Description

In a world full of pristine, numbers matching collector pieces, it's always refreshing to find a well done muscle car that was built to be enjoyed. And with its big horsepower, big torque big block V8, a tough 4-speed transmission, and a cackling exhaust note, this fully-sorted '68 Chevelle SS was made to tear up the open road! What's better is, with its professional frame up restoration, smooth Matador red paint and comfortable black interior, you can bet on tons of fans and years of smiles. And what's EVEN better is, at our asking price, you can have more fun than someone who buys an investment grade car for literally half the money. So what are you waiting for? The summer car show season is just around the corner!

Built at GM's Atlanta, Georgia manufacturing facility in December of 1967, this awesome 1968 Chevelle wears a straight and solid restored body under a bright coat of Matador Red paint and Ermine White stripes. During a professional frame up restoration, the cars panels were completely massaged, meticulously block sanded, and expertly detailed to provide a great looking body which displays better than factory panel alignment. Once that body was fully prepped, a nice coat of Matador urethane was applied under a tough clearcoat shell and topped with both black rocker panels and an Ermine White Super Sport stripe. Presently, this Chevelle carries a super clean finish on top of a professional restoration which makes it much nicer than any mass produced original car from the 1960s.

At the front of the car, four clear headlights flank a traditional black body-width grille which centers a prominent “SS 396” emblem between straight bars that look as good as the day they left the factory. At the bottom of that grille, a fresh chrome bumper is equipped with clear parking lights, and at the top of that grille, a showroom fresh “Chevelle” script occupies the driver's side of the cars header panel. Behind that “Chevelle” emblem, well-maintained stainless trim and new chrome drip rails trace what appears to be factory original glass, while good looking stainless windshield wipers and fresh chrome hood louvers give the car a nice, finished look. Below that glass, dent free rocker trim and stainless wheel well trim perfectly complement reproduction chrome bowtie mirrors; and on the fenders, “396” branded marker lights disguise the big 454s brash personality. At the back of the car, clear tail lights hang over a new body-width chrome bumper which features integrated reverse lights; and a second “SS 396” emblem is centered perfectly on a traditional gloss black rear valence.

Glance under this Chevelles bright red hood and you'll find what appears to be an accurately restored and highly detailed L35 396. Linger a little longer and you'll begin to unravel the cars biggest secret; you're actually looking at a modern 454 cubic inch big block V8 which provides more grunt and better acceleration for a fraction of the cost! At the top of the engine, a chrome air cleaner, which is complete with a “396 Turbo - Jet” decal and a bowtie wing nut, feeds air into an Endurashine Edelbrock carburetor. That air/fuel mixture then travels into an Edelbrock aluminum intake which sits between cast iron factory heads that are fitted with correct chrome valve covers and a correct Tonawanda build decal. The big engines fires are lit by an aftermarket HEI distributor which sends spark through Maxx Performance plug wires. Cooling is provided by a Northern aluminum radiator which circulates water through fresh hoses and a chrome thermostat housing. And exhaust is handled by a pair of free breathing long tube headers which flow into a great sounding true dual exhaust system. All the engines ancillary components such as the new brake booster and master cylinder, modern alternator fresh V-belt, correct fan and reproduction Delco Energizer battery are fully sorted and ready to go. And the big cast iron block is covered in a traditional coat of Chevy Orange paint which contrasts perfectly to the car's satin black engine bay.

What good would a stout big block be without a great chassis and suspension to back it up? Behind the stalwart 454, a tough Muncie M20 4-speed transmission sends power to a tried and true GM 10 bolt Posi-traction rear end which is equipped with both street friendly 3.08 gears and a chrome differential cover. That strip-ready drivetrain is held in by a correctly rebuilt suspension which features fresh KYB shocks and a correct power brakes and manual steering combination which provides that raw, vintage street racer feel. In the middle of the car, a mandrel bent, reproduction exhaust system runs from the engines long tube headers to factory replacement mufflers and subtle, rear mounted turn downs; and fresh fuel lines run between the reliable Edelbrock carburetor and a leak-free stainless fuel tank. The bottom of this Chevelle is just as clean as its exterior panels and engine compartment. The frame appears to have been repainted sometime in the not too distant past, and the floors are 100% solid and devoid of any major rust or patches. To complete the look, traditional 15 inch Rally wheels were fully detailed in factory silver paint and spin a nice set of stainless trim rings and center caps inside of reliable Uniroyal 225/70 tires.

During its recent restoration, this Chevelle was equipped with a great looking black interior that is both comfortable and well designed. The vinyl bucket and bench seats are in excellent shape and show little to no signs of wear, and the supple dash pad exhibits no fading or warping. In front of the driver, you'll find clear, rebuilt gauges which include a factory speedometer and correct clock. In the middle of the dash, you'll find a Custom Autosound head unit which appears as if it could've came right out of the Chevrolet showroom. And below the dash, a correct, stainless trimmed console frames a chrome Hurst shifter that's complete with a white Hurst shift knob. In typical Chevelle fashion, the black vinyl door panels are a linear display of stainless trim, chrome handles and good looking emblems. And at the top of the car, a tight, fade-free headliner frames a fully functional dome light. Connecting the driver to the road is a retro-fitted GM rally wheel features a thick plastic rim, spotless satin spokes and a bright, colorful horn button. And behind the cockpit, the cars fully restored trunk props a correct mat under a full size spare tire.

With its hot big block motor, great looking paint job and competent and comfortable interior, this 1968 Chevelle is the perfect car for any enthusiast who wants some awesome Detroit steel to show off at weekend cruise nights. If you're in the market for some cool American muscle that's just as fun as a factory correct car for about half the price, this '68 Chevelle is your ticket!
