The beneficiary of a recent frame-off restoration, this clean 1968 Chevelle Super Sport wears a slick coat of GM Bolero Red which has been expertly detailed with optional black Super Sport stripes. No expense was spared during the cars thorough cosmetic massage as every single nook and crevice was faithfully prepped and finished to better-than-new standards. Once the body was super smooth from front to back, a thick layer of basecoat/clearcoat paint was applied and laboriously buffed to the ripple-free finish you see here. Thanks the restorer's excellent attention to detail, and a fully sorted big block powertrain which runs like its brand new, this '68 Super Sport is one of the most solid Chevelles we've had in a long time!

For 1968 the Chevelle received an all-new distinctly sculpted body which featured tapered front fenders, a rounded beltline and a new long-hood/short-deck profile. At the front of the car, four clear headlights top an SS exclusive, black body-width grille which centers a prominent “SS 396” emblem between factory fresh stainless trim. At the bottom of that grille, a like-new chrome bumper is equipped with clear parking lights; and at the top of that grille, a showroom fresh “Chevelle” script occupies the driver's side of the cars header panel. Behind that header panel, an SS exclusive hood carries finned chrome louvers in front of pristine windows which are traced by well-maintained stainless trim and accented by great looking chrome drip rails. At the sides of the car, great looking stainless trim highlights gloss black rocker panels, “396” branded marker lights provide a subtle hint at the cars performance credentials, and new chrome door handles perfectly complement pristine chrome bow-tie mirrors. At the back of the car, clear tail lights flank a satin black rear valence which centers a second “SS 396” emblem over a like-new chrome bumper and mirror-like stainless exhaust tips.

Lift the twin-dome hood and you'll find this Chevelles original L35 396 cubic inch V8 which turns stout 10.25 to 1 compression into 325 horsepower and 410 lb./ft. of gravel hurling torque. As one of the meanest blocks Chevrolet has ever created, this cast iron power house utilizes oval-port closed chamber heads, a forged steel crankshaft, and hydraulic lifters to own almost any stoplight race it competes in. At the top of the motor, a black and chrome dual snorkel air cleaner feeds a reliable Durashine Edelbrock carburetor which is connected to polished stainless steel fuel lines. Below that carburetor, a sea of brilliant Chevy Orange covers the block from its intake manifold to its oil pan, and fresh chrome valve covers hang above fully restored cast iron exhaust manifolds. At the back of the engine, a billet HEI distributor sends fire through Hi-Energy suppression wires; and at the front of the engine, a reproduction Delco Energizer battery sits next to a correct radiator. Despite its aftermarket upgrades, many of the details on this 396 are faithful to its original factory appearance. You'll find correct reproduction GM hoses, correct hose clamps, correct decals, and a satin black engine bay which has been restored to a factory fresh appearance.

The theme of 'better-than-new' also extends underneath the car where you'll find solid satin black floors which are bolted to a fully restored, gloss black chassis. The big engine sends its power to a rock solid Muncie M21 4-speed transmission which delegates motivation to a 12-bolt Posi-traction rear end that is equipped with both easy driving 3.31 gears and an aesthetically pleasing silver cover. The cars heavy duty F41 suspension has been fully restored and features a factory correct double A-arm front and triangulated 4-link rear set up along with correct coil springs, a correct sway bar and factory optioned power steering. Braking is handled by factory optioned power discs up front and rebuilt power drums in the rear, and exhaust flows through a fresh mandrel bent true dual system which includes excellent sounding Flowmaster dual chamber mufflers and oval stainless tips. Naturally, all weathered bits were replaced during the restoration, and items such as a new stainless fuel tank, new fuel lines, and new brake lines and brake hoses ensure that this Chevelle is road worthy ready and can cruise for years to come without issue. Power flows to the pavement through new looking 15 inch rally wheels which wear cool SS center caps, stainless trim rings and fresh F70-15 Firestone Wide Oval Super Sport tires.

Open the solid doors on this '68 Chevy and you'll find a super clean black vinyl interior which appears to have been installed during the cars restoration. Centered in those new components is two restored bench seats which carry just the right amount of firmness and display no rips or tears at all. Above those seats, a tight black headliner shows none of the drying or fading that is typical of vintage cars; and below the seats, like-new black carpet frames a chrome Muncie shifter that's complete with a traditional white cue ball knob. In front of the driver, a correct Chevelle SS steering wheel props an excellent looking dash which houses fully rebuilt gauges beside a correct AM/FM radio and hangs an aftermarket Sun Pro temperature gauge just in front of the shifter. At the sides of the cabin, stainless trimmed door panels feature correct “SS 396” emblems which add a little visual pop. Behind the cabin, the cars fully restored trunk features a full size spare tire, a new mat and a correct lid decal. Not a detail was missed during this Chevelles restoration and everything, from the restored seat belts to the new dash trim, looks like a million bucks!
