Description

Every so often, we get a car that absolutely demands to be driven. It has nothing to do with the build quality or how many shows it's won – It's all about attitude. The most recent example is this 1993 Corvette convertible. It has all those show-friendly bullet points we like such as low mileage (27,373 actual!) and a detailed undercarriage but, at its supercharged 383 cubic inch heart, this car was built for burning down back roads. If you're in the market for a great looking car that will leave you grinning, take a minute to look over this 'Vette. With a price tag under $30k, you won't find more fun per dollar.

Of the paint options available on a 1993 Corvette, 43U Bright Aqua Metallic was certainly one of the most unique. Chevrolet built a grand total of 20,479 Corvettes for the 1993 model year and, of those, only 1,305 left the assembly plant wearing this color. This one shows well, free of clear coat delamination or other issues commonly associated with factory paint from the 1990s. Panels are straight and true while fitment is surprisingly even and consistent, serving as a reminder of just how far General Motors has come since the early days of fiberglass-bodied Corvettes.

Walking around this car, it's easy to appreciate how well the later C4 Corvettes have aged. Nearly a decade later, their sharp lines still represent the Corvette brand incredibly well. Subtle enhancements such as squared taillights and wraparound side markers, introduced in 1991, somehow managed to totally revise the Corvette's then eight year old look without changing its overall shape. From the outside, this one looks relatively untouched. The LT1 fender badges remain in place, leaving only the whine of the supercharger to indicate something more serious lives under the hood. Out back, a luggage rack adds a bit of classic styling to the otherwise streamlined body. Details such as weather-stripping look brand new as does the glass. The black top looks showroom fresh and functions as it should. We're guessing this car hasn't seen many miles with the top up.

Lift the factory 'clamshell' hood and you'll immediately know this LT1 means business. Producing over 500hp and 600 ft lbs of torque, this is one mean 'Vette. Out front, a Vortech V-1 supercharger force feeds air into the intake through a BBK throttle body. Underneath that intake lives a block that has been stroked to 383 cubic inches and stuffed with tons of go-fast goodies including JE ceramic coated pistons, Callies rods, a Comp roller cam and a Carroll gaseous intercooling system. The heads have been ported and polished and feature Manley oversized valves. A Vortech electronic ignition gets the engine started while allowing timing adjustments to be made from the cockpit. Breathing is handled by a set of long tube headers that exhale through a custom exhaust that utilizes a pair of Flowmaster mufflers. The exhaust note, coupled with the whine of the supercharger, makes a truly great noise that must be heard to be appreciated. To add some visual flair to the bay, a set of Gran Sport fuel rail covers with red lettering have been installed. There are also several polished pieces within the supercharger setup.

Behind that hot 383, a 4L60E 4-speed automatic with a 2000 rpm stall converter distributes power to the Hotchkiss rear housing 3.73 gears. With the power on tap, this 'Vette is plenty quick off the line but retains the highway manners of a family car with its tall rear gear. That power meets the road through a set of Falken Z rated tires wrapped around a set of staggered gunmetal gray C5 Z06 Corvette wheels that further modernize the car's look. Stopping is handled by a four-wheel disc setup with the calipers painted red to accent the Z06 center caps. The C4 suspension was engineered to compete on an international level, featuring light weight aluminum spindle uprights, A-arms, half shafts, and control arms. The rear, like all Corvettes since the Duntov-designed '63 model, is held in place by a trick independent rear suspension. As often as we see this suspension used in high-dollar customs, you can rest assured that these stock pieces function well at the highest level.

Inside, the car offers an experience totally centered around the driver. The black leather bucket seats offer generous amounts of support and show well for their age as does the black carpet underneath them. Between the seats is a full length console storage compartments and a plaque noting the stats of the stock LT1 that once lived under the hood. The dash wraps around the driver, putting controls for the air conditioning and the Delco Bose six-speaker stereo easily within reach. At the center, a digital speedometer is complimented by a large analog tachometer as well as oil pressure, temperature and battery gauges. A screen featuring the Corvette logo also serves as the information center should the something under the hood ever need attention.

We get a lot of calls from people who just want a fun car to enjoy on nice weekends. With a convertible top, a hot Gen II small block, and a price that will barely get you a decently optioned Accord, here's your Corvette! Don't miss the opportunity to park this sweet C4 convertible in your garage. Call now!
