Frame Up Built Dart GT 500 HEMI V8 A727 3 Speed Auto
Whoever says you can't own a nice Mopar without mortgaging the house obviously hasn't been to our RK Motors Charlotte showroom. As your number one source for all things Chrysler, we take pride in selling Auburn Hills' nastiest and most storied creations whether they're investment grade of not. And this wicked 1969 Dart GT convertible, with its 500 cubic inch Hemi, race ready drivetrain and eyeball popping coat of Sublime Green paint, is definitely one of the coolest Dodges we've ever featured! So if you're in the market for a super-clean street bruiser that you can show, build on and enjoy for years; why not kick the summer off behind the wheel of some incredibly priced, old school Mopar muscle?
After spending most of its life in the dry California air, this awesome Dart convertible was the perfect starting point for an outrageous frame off build which mixes a killer big block Hemi with classic Mopar attitude. It's mostly original body, which includes doors that open and close as solid as the day they left the showroom floor, was stripped to bare metal and fitted with new, high quality quarter panels that, along with a thorough block sanding, ensured a virtually flawless surface. Once that surface was completely clean and fully prepped, a positively glowing coat of Chrysler code FJ5 Sublime Green was sealed under a thick clearcoat shell which accents the car's no-nonsense, old school looks with a glossy 21st century shine. The result is one super slick Mopar road warrior that has been massaged into a serious street machine which carries the same visual punch as an airport fire truck!
There's just something about a brightly colored Mopar muscle car that appeals to pretty much everyone. Maybe it's their wow factor; maybe it's the sense of strength they convey; or maybe it's simply the surface development of the car's panels. Whatever the case may be, this Dart carries all that classic Chrysler edginess under a whole slew of details which highlight its clean and modern lines. At the front of the car, a polished, body-width grille hangs correct headlights and clear marker lights above a show-worthy chrome bumper. Above that grille, the cars glowing green hood holds a giant Hemi scoop in front of like-new glass which is framed by pristine stainless trim, cleared by silver stainless wipers and capped by a white vinyl top. At the sides of the car, multi-faceted body panels, which add unmistakable vintage flavor to the car's design, hang brand new marker lights and traditional chrome door handles next to a correct chrome driver's side mirror and a trick billet fuel cap. And at the back of the car, ridged fenders flow past a white GT tail decal into a second pristine body width chrome bumper which rides below great looking tail lights and a polished rear valence.
When this Sublime Dart rumbled into our showroom, it caused such a commotion that the entire staff came out of their offices just to check it out. And when we lifted the hood and found a 500 cubic inch 968 Hemi that's been decked, bored .030 over and completely rebuilt by Riverside Boat and Performance Motors in Moreno Valley, California, we certainly weren't disappointed! At the top of that engine, a polished air filter funnels wind through a reusable filter element into a giant Holley 4-barrel carburetor that's cinched to a chrome intake, polished stainless fuel lines and an underhood fuel pressure gauge. At the sides of that intake, stock heads, which have been fitted with Hayes studs, prop pristine chrome valve covers over a fully balanced rotating assembly which includes JE 10.5 pistons with Hayes rings, shot peened and sized connecting rods, an Eagle stroker crank and Hayes main studs. Fire is provided by a Painless Wiring harness which sends spark through a Mopar Performance ignition system to a Mopar points distributor and high performance plug wires. Cooling is provided by a polished aluminum radiator which sends water past two quick spinning electric fans and a polished overflow tank to a high performance water pump. And lubrication flows via an external oil system to and from a seven quart Milodon oil pan. At the sides of the motor, ceramic coated long tube headers send spent gases into a ceramic coated true dual exhaust system. And at the front of the motor, fresh V-belts spin a chrome Powermaster alternator between billet brackets, a full set of billet pulleys and a high quality Milodon gear drive. Aesthetically, the big black block provides an excellent contrast to the cars smoothed, Sublime Green engine compartment; and details like a full set of braided hoses and correct dual horns make it a well-rounded, show worthy piece of mechanical art.
Like its exterior panels, the bottom of this Dart is expertly restored, covered in a slick coat of Sublime Green urethane, and in excellent shape! The powerful Hemi engine sends its thrust through a new, race-prepped A727 Torqueflite 3-speed automatic transmission which has been equipped with a manual valve body, a 2500-2800 RPM stall converter and an aluminum transmission cooler. That transmission is connected to a traditional 8.75 Sure Grip rear end which has been narrowed by 11/16ths on each side and stuffed with a limited slip differential, Dutchman axles and solid 3.55 gears. And that awesome drivetrain is held off the ground by a rebuilt front torsion bar and rear leaf spring suspension which includes fresh shocks, quick ratio manual steering and fresh bearings and bushings. Exhaust is handled by a ceramic coated true dual system which is complete with an X-pipe crossover and great sounding Flowmaster mufflers. Braking is handled by traditional manual front discs and rear drums which have been rebuilt all the way up to their fresh stainless lines. And power flows to the ground through 14 inch front American Racing Torque Thrust IIs which wear 195/75 Signet DSR radials and 15 inch rear American Racing Torque Thrust IIs which wear 28x11.50 D.O.T. approved Hoosier Quick Time slicks. This Dart's frame and floors are solid and display no signs of rust or serious weathering; and everything from its stainless fuel tank to its well-integrated sub frame connectors is restoration fresh!
If ever there was a car that featured a color combination which virtually defines the word contrast, this Dart would be it. One glance over the Sublime Green doors reveals a bright white and black vinyl interior which presents just as well as when it rolled off the showroom floor. The correct front bucket and rear bench seats feel almost as good as they look and provide a firm plateau for both cruising and spirited driving. And the fade-free dash has been retrofitted with a standard three pack of Auto Meter Pro-Comp Ultra-Lite gauges. Between the seats, a pristine full length console props a large Auto Meter Sport tachometer in front of a super cool pistol grip shifter. And at the sides of the seats, custom Sublime Green door frames highlight correct “GT” emblems and fresh white panels. At the bottom of the car, new black carpet is protected by color-keyed carpeted mats. At the front of the car, a classic Mopar Tuff wheel sits atop a tilt steering column. And at the back of the car, a fully restored and freshly carpeted trunk holds an Optima gel cell battery
Documentation included with the sale of this awesome Dart is a service manual, a stack of restoration pictures, a categorized binder of restoration receipts, a cam card, and a few trophies.
