignition system add both reliability and performance. Even the reproduction Mopar battery, clamps, and hoses were sourced to maintain authenticity. The engine bay itself is spotless, painted in glossy blue, with the original fender tag in place and every accessory restored or replaced. Cooling comes from a restored radiator with a new shroud and fan.

Power is sent through a restored A833 4-speed manual transmission with a Hurst shifter and wood-grain knob, paired with a fully rebuilt clutch linkage. Out back, the 8.75-inch rear end houses 3.23 gears. Underneath, the car's rotisserie restoration is on full display. The floors are immaculate and painted body color, reinforced with welded subframe connectors to keep the car solid under load. The suspension was completely rebuilt with new springs, bushings, shocks, and both front and rear sway bars. The braking system has been fully restored and upgraded with front discs and new lines, while the dual exhaust system flows through coated headers into turbo mufflers for an aggressive but manageable sound.

Inside, the white vinyl interior contrasts beautifully with the blue body and has been restored with great care. New upholstery, headrests, door panels, headliner, visors, and mirror all present as fresh. The carpet fits tightly with matching mats, while the dash has been comprehensively restored with a new pad, bezels, heater controls, glovebox liner, and gauges. Even under the dash, everything looks new. The correct Hurst shifter rises from the floor with its proper chrome bezel and boot, while the only clear nod to modern performance is the AutoMeter Sport-Comp Monster tach tucked neatly under the dash. The trunk is equally impressive, finished in body-color blue with mint metal throughout. The wheel wells have been tubbed to accommodate the wide rear wheels, yet the work looks factory-correct in execution.

Every inch of this Dart speaks to the level of detail and pride that went into its build. From the straightness of the body and jewelry-like shine of the trim to the dyno-proven strength of its Six Pack 440, it combines the visual restraint of a factory compact with the raw performance of a big-block Mopar. Traditionally handsome, brutally quick, and built to a standard that makes it equally show-ready and street-capable, this Dart is the definition of a well-executed sleeper. For the enthusiast who wants authenticity, craftsmanship, and serious performance wrapped into one package, it's hard to imagine a better choice.
