One-Owner 6,159 Mile GT500KR Supercharged 5.4L V8 540hp 6-Speed
The 2008 Shelby GT500KR revived one of the most famous names in Mustang history: King of the Road. Built to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1968 KR, it marked a renewed partnership between Ford's SVT division and Shelby Automobiles. Each KR began life as a GT500 coupe assembled at Ford's Flat Rock, Michigan plant before being shipped to Carroll Shelby's facility in Las Vegas, where it received performance, handling, and visual upgrades worthy of its badge. Production was capped at just 1,000 cars for 2008, followed by 712 more in 2009, making a total of 1,712 modern KRs worldwide. This particular example has remained with its original owner since new and has been driven occasionally to keep all systems in proper operating condition, a rarity among surviving GT500KRs and a testament to its careful preservation.
Finished in Silver Metallic with Vista Blue stripes, this example, CSM 08KR0193, is one of only 476 painted in this combination for 2008. It has logged just 6,159 original miles and remains in exceptional, collector-grade condition. The car retains all original documentation, factory markings, and one-owner provenance, representing one of the finest surviving early-number KRs.
The exterior sets this car apart from any other GT500. Each KR received a carbon-fiber hood with functional heat extractors, carbon-fiber mirror caps, a unique front splitter, and twist-lock hood pins reminiscent of the late-1960s original. The 18x9.5-inch forged Alcoa wheels were exclusive to the model and are still wrapped in their correct Goodyear rubber, complete with the “Wingedfoot” sidewall emblem. Distinctive badging, serialized plaques, and a “GT500KR” decklid callout complete the presentation.
Under the hood, Ford's hand-built 5.4L supercharged DOHC V8 produces 540 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque, up 40 horsepower from the standard GT500 thanks to a Ford Racing cold-air intake, revised ignition mapping, and a freer-flowing exhaust. The power is channeled through a Tremec TR-6060 six-speed manual transmission and a 3.73:1 rear axle, delivering stronger midrange pull and quicker acceleration. Suspension tuning was a collaborative effort between Ford SVT and Shelby, featuring unique springs, dampers, sway bars, and geometry calibration for flatter cornering and sharper feedback. Stopping power comes from Brembo 14-inch front rotors with four-piston aluminum calipers and 11.8-inch vented rears, backed by Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires developed specifically for the KR.
Inside, the cabin keeps the premium GT500 layout but adds just enough Shelby flavor to make it feel special. The black leather seats feature GT500KR embroidery and remain in excellent condition, showing minimal wear. A serialized CSM dash plaque matches the underhood tag, and Shelby sill plates round out the subtle touches. The cue ball shifter gives a proper throwback feel, while the leather-wrapped steering wheel and clean dash layout keep things focused on the drive. Standard features include power windows, cruise control, air conditioning, and the Shaker 1000 audio system, which delivers strong sound even with the supercharger in full voice. It's a cabin that blends daily comfort with collector-grade detail.
The sale includes the Shelby owner's packet, Shelby Automobiles window sticker, Ford window sticker, Shelby build checklist, Certificate of Authenticity, original shipping tag, two sets of keys with original dealer tags, and assorted factory literature and press materials.
Nearly two decades later, the GT500KR remains a defining modern muscle car that bridged Shelby's original brute-force philosophy with SVT's precision engineering. Few surviving examples can claim single-owner provenance, low mileage, and completely original presentation, and CSM 08KR0193 checks every box. It stands today as one of the finest examples of Ford and Shelby's modern collaboration, built with purpose and preserved with pride.
