Description

One of the many great things about the muscle car era was the Detroit automakers ability to inject excitement and performance into EVERY model on their showroom floors. That translated to awesome ground pounding machines for virtually every buyer and a healthy list of go-fast options which allowed those buyers to specify whatever combination of equipment they wanted. Take, for example, this 1969 Dodge Coronet R/T. Dressed in a correct and highly desirable black and white color combination, and rocking an original big block 440 Magnum V8 under its hood, it's the kind of car you can take to the local strip to beat up crosstown rivals all day, or take on an everyday grocery run. If you're in the market for a solid, highly original muscle car that will provide years of great weekend memories, this expertly restored Coronet is your ticket!

Fresh out of a four year, 2,000 hour nut and bolt rotisserie restoration, this stunning 1969 Dodge is one of the finest Coronet R/Ts on the planet. When one person restores the body of a car from beginning to end, it displays a consistency of vision and quality that are unmatched. And everything, from stripping this cars original X9 Black paint to blocking its entire body, spraying its new PPG DBU basecoat, and buffing its mirror-like PPG High Solids clearcoat was handled by one meticulous restoration expert. The cars tough, slab-sided body has been straightened and finessed until it looks smoother and lines up better than anything that rolled out of a factory in 1969. And its glossy two-stage urethane paint accurately reproduces Chryslers deep X9 Black finish while providing a wet-look shine that is only achieved with today's highly advanced paint technology. The result is a super slick road warrior which wraps brutal performance and a high level of accuracy in classic Mopar lines with killer good looks.

With its rare black and white color combo and impressive attention to detail, I suspect this Coronet will be one of those classics that someone sees, falls in love with and buys right off the showroom floor. At the front of the car, a body-width silver trimmed grille hangs a bright red “R/T” emblem and clear headlights above a good looking body-width chrome bumper and clear, round parking lights. Above that grille, the cars smooth black hood, which wears two functional hood scoops that have been trimmed in new chrome and branded with subtle “440” emblems, flows to a new black vinyl top which sits between like-new stainless trimmed glass, reproduction chrome roof rail mouldings and correct Dodge fratzogs. Below that vinyl top, multi-faceted body panels, which add an unmistakable vintage flavor to the design, hang new stainless wheel trim, dent-free satin finished rocker mouldings, a pristine driver's side mirror and cool fender mounted side scoops in front of a bright white R/T stripe. And at the back of the car, a satin black rear valence centers factory fresh tail lights between pristine “Dodge” and “R/T” decklid emblems, a second body-width chrome bumper, and rectangular stainless steel exhaust tips.

Bored, balanced and currently wearing only 500 break-in miles since a complete rebuild, this slick Coronets 375 horsepower numbers matching Magnum 440 big block is spectacular in every measurable way. At the top of the Hemi Orange block, the cars original and professionally rebuilt 4618S AVS 4-barrel carburetor is housed within a fully functional Ramcharger air induction system which inhales so much air that you might worry about the hood caving in at full throttle. At the base of that carburetor, the cars original 2806178 intake manifold sits between original 906 heads which open and close thanks to a slightly larger Comp Cams hydraulic cam and combust thanks to an original crank, original rods and new TRW 10:1 pistons. At the sides of the block, restored original exhaust manifolds, which are numbered 2843992 and 2893879 respectively, send gases into a great sounding true dual exhaust system. And at the back of the block a correct points distributor sends spark through correct reproduction Chrysler wires. Lubrication for the big engine is provided by a 65 psi high volume oil pump; and cooling is provided by the cars original, re-cored 22 inch radiator, an original 7 blade fan, and an original fan shroud. Like the engine itself, the cars satin black engine bay is highly detailed and impressive from its correct master cylinder, rebuilt original wiper motor and correct reproduction Mopar battery to its accurate decals, correct hoses and correct clamps.

With precise shifts and excellent low end acceleration, this Coronet definitely has the performance to back up its sinister looks. Behind the legendary Chrysler big block engine you'll find a rebuilt A727 Torqueflite 3-speed automatic transmission which sends power through a 2400 torque converter to an original 8.75 inch Sure Grip rear end which is chock-full of stout 3.91 gears. Naturally, the car's front double A-arm and rear leaf suspension has been completely restored and includes: a rebuilt power steering system which utilizes an original pump, a new box and new hoses; original rear springs; and new shocks at every wheel. At the center of the car, a free flowing 2.5 inch galvanized steel exhaust system sends gases through an H-pipe crossover to Cherry Bomb two chamber Turbo mufflers and traditional stainless tips. And at the corners of the car, new stainless brake lines and new brake hoses supply fully rebuilt and correctly painted hydraulic drum brakes. The cars restored floors have been coated in semi-gloss black, a new 17 gallon stainless fuel tank supplies fuel through new stainless fuel lines, and the entire chassis has been detailed with correct paint dobs and pencil marks. Power flows to the ground through a mandatory set of chrome Magnum 500 wheels which wear meaty 215/70 front and 235/70 rear BF Goodrich Silvertown radials.

This Coronets fender tag says it was originally equipped with a W1 White interior; and accordingly, it has been restored with a mix of original and new parts which provide jaw-dropping good looks that you just can't find in today's cars. The rear bench seat is 100% original and the front buckets are original frames which have been equipped with correct reproduction covers. At the bottom of the seats, new black carpet props a correct chrome shifter in the middle of a correct center console; and at the top of the seats, a tight black headliner frames a fully functional dome light. The cars original dash hangs fully rebuilt gauges, which include an optional tachometer, beside an original 2 watt Chrysler Solid State AM radio which sports Chrysler's cool thumb-wheel knobs. In front of the driver, a restored original steering wheel sits on a rebuilt original steering column. At the sides of the seats, correct door panels hang new armrests under fresh stainless trim and wood applique. And behind the cockpit, a fully restored trunk prop a full-size spare tire between a reproduction mat and a correct lid decal.

With a whole list of original components and a highly detailed restoration that was completed by expert Mopar builders, this awesome '69 Coronet is about as close to original as a restored car can get. It's fast, comfortable, stylish, and when you take a minute to look at the quality of its workmanship, you realize that the cost of restoring it to this level is about twice what it takes to drive it out of our RK Motors Charlotte showroom. If you're in the market for an outstanding old school muscle car that can be experienced and enjoyed for years to come, this broad shouldered Dodge is just what you've been looking for!
