Looking mean and sounding positively evil, this killer red and black Chevelle Super Sport is a customer ordered car which rolled off GM's Kansas City, Missouri assembly line during the third week of November, 1969 and began life at Downtown Chevrolet in Minneapolis, Minnesota. More recently, the car benefitted from a complete frame-off rotisserie restoration during which every aspect of its body was massaged to better-than-new condition and aligned to better-than-factory standards. Once the sculpted panels were as close to perfect as possible, a slick coat of correct GM code 75 Cranberry Red paint was applied along with correct GM code 19 Tuxedo Black SS stripes and then color sanded and buffed to the mirror-like shine you see here. The result is a spectacular Chevelle which draw stares, looks like a million bucks from every angle, and is exactly the kind of bad ass muscle car you never get tired of driving and showing off!

Cranberry Red seems to run neck and neck with Hugger Orange and Fathom Blue as the ultimate Chevrolet muscle car war paint; but this red Chevelle, with its fresh restoration and crisp detailing, certainly gets my vote as the best combination of trophy winning polish and back road attitude. At the front of the car, an SS exclusive black accented Chevy crossbar grille hangs a fresh and prominent “SS” emblem between original, stainless bucketed T3 headlights. Below that grille, a new front bumper is absent of any dimples and dings; and above that grille, an SS exclusive cowl induction hood carries stainless hood pins in front of great looking “Cowl Induction” badges. At the top of the car, untarnished stainless trim, hide-a-way windshield wipers and fresh chrome drip rails border like-new glass and a new vinyl top which comes courtesy of RK Motors Charlotte's first class upholstery technicians. And at the sides of the car subdued “SS396” badges complement dent-free stainless wheel well trim, good looking chrome door handles and a correct chrome driver's side mirror. At the back of the car, a showroom fresh chrome bumper holds like-new brake lights at the corners of a black resilient rear inlay with a prominent “SS” emblem. And a pristine “Chevelle by Chevrolet” emblem looks perfectly natural above correct, oval shaped stainless steel exhaust tips.

Pull the hood pins on this Chevelles mirror-like ZL2 cowl induction hood and you'll find an original 396 cubic inch L34 V8 which turns stout 10.25 to 1 compression into 350 horsepower and 415 lb./ft. of tire shredding torque! Displaying a correct 3969854 casting number, an October (J) 2nd (2) of 1969 (9) casting date, a correct 10K131753 partial VIN and a correct “CTX” suffix stamp, this legendary Chevrolet engine utilizes oval-port closed chamber heads, a forged steel crankshaft, and hydraulic lifters to mix stoplight civility with quarter mile attitude. At the top of the engine, a correctly decaled air cleaner feeds a reliable Quadrajet carburetor which is married to fresh stainless fuel lines. Below that carburetor, a sea of brilliant Chevy Orange paint covers the block from its intake manifold to its oil pan, and correct chrome valve covers hang above restored cast iron exhaust manifolds. At the back of the engine, a correct points distributor sends fire through eight AC Delco Premium plug wires; and at the front of the engine, a reproduction Delco Energizer battery sits next to a correct radiator and correct fan shroud. Aesthetically, this road ready Chevelles fresh exterior paint is perfectly complemented by a reinvigorated satin black engine bay that has been detailed to a very high level and would likely fair very well on the show circuit. New hoses with appropriate tower clamps snake around quick spinning V-belts and a fresh alternator; and all the little details like correct chalk marks, correct decals and correct tags are present and accounted for.

Underneath this top notch Chevelle, you'll find a factory fresh chassis and floorpans that, like the cars exterior panels and big block engine, have been restored to the absolute highest standards. Behind the engine, a correct Muncie M21 close ratio transmission, which wears a 3925660 casting number and a P9J24 date stamp, spins a correct 12 bolt Posi-Traction rear end with correct 3.31 gears. Holding that stellar powertrain off the ground is a rebuilt F41 special performance suspension which combines stiffer springs, better shocks, a larger front sway bar, a rear stabilizer bar, boxed lower rear control arms and upper rear cross braces, with correct front power disc and rear drum brakes that make the most of the cars stopping and handling prowess. And the big engine breathes through a sweet sounding mandrel bent true dual exhaust system that runs from correct cast iron manifolds to great sounding factory replacement mufflers and pristine stainless tips. Connecting this awesome Chevelle to the pavement is four fresh Firestone Wide Oval F70-14 tires which are mounted around correct 14 inch Super Sport rally wheels, pristine stainless trim rings and authentic SS center caps. And everything from the fresh stainless fuel tank and new stainless fuel lines to the correct metal rear end tag is properly restored and ready to hit the road!

Open this Chevelles solid red doors and you'll find a correct GM code 755 black coated fabric interior which appears to be a product of the recent restoration. All the cars worn out cockpit panels have been completely replaced with new vinyl, and the solid floors have been covered with new black carpet that is protected by black and red “Chevelle” stitched floor mats. The new black seats provide an excellent contrast against the red exterior paint and, along with new door panels feature show worthy stainless trim and factory fresh chrome handles. Overhead, a tight-fitting black headliner stretches from the cars A-pillars to a single speaker package tray, and between the seats, a pristine black console props a traditional chrome Muncie shifter inside of excellent satin finish trim. At the front of the car, a straight and crack-free dash hangs a new black instrument panel with crystal clear gauges above a factory correct AM pushbutton radio and chrome trimmed vents for the cars heater/defroster. In front of the driver, an excellent looking reproduction GM rally wheel centers a red, white and blue Chevrolet horn button within a black vinyl rim. And behind the cockpit, a fully restored trunk features correct spatter paint, a new houndstooth mat and a correct jack and spare tire combination.

Documentation included with the sale of this awesome SS 396 consists of one of the cars original build sheets and its original window sticker.

Fully documented, fresh out of a first rate restoration and still carrying its numbers matching big block V8, this Chevelle It looks just as good as any LS6 car, has the same killer street credentials and isn't nearly as moody. Why pay twice the price for a Chevrolet muscle car that you have to sit behind velvet ropes and haul in a padlocked trailer when you can buy this car and enjoy it for many years to come? If you actually want to drive and enjoy your Chevelle, this is the one to get!
