Description

As Americans, we love our trucks! Even in the midst of $3 and $4 per gallon gas, they're consistently the best-selling vehicles on the market. And whether it's because of simple nostalgia or their long list of extremely useful design virtues, one thing is certain: trucks NEVER go out of style. That means if you're in the market for a collector vehicle that is guaranteed to hold its appeal for a very long time, you just can't go wrong with this classic 1957 Chevrolet 3100. Featuring a vintage Thriftmaster motor, a liquid smooth body and a fully restored original-style interior, this slick Task Force Series truck combines rock solid drivability with awesome 50s style. If you're in the market for something that's every bit as fun as it is cool, this awesome '57 Chevy is exactly what you've been looking for!

As the beneficiary of a recent high quality frame-off restoration; every aspect of this '57 Chevy Task Force truck has been meticulously restored to both preserve the appeal of its original design and create a more roadworthy drive. The trucks expressive body panels have been stripped, massaged until they're straighter than anything that came out of a GM factory in 1957, and then bathed in a rich coat of dark green paint. Once the killer paint dried, a protective coat of clear was meticulously applied and buffed to an impressive wet-look shine. The result is a trophy winner in farmer's overalls which is sure to gain as many fans on a summertime grocery run as it does at the local car shows. This isn't just some garden-variety truck; it's a utilitarian show piece that's capable of competing at the highest levels and bringing home big trophies.

Introduced as the successor to GMs venerable Advanced Design trucks, the Task Force Series has become one most desirable and collectible truck lines ever created. This great looking Chevrolet 3100 wraps excellent proportions in a classic and timeless design language which features a few 1957-exclusive details. At the front of the truck, a one year only 'wide mouth' grille is centered between traditional chrome trimmed headlights and bright bullet-style parking lights. Below that grille, a show worthy chrome bumper wraps around the corners of the front fenders; and above that grille, a 1957-only, Bel Air inspired hood wears a pristine red, blue and chrome Chevrolet emblem. Behind the hood, a like-new curved windshield is, along with like-new side and back glass, trimmed in fresh weatherstripping and bordered by a professionally applied gold pin stripe. And behind the cab, new Oak bed planks are held down by stainless hardware and body-matched skid strips. At the sides of the truck, correct red and chrome “Chevrolet 3100” fender emblems ride in front of correct chrome mirrors and door handles; and awesome metal running board steps, which feature blue and black bowtie inlays, ride below a stainless gas cap and new Oak side boards. And at the back of the truck, an embossed Chevrolet tailgate which features awesome white and gray lettering hangs above pristine round tail lights and a second showroom fresh chrome bumper.

Raise the hood on this cool '57 Chevy 3100 and you'll find a correct 235 cubic inch Thriftmaster inline six cylinder. Introduced for use in large trucks, and regarded as one of the all-time great Chevrolet engines, the Thriftmaster is a favorite among vintage GM truck buyers because of its simple design, adequate power and excellent durability. At the top of the motor, a correctly decaled gloss black air cleaner sits on a correct Rochester 1-barrel carburetor which is fed by both stainless and braided fuel lines. Below the carburetor, a chrome “Thriftmaster” branded valve cover rides above a fresh points distributor which sends fire from a fresh coil to factory replacement plug wires. On the left side of the motor, coated intake and exhaust manifolds breathe through the engines unique siamesed ports; and in front of the engine, a modern alternator and a correct black fan spin behind a correct, polished radiator. Under hood detailing is extensive as glossy green paint flows down the smooth firewall to provide an excellent contrast to prerequisite satin black fenders. And all new belts and hoses combine with fresh wiring and a new reproduction Delco battery to create a truck which is ready to be reliably driven to any show or weekend cruise night. Originally built for hauling and working, this truck is certainly no race car, but motivation is swift, sure and steady; and best of all, you'll have a blast turning heads and taking in the sights!

Crawling underneath this solid old Chevy reveals a clean undercarriage that is free from both damage caused by Mother Nature and run-ins with other cars. In fact, based on looks alone, it appears that this truck hasn't seen a rainy road or been anywhere near a mud puddle since its thorough restoration. The Thriftmasters power flows from a standard equipment 4-speed manual transmission to a solid driveshaft which turns a sturdy rear end. That rear end pushes the truck on correct solid axles which are shackled to restored leaf springs and fresh shocks. Steering is provided by a manual rack which provides as much authenticity as your biceps can handle. And quick stops and solid calf muscles come courtesy of factory equipped manual drum brakes. At the center of the truck, a mandrel bent factory replacement exhaust system breathes through a polished bullet style muffler and a mirror-like stainless tip. And at the corners of the truck, 15 inch painted steel wheels spin pristine Chevrolet center caps inside of bright gold pinstripes, fresh stainless trim rings and 235/75 Multi-Mile Matrix wide whitewall tires. The detailing on the underside of this 3100 is simple and purposeful with a class and charm that personifies the universal appeal of both vintage trucks and 50s era Detroit steel.

Inside the truck, a fully restored and extremely inviting soft gray interior takes you right back to the simpler days of the 1950s. The two-tone dash, which is finished in a combination of gloss and satin finish gray paint, hangs a crystal clear gauge pod with a turquoise speedometer needle next to new chrome knobs, a correct AM radio and a glove box mounted Sony CD player. In front of that dash, a firm vinyl and cloth bench seat wears an attractive gray pattern which is mimicked on both the headliner and door panels to add a bit of luxury to an otherwise utilitarian design. And under the dash, like-new gray carpet props color-matched floor mats next to traditional rubber padded pedals and a floor mounted starter switch. Modern three-point seatbelts have been installed for greater safety; and pristine chrome door and window handles combine with an original 4-speed shifter and a slick black painted and red detailed steering wheel to connect the driver to the road. With a nice mix of traditional ruggedness and classic appeal, this well-done interior is the perfect place to spend a Sunday afternoon enjoying the countryside.

Documentation included with this sale is a reproduction owner's manual and a 1957 Chevrolet Truck shop manual.

It's a pretty rare thing to see a show ready classic truck in our RK Motors Charlotte showroom because they sell almost as fast as we post them. And quite honestly, finding true to form 1957 Chevrolet trucks that are as nice as this 3100 is becoming a pretty difficult task because they're an excellent foundation for wild street machines and they enjoy massive aftermarket support. Don't miss this chance to own an iconic piece of automotive Americana which is sure to be a big hit wherever it goes!
