Mustang Boss 302
Frame Up Restored Documented Mustang Boss 302 4 Speed
Perhaps you've seen our recent Boss 302 sales, including two that set new price guide records, and figured that your opportunity to own a legit, restored Boss 302 were once again gone. Well what if I told you that this is a real 1969 Boss 302 dressed in the rarest color combination of them all, with a recent high-quality restoration, all for a bargain price? Most real Ford fans would say, “Hand me the phone, I have a call to make.”
We're standing by to take your call, but in the meantime, let me tell you about this slick Boss. The Boss 302 was new in 1969, and as a result, they built only 1628 of them, making any Boss in any color a rare pony. But only 178 of those were dressed in Wimbledon White, and of those, only a handful received the gorgeous Dark Red Kiwi interior, so it's rare, too. Still haven't picked up the phone?
And yes, it's a real Boss, not a clone or “recreation.” Here's the door tag information:

G 302 4v V8 Boss

As you can see from the photos, this isn't a project car or even a driver-grade restoration, but a high-quality piece with correct detailing throughout. The 1969 Mustang fastback is arguably the best-looking Mustang ever, and the Boss 302 treatment only exaggerates its aggressive lines. The bodywork is very nicely done, with great gaps throughout and no evidence that this car was ever rusty or damaged. The Wimbledon White finish has been duplicated in two-stage urethane for a brilliant shine, and correct Boss 302 graphics were applied along the flanks. It's also refreshing to see that the restorer chose not to add a Shaker hood to this car, and instead retained its original specifications, which can only help values.
All the chrome and stainless was restored as well, and it shows quite well against the white paint. A blacked-out grille with correct Mustang emblem offset to the driver's side as well as the inboard high-beam headlamps. There's also the requisite chin spoiler, but no rear wing or window slats, making this low-option Boss even more unique among its highly optioned siblings. Perhaps the original owner was thinking more of performance than style, which was the Boss's forte.
At this price, you'd probably expect a grungy engine bay, but with this amazing car, you're treated to a freshly rebuilt and highly detailed 302 cubic inch V8 that snarls and barks like it should. It isn't matching numbers, but it is a proper 302 dressed in full Boss livery, including Ford Blue engine paint, a proper high rise intake, and details like hoses and clamps, decals, and even a Motorcraft oil filter. The chrome air cleaner and long tube headers are probably a nice performance boost, and the chrome “Powered by Ford” valve covers aren't technically correct, but those are the only visible non-stock components. Note things like the Autolite voltage regulator on the inner fender, a reproduction Motorcraft battery, the yellow-top ignition coil, and the unique large-diameter pulley on the alternator, designed for high-RPM operation. If you were thinking this Boss's reasonable price tag meant cut corners, guess again.
Underneath, there's a Toploader 4-speed manual feeding a 9-inch full of optional 3.91 gears, which make the most of the high-revving 302's power curve. The chassis is remarkably clean and solid, and it's obvious that the car has not been driven much since it was completed, with only shakedown miles showing. The exhaust system is a custom setup with an X-pipe that sounds absolutely amazing, like you're back on the Trans-Am circuit in 1970. The floors are fresh, and while they don't show the standard red oxide/overspray pattern that concours cars do, you can't complain that this one isn't nicely detailed and exceptionally clean. The suspension and brakes have been fully rebuilt, the gas tank is new, and all the bushings have been replaced. Cool Magnum 500 wheels wear new 235/60/15 BFGoodrich T/A radials to complete the look.
This Boss's most unique calling card, however, is the gorgeous Dark Red Kiwi interior, a wonderful contrast to all the black muscle car interiors out there. It's all new, too, including door panels, carpets, headliner, seat covers, and even the dash pad, all of which are exactly the right shade of red. Oddly enough, a tachometer was optional on the Boss 302, but the standard gauges have been fully rebuilt and are sharp and crisp, with the mileage shown believed to be accurate. There's a non-stock shifter knob with the Mustang logo on its face, and no console, which means this car was all about going fast. There's a fold-down back seat which gives access to a nicely finished trunk with a reproduction mat, 15-inch space-saver spare, jack assembly, and even an original inflator canister.
Documentation includes the Eminger paperwork, copies of the original title, ownership history back to 1986, a complete Marti Report, and the original window sticker, which shows only performance-enhancing options. Too cool, right?
If you're still reading this, I'm guessing you're the kind of guy who figures the car will be there tomorrow, maybe you'll call then. Unfortunately, this one simply won't last, not with that unusual color combination and a pretty darned nice restoration on it. Maybe there are cheaper Bosses out there, but none as rare, and this one stayed true to the original owner's intent, which was going fast on a budget. A severely cool car with a massive upside if the Boss 302 market keeps moving the way it has been recently. Don't miss this opportunity!
