'56 Bel Air Restomod 6.2L LS3 V8 Automatic Art Morrison Chassis IRS A/C
Chevrolet's 1956 Bel Air represents one of the most recognizable designs of the Tri-Five era, blending jet-age styling with the performance potential that has made these cars favorites among restorers and custom builders for decades. The example offered here has been the subject of a comprehensive restoration and carefully executed restomod build. Built with both show field presence and confident road manners in mind, the car combines LS power, an Art Morrison chassis and a custom-tailored interior
Finished in an attractive metallic blue over metallic silver two-tone, the body presents a tasteful interpretation of Chevrolet's iconic Bel Air styling. Traditional trim, chrome and badging remain intact, preserving the unmistakable character that defines the model, while subtle modern touches enhance the presentation. LED '56-style tail lamps provide improved visibility without altering the factory look, and the car's athletic stance immediately signals its modern underpinnings. Completing the exterior are 18" Forgeline CH3P wheels finished in gunmetal with polished lips, wrapped in BFGoodrich G-Force tires that fill the arches perfectly and complement the car's lowered posture.
Power comes from a 6.2L LS3 crate V8 that has been carefully detailed to match the car's refined presentation. A fabricated intake manifold feeds twin intakes through custom polished tubing, while custom 'Bel Air' script coil covers provide a subtle nod to the car's heritage. Polished stainless long tube headers feed a polished stainless dual exhaust system, and the entire engine bay is exceptionally clean thanks to a smoothed firewall and thoughtful detailing. Backing the engine is a SuperMatic 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission, sending power through an Art Morrison chassis that dramatically elevates the car's road manners. A Strange rear end with 3.50 gearing and a limited-slip differential help get power to the ground. Polished, tubular control arms up front, JRi coilovers at all four corners and a independent rear suspension provide modern handling, while Wilwood four wheel power disc brakes and power rack-and-pinion steering deliver confident stopping and precise control.
Inside, the Bel Air retains its classic dashboard design while incorporating modern comfort and functionality. Custom leather bucket seats trimmed in light grey provide a comfortable and supportive driving environment, contrasted by dark blue carpet and a body-matched dash that continues the elegant two-tone theme. The classic Bel Air dash presentation remains intact but now houses Dakota Digital gauges and a Custom Autosound AM/FM/Aux head unit, along with controls for modern air conditioning. A custom full-length center console adds convenient storage and integrated cupholders, while a classic Bel Air steering wheel mounted to a tilting column completes the blend of vintage style and modern usability. The attention to detail continues in the trunk, which is fully upholstered to match the interior for a clean, finished presentation.
Combining timeless Tri-Five styling with modern engineering, this 1956 Bel Air delivers the best of both worlds. With its LS power, Art Morrison chassis, custom interior and striking color combination, the car possesses the presence to compete confidently on the show field while remaining fully capable as a rewarding driver. It is a thoughtfully executed restomod that honors Chevrolet's original design while elevating it with contemporary performance, craftsmanship and usability.
